We faced a heatwave, but we still kept going: Barebox bootloader release, MNT Quasar 6490 launch, Pocket Reform mainboard 2.0 in production are just three examples of our accomplishments this month.
Little by little, the remaining parts for our very first Reform Next batch have been arriving. For example these 100 mainboards that are savely enclosed in anti-static foam pads:
Featured many times throughout our news articles with the latest mention in our May 2026 update, the Barebox bootloader is now available for MNT Pocket Reform:
If you'd like to run OpenBSD on your machine, find a README instruction guide on our repo.
Since this project has come to a close, we'd like to thank Daniel once more for his amazing (and relentless) work. We'll definitely hire him again for future projects and we absolutely recommend you to work with him. If you're looking for a reliable, communicative, and experienced software developer with expertise in web applications, embedded systems, and linux drivers make sure to contact him.
To get our MNT Station prelaunch on Crowd Supply to launch, Lucie has been looking into integrating two USB-C ports that make it possible to connect more external displays (via USB-C to DisplayPort Alt Mode). This proved to be a tricky thing as there wasn't a lot of space left, but Lucie found a solution:
In the image above shows the USB-C ports being located on the left and right in a vertical position. This is made possible because of a custom-designed adapter board that is placed on top of the port opening. Usable with our MNT RCORE RK3588 processor module and also adaptable to Classic Reform.
The Pocket Reform Mainboard 2.0 is now in production: Lucie had to make some last-minute changes to the design because a crucial chip became unavailable. More significantly, USB-C to Displayport Alt Mode posed some challenges to make it work. Lucie spent days debugging—and succeeded!
The USB-C to DisplayPort Alt Mode feature is especially useful if you (intend to) connect Pocket Reform with multiple screens. For more technical details read Lucie's "USB-C DisplayPort Alt-Mode on MNT Pocket Reform quest update" on Mastodon.
We ordered a test batch of 20 and if they prove to be flawless, we'll produce a larger batch to fulfill your orders directly after testing. Production and shipment takes around 7-10 days.
We've been offering the Pocket Reform Keyboard PCB 2.0 on our shop for a while now and are currently testing a (lower) case design made by Ana:
We think it's pretty cool and have ordered some case samples for final testing.

Something exciting: We got a brand-new processor module for you—the MNT Quasar 6490 for Pocket Reform.
It was in development for many months, mostly due to more intricate features such as power efficiency and sleep/wake (suspend to RAM/resume), the latter of which Lucie and Casey from Linaro have been successful in implementing.
This module doesn't support HDMI (unfortunately), but if you combine it with the previously mentioned Pocket Reform Mainboard 2.0, you can connect an external screen via the new aforementioned USB-C to DisplayPort Alt Mode function. Great choice for modern setups and frequent use with external displays.
Quasar with QCS6490 dials up CPU and graphics speed while prolonging your battery runtime and letting Pocket Reform run less hot—thanks to the chip's 6nm process and advanced power management features.
More features and specs:
Note: This module will also be compatible with MNT Reform and MNT Reform Next, but some extras enabling their full use are still in development. For MNT Reform, this means a custom heatsink, and for both MNT Reform and MNT Reform Next, adapters for either external HDMI or DisplayPort. We'll update the product text and the buying options as soon as these add-ons are done. If you want to stay in the loop, please check our next news updates and our Fediverse account.
Note 2: The first batch of MNT Quasar 6490 will be produced as soon as 25 units are sold. We are currently at 20, so only 5 to go! The lead time for these is around 5-6 months.
Last but not least, a thank you to NLnet/NGI0 Core for their donation on the development of this open hardware module, and Linaro for working with us on optimizing the Linux kernel and u-boot for it.
Fun things we've discovered using MNT devices.
How many MNT computers are in this picture?
sleeplessval made an amazing contribution by porting QMK (Quantum Mechanical Keyboard open source firmware) to MNT Pocket Reform. If you're into customizing your keyboard in terms of, for example, key layout and RGB backlight make sure to check out sleeplessval's post on our MNT Community forum. It contains information on the supported features, advantages, disadvantages, contribution options, and instructions on how to install. We're very excited about it and we welcome you to let us know how you like it. Write a comment on the post or reply to Lucie's Mastodon thread.
We got featured on hackster.io by Gareth Halfacree, who wrote a great article on MNT titled "MNT Research Hits Back at AI Bubble Price Hikes, Parts Shortages with a Raspberry Pi CM5 Adapter." You can read it here.
June is over, July is coming. Thanks for reading our news updates and see you on here in one month or (nearly) daily on the Fediverse!
