MNT July 2026 Update

This month's topics: Reform Next shipment update, new firmware for Pocket Reform, MNT Quasar's first batch, and Pocket Reform keyboard going solo.

MNT Developments and Updates

MNT Reform Next Status Update

We've come pretty far in our production: trackpads have arrived and we're finally satisified with their quality.

What's left are custom flex cables as well as screws (which we have ordered), and the case parts (which should have arrived weeks ago, but will hopefully ship this week). Lucie will also polish the system controller firmware before we ship, which mostly needs battery gauge improvement. Anri and Lucie are also preparing the operator handbook.

We now aim for the first small batch to be shipped at the end of August or the beginning of September.

Pocket Reform Firmware Update

This was a longer grind for Lucie: A bigger update on the system controller and keyboard firmware of the MNT Pocket Reform. They wrote a new driver for the SC as well as fixes for the display panel driver.

We still have to test the new firmware on multiple devices, but you can already take a look at the repo:

This also builds on the work Casey has been doing as part of our collaboration with Linaro on MNT Quasar. It includes the implementation of the initial GPIO provider support for mnt-sc, and hard resetting the panel via this mechanism.

MNT Quasar 6490 Shipment Update

Good news! Thanks to you—the customers who ordered the MNT Quasar 6490 processor module (individually or as part of MNT Pocket Reform)—we passed the 25 preorders threshold! This means, we could put in our order with Atlantik/Thundercomm for the QCS6490+RAM/UFS component. If everything goes according to plan, they'll be shipped to us this month. We ordered 50 to have a bit of stock, but it's running out quickly. The next batch will probably take months to arrive, so if you'd like to get this module as quickly as possible, we recommend ordering soon.

New Products

MNT Pocket Reform Standalone Keyboard

Pocket Reform Keyboard goes independent: If you wanted to use our ortholinear mechanical Pocket Reform keyboard with your desktop computer, tablet, or phone, now you can.

Ana made a keyboard case based on Pocket Reform and we decided on a different material this time: Nylon, HP Multi Jet Fusion. This material is not only lightweight but also dampens the echoing of the keystrokes while typing. The top plate is made from black anodized, bead blasted aluminum as usual.

Quick Facts: - RGB backlight - 15 mm optical trackball with 4 buttons - 64 Kailh Choc low-profile mechanical key switches - Red Pro (linear) - White (clicky) - Brown (tactile) - Dimensions: 20.5 cm x 13 cm x 2.5 cm - Weight: 293 g

MNT Pocket Reform Sleeve

Some of you have been asking for a more casual looking and cheaper sleeve. Luckily, we now can offer such a sleeve:

Asking for a Battery Boards Case Design

Since our MNT Station campaign on Crowd Supply is launching soon, we thought it would be great if we had a small minimalist case for the MNT Reform (Classic) battery boards.

The idea is to have a case where you can mount a pair of these, put in 8x 18650 LiFePO4 cells and have a slot where the two picolock cables can come out. MNT Station is a desktop/server case for the MNT Reform mainboard, and it has holes on the back where these cables can go in.
