^alexminute, in re: unblocking, i think we saw someone mention that you can set expiry times on ipset members01:27
joschwill codebuff respect a robots.txt?01:27
minuteLNSY: ok. i would recommend to only use standard browsers and git, wget, curl etc with source.mnt.re01:27
minute^alex: yes, i remembered that now, but now it's in my todo to actually implement that during the work week01:27
minutei also need to post some kind of disclaimer/information about this, to give people a hint of how to not get blocked, but the more specific i'm about this, the higher the chance will be of malicious actors figuring out how i block them01:28
minuteusually any kind of AI tool will be blocked01:28
LNSYminute Will do. Yup, I understand01:29
^alexjosch, as far as we can tell, slop tools and their associated operators are as far from the concept of respecting boundaries as the east is from the west01:29
minuteyeah, but those obvious ones are not (yet) the issue, the problem is the ones that use residential proxies01:33
minutewith no identification whatsoever01:33
lidstahand it's become harder to properly fingerprint them01:33
^alexyeah01:33
lidstah*became, sorry01:33
lidstahno01:33
^alexwe have some viciously occult nginx rules01:33
lidstahit is becoming01:33
lidstahdamn01:33
lidstahja4 fingerprinting with haproxy alleviate some of the hassle, but it's a whack a mole problem01:35
^alexi think one of our more effective rules is: if ($http_referer = $scheme://$host$request_uri) { return 402; }01:35
^alexwhich does run the risk of some false-positives but catches a lot of bots01:36
lidstahhe, this one (well, it's haproxy equivalent) made our day here last week01:36
lidstahanother one: ai bots scraping our content (pictures, etc) storage by literally trying to guess sha2 hashes. no referers in this case.01:40
lidstahthat was two weeks ago01:40
^alexthe only thing that was more than annoying to us so far was some bot that got caught in a loop retrieving a page that was and always has been 40401:41
lidstahgenerally, this storage backend serves around 30K req/min, they literally bombarded it with 300K req/min01:41
lidstah*bombed, damn01:42

- simba (QUIT: Ping timeout: 260 seconds) (~simba@91.126.178.4)01:50
lidstahah damn, was closing shop, lemme check01:55
^alexlidstah, no rush!01:57
lidstahhttps://webdecoy.com/blog/ja4-fingerprinting-ai-scrapers-practical-guide/ - we used https://github.com/O-X-L/haproxy-ja4-fingerprint as a foundation. but we store in a stick-table (which we can synchronize between haproxy stick-table peers) and apply ACLs when said fingerprint crosses said treshold01:58
lidstahhad to upgrade haproxy to a non-debian-stable version, too (3.1+)02:00
^alexgotcha thx02:00
+ simba (~simba@91.126.178.4)02:02
lidstahnext week, gonna search fingerprints mapfiles reliable sources, too, and start building our own mapfiles. right now we only have persistence through our peers sticktables, with a 100M stick-table. performance impact is not awful but not negligible as you must compute the ja4 fingerprint on each http request.02:03

onepictminute: I do use sway, I looked a gnome, but I found it a little heavy and I was surprised to find a tiling manager suits me way better.  My partner uses a different one and I've been resisting using one for years.  I can't use his, he doesn't use sway.  I managed to keep using sway.  Now I'm eyeing my other machine and wondering how I can get a similar setup on there.  08:58
onepictBut I've got a bunch of man pages to do as part of a project I'm working with and I'm finding sway so useful for that as I need so many windows.09:00

minutelidstah: that could be done with a cable14:13

chif you find a card that produces DP...14:22
minuteriabenko: is this for laptop or mnt station use?14:36
minuteriabenko: we actually had an hdmi to edp adapter module. it's part of the rcm4 bundle that's still in stock at cs/mouser.14:36
minuteit uses stdp2600 iirc14:37
minuteanother option is if you find something with DSI output, as the classic reform mainboard has a converter for that built in.14:38
minutereminds me that mxm experiments could be fun.14:39
riabenkominute: That's for a laptop. For desktop, an mPICe to HDMI adapter should be enough. Maybe I would need an extra hole in the chassis. I was looking at an SM750 mPCI to HDMI adapter. Other people suggested using an old DisplayLink USB 2.0 to HDMI adapter from DL-1x5 series, but that takes extra CPU cycles to compress the output with udl driver. I will look for that HDMI to eDP adapter, thank you.14:49
