lislegaardHey. New Pocket user here. I installed Neovim and now my Gnome Terminal won't open anymore. I figured I should have an image ready on microsd, but I think my IP is blocked. How do I get into https://mnt.re/system-image ?14:37
minutelislegaard: hi, let me check15:04
minutelislegaard: i can also help you fix that terminal issue instead if you want15:04
minutelislegaard: do you get "not found" or nothing on the page?15:04
minutei'm fixing the "not found" atm15:04
lislegaardthe app simply didnt open when i tried launching it in gnome15:07
minutelislegaard: sorry, i meant on mnt.re/system-image15:08
minutelislegaard: i just fixed that website15:08
minutelislegaard: btw do you really need the old "gnome-terminal" or do you mean "ptyxis" which is the modern gtk4 terminal?15:09
lislegaardah no worries. i got ngix and not found and it went to a different url with /attributes something-something in the url bar15:09
lislegaardi will try to explain15:09
minutelislegaard: ok, try to access mnt.re/system-image again, does it work? or does it not load then?15:10
minutejosch: mnt.re/system-image is fixed. it's unfortunate that the max expiry date for a private token that only needs "read_api" access on gitlab is 1 year ;/15:10
minuteso in july 2027 i'll have to do this chore again, unless we do a better thing with maybe generating a nice page in CI15:11
lislegaardbooted for the first time, set up user etc.15:11
lislegaarddid an update and then went to install neovim. got a blue screen saying if it should restart some processes or not. i said don't, waited til everything was done and then restarted the machine.15:11
lislegaardthen went to open terminal and it just didn't open.15:11
lislegaardyup the site works now!15:11
joschminute: i also found the forced expiry time of gitlab annoying but i'm surprised now that even you as the admin cannot create a token with unlimited validity o015:12
lislegaardso now i can just download "pocket-reform-system-rk3588.img.gz" unpack and flash that to a micro sd card with balenaetcher and boot from that?15:13
lislegaardok that worked. i will be looking in the manual again now :) thanks for fixing the site!15:20
minutelislegaard: yes, that should work. it would be great to understand what went wrong though15:22
minutelislegaard: do you remember how exactly you tried to start the terminal? what did you type/click in what order?15:22
minuteMNT June Update is out https://mntre.com/media/reform_md/2026-06-30-june-update.html15:23
lislegaardyes. i can try do document a bit more and report. just very eager when the kit finally worked :D .15:24
lislegaardbut yeah, terminal was working like normal, installed neovim, get the question of i wanted to reboot services, clicked no, restarted the computer. then clicking the teminal icon in gnome or alt f2 + gnome-terminal did not work15:24
lislegaardoh there was something else, i forgot. here is an image: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7ezijqlpo3nj7ebvpupyi/8a5644d9-1a1e-41e3-8ed3-74850358669f.jpg?rlkey=173766lu4usd8xfweu19l1xk2&st=gyezs279&dl=015:27

joschlislegaard: you know how to read the bug reports to find out whether one of them is bad enough such that you don't want to upgrade to the version?15:54
lislegaardnot really15:54
joschlislegaard: there is a seven-digit number after the hash at the beginning of each line. That's the bug number. You open the url https://bugs.debian.org/XXXXXXX where XXXXXXX is the bug number, for example https://bugs.debian.org/112501715:57
lislegaardaha!15:57
lislegaardbtw. i think what i did now was to go into the TTY, upgrade my packages, fix locales and now everything seems to work including the terminal15:59

joschminute: that's a crazy amount of news (as usual) you have there for july! What surprised me to read about was the MNT Station update. I must really be missing something but how do you connect two more USB-C ports to rk3588? I thought that the two free fpc connectors on the rcore boards were for hdmi, pci-e and usb 2.0? (the latter two used by the headphone/switch board in the pocket reform)18:24

minutejosch: those ports are meant for displayport20:51
minutejosch: so we have one displayport on the "hdmi" FPC, and another on the motherboard eDP pins (through dsi->edp converter)20:52
minutejosch: and we have 2x internal USB 2.0 that are "free" so those can be bundled into those usb-c ports as well20:52
minutejosch: there won't be any usb3 on those usb-cs20:52
