+ paperManu (~paperManu@modemcable065.144-200-24.mc.videotron.ca)14:55

frickleroh, nice, do you have any notes about it? I guess the boot setup is the most interesting part?14:58
gordon1frickler: not really, i mean i didn't record my notes anywhere, i just re-used the boot partition on emmc to have my kernel there and did FDE on NVME, you can easily modify /boot/exlinux/extlinux.conf to your heart's desire and u-boot is capable of interpreting it, just make sure that if you break something you would need usb console to ask u-boot to boot something else, in case of classic it15:01
gordon1just means plugging charging usb-c to some other machine and using picocom, not sure how it works on pocket but should be somehow same?15:01
gordon1oh wait, does pocket support panel/keyboard in u-boot so you don't need serial?15:01
gordon1if that's so - it should simplify things15:03
kfxnewer u-boot will load extlinux.conf from nvme as well; this greatly simplifies installing other distros on nvme15:04
+ cararemixed (~cara@2a03:6000:6f73:639::178)15:05

orvaI started running gentoo at the start of the year for couple reasons: I wanted to see how painful life is when building everything from sources in modern desktop environment, wanted to test system without systemd and native support for arm (in case I manage to spend money on some mnt hardware in the future)15:43
orvaSo far I have liked it a lot15:43
orvaOne machine runs source-only packages (well, firefox and kernel are binary versions) and one machine runs "fully" from binary packages15:44
orvaFully as there is few things that I have tweaked, so those need building from source15:45
