XD Good that I'm already swimming in power after upgrading from A311D to RK3588. I've been using it since September 7 and created a list of upsides and downsides and on the list of RK3588 downsides I collected is only that it gets much hotter, has less battery and no bluetooth 05:10

cararemixedI had a reason to boot my fast mac (first time in months) and got reminded how fast these chips get. Rebuilding my entire userspace toolset in 80s fresh vs coffee brewing time on my other machines.11:37
cararemixedI don't like daily driving the machine and I am rarely doing non-incremental builds but it's the kind of power that new chip will get close to.11:38
cararemixed(This was an M3 Max so still a bit more than most mobiles can reach with a small power envelope)11:39
cararemixedSlow arm cores to newer arm cores feels like the jump from spinning rust to ssds.11:40
cararemixedRegardless, I want to get my coding environment working more smoothly on <512MB of ram total with slow cores so everything is always fast no matter where I work. MNT devices being the sweetspot for daily driving.11:42

cararemixedBrian54: It depends what kind of remapping you want to do. The stock firmware doesn't directly expose configurable layers though you can definitely edit the source).14:22
cararemixedBrian54: There are ports of firmwares like ZMK (https://github.com/joguSD/zmk-mntre-module/) which might get closer to what you want.14:22
cararemixedThe hardware is pretty sensible so if you're handy with the RP pico SDK you would likely find it easy to work with but these existing projects do all the mapping of the matrix for keys, LEDs and presumably display support in the ZMK case (not sure what they do since I haven't used it).14:24
Brian54cararemixed: Thank you! I feel like I stumbled on the ZMK port, but thought I had read something about USB instability? ZMK Studio is certainly seems appealing. My goal is to simply rearrange a few modifier keys and be done with it. I wanted to stick with the stock firmware if possible, but I'm willing to go the ZMK route if necessary. Do you14:30
Brian54happen to know whether or not anyone maintains a mirror of the original reform2-keyboard4-fw source outside of source.mnt.re?14:30
cararemixedBrian54: I can try and put one up, sure. You might have gotten snagged in the bot block.14:35
cararemixedI am on an unusual machine this week for reasons so all my repos are not at hand but I might be able to get what you need.14:35
cararemixedUploading a mirror ... just a little slow over cellular. Will link when it's done.14:40
cararemixedI will probably take it down in a day or two so be sure to keep it somewhere and move the remote's url to the official one if you want to pull updates.14:41
cararemixedYour IP block might age out (but if not you can ask here again, folks at MNT are busy so I try not to ping them unless I need to).14:41

minuteloon: sorry, a mix-up then!16:25
minuteloon: haha indeed, i meant lool16:26
minute1 character difference in nickname16:26
loolminute: I’m guessing you have an Android boot loader, you could just boot linux from ABL? I haven’t worked with pakala myself (sm8750-mtp), but… it’s actually supported in qcom-deb-images, so perhaps it will just work for you :)16:29
minutelool: ohh i'm gonna check out qcom-deb-images. i managed to mess up abl somehow16:30
loolminute: this is the Pakala support qcom-deb-images has: https://github.com/qualcomm-linux/qcom-deb-images/blob/main/debos-recipes/qualcomm-linux-debian-flash.yaml#L20916:30
minutelool: ah nice, i wasn't able to google that, thanks!16:30
loolIt’s possible that this is super niche and not quite compatible with your board, or perhaps you’re lucky and the boot binaries also cover your exact silicon / board16:30
loolDon’t flash the wrong CDT though :) ideally don’t flash the CDT at all16:31
minutelool: not sure what the CDT is?16:32
minutei unzipped pakala_bootbinaries_00043.zip and i would now flash partition_ext.xml16:32
minutelool: ah i see, cdt is an extra download16:34
loolSo roughly the boot on Qualcomm is PBL (ROM), XBL (early bootloader you can’t change; one of the first things it reads is the CDT as to know which board its on, and perhaps some DDR setup; you want the right boot binaries for your line of silicon (a download of binaries including XBL and other bits), and then given the right CDT it should come up; there’s a long list of boot firmware partitions for different functions, we don’t really need to get 16:36
loolinto that. I don’t know if your CDT is available for download from somewhere, and which exact one you need, that’s why I’d recommend not flashing it16:36
loolTBH because I really don’t know your board, I’m worried that you might be trying something unsupported and brick your board :/16:37
minutelool: ok sure, not gonna flash cdt. i guess the board from your POV is thundercomm c875016:38
loolIf you have a way to boot into emergency download mode (USB flashing mode), and some reference image you can go back to, you should be safe16:38
minuteand yes EDL is the only way i can flash stuff anyway16:38
minutei finally managed to download thundercomm's default flatbuild package for "LE" so i'm probably gonna flash that first16:39
minuteto get back to a hopefully working state16:39
loolI did a quick check, and while it’s indeed the same silicon family, I couldn’t confirm that these public boot binaries for our reference hardware would work on your board, so best to get them from Thundercomm instead16:41
minutealright16:44
minutethanks16:44
