rick_minute regardin the gitlab scraper stuff.. i don't like it either, but did you think about putting anubis in front of it?09:39

gordon1i think we just need new internet, abandon http completely10:48
gordon1you can't use it unless you use sanctioned browser nowdays anyway10:50
chminute: really not important, but if the mnt webshop could use stripe or something else over paypal that'd be nicer for the payment flow...10:54
rick_josch oof.. luckily its quite fast on my rk.. but yeah.. like i said i don't like it either11:00
rick_yeah.. we should just switch back to irc.. oh wait XD11:02
rick_but yeah a good way to get information without depending on a modern browser would be nice.. didn't try lynks in a long time tbf11:02
minutech: oh?11:07
chminute: like, creditcard with paypal asks to reenter all sorts of data and a mobile phone number and a billing address that doesnt show the company name, and its all a bit meh11:08
- rick_ (QUIT: Remote host closed the connection) (~m-x42ph2@m.n0id.space)11:26
joschgordon1: you are just using the wrong internet right now -- you are only supposed to use the five *real* websites, like facebook, youtube and instagram and whatnot then all problmes will go away!11:33
joschrick_: my a311d recently spent 30 (!) seconds to solve the proof-of-work riddle for bugs.debian.org11:34
gordon1i would rather stay on irc, thank you very much11:34
+ f_underscore (~f_undersc@189.113.242.84)11:35
joschhrm... wasn't there this browser which was kept intentionally simple, like only html, css and a little bit of javascript? i don't think i'm thinking about ladybird, that one aims to be feature-complete11:39
gordon1netsurf?11:42
- f_underscore (QUIT: Ping timeout: 273 seconds) (~f_undersc@189.113.242.84)11:42
gordon1i'm pretty sure with netsurf you can also only open three websites, the only three that are not behind cloudflare11:42
+ f_underscore (~f_undersc@189.113.242.84)11:42
gordon1stallman.org probably would work11:43
orvaThere is also surf, it even doesn't have the net in the name!11:44
orvaProbably signifies how much sites you can browse with it11:44
- f_underscore (QUIT: Ping timeout: 250 seconds) (~f_undersc@189.113.242.84)11:56
Esijosch: Dillo? is that the browser you are thinking of?11:59
joschOoooh dillo! Yeah, i haven't used that for a long time. I had a look again and it seems it's tied to X11, it's that old XD12:02
chalso wansnt maintained for a long time iirc12:03
joschsurf is just another webkit browser, so that's a *real* browser by my standards. It can even handle gitlab and isn't really made for my slow machine. Case in point:12:03
joschapparmor_parser: Unable to replace "/usr/bin/surf".  Out of memory12:03
joschstephano: I fixed up minute's latest patches and pushed a new branch to josch/linux called mnt-v7.1.10 with the latest status from reform-debian-packages12:07
minutech: ah i see @ paypal, thanks for the bad-ux hint12:08
orvajosch: Oh, didn't remember that surf was webkit one as well12:18
EsiDillo are active on the fediverse at least https://fosstodon.org/@dillo12:20
minutejosch: btw ever tried wpewebkit? iirc it was optimized for embedded chips12:24

orvaI think author kind of kept it "secret", waiting to be more ready. Or that was the feeling I got some mastodon posts while back12:50
orvaSo there hasn't been much talk about it, even though it looks really nice12:51
orvaI think source was published like few weeks ago?12:52
Esiis it usable yet?12:52
orvaHaven't tested it. None of my machines currently have gtk12:53

chorcevery now and then I'm getting mntsc: couldn't parse response in dmesg on my pocket, is it expected? my keyboard is more flakey than before, I'm suspecting cables, could those mntsc parsing errors be related to cable issues?13:22

minutechorc: yes, it is normal13:43
minutechorc: there are many retries so as long as there isn't like a fatal error, it worked. i just have this logging in there as a reminder to improve this13:44
minutechorc: SPI is very hard to sync up properly13:44
minutebiggest tech regret i have was listening to people who said to switch to SPI instead of UART for the system controller/lpc back in the day. a decision that caused me endless pain13:45
joschminute: thank you for the tip! I'm also looking for email clients (currently using notmuch+offlineimap+alot) but nothing has stuck yet (i receive lots of email...)13:45
Esitried compiling stamp on my main desktop but running into some error13:48
Esi"error: Namespace Adw does not contain a type called ShortcutsDialog"13:48
Esimeson setup tells me "Compiler for C supports arguments -Werror=parenthesis: NO " so maybe that's connected 🤔13:49

minuteaffirmative14:11
chorcminute: thank you, understood. But the general flakiness of the keyboard (sometimes it resets by watchdog, sometimes keys stuck, and the oled was frozen when I tried to reset the keyboard) - could that be because cables are getting worn somewhere?14:24
minutechorc: yes14:25
minutechorc: can you try reseating the cables on both ends?14:25
chorcminute: that's my plan for the weekend, atm kids hid all my screwdrivers, can't open it14:27
chorcalso in the past cleaning trackball area helped to reduce flakiness, although I don't have data - I'll try that as well14:28

stephanojosch: sounds good. i'll have a look later today when work slows down.17:01
stephanojosch: do you want to create a branch for 7.2.1 so I can send the MR with the patch fixes?17:02
- mark_ (QUIT: Ping timeout: 257 seconds) (~mjw@gnu.wildebeest.org)17:09
- paperManu (QUIT: Ping timeout: 256 seconds) (~paperManu@142.169.16.115)17:28
joschstephano: do you want commit access to josch/linux? Then you can create branches yourself. :)18:02
joschwithout commit access, i think the workflow would indeed be that i create the branch mnt-v7.2.1 which at that point is at tag v7.2.1 and then you create a MR against that branch18:03
joschminute: i'm able to reproduce the journalctl bug if i flash an old sysctl firmware and run the new kernel. But in contrast to other reports, the system never finishes booting. I now have the pocket reform sitting in the journalctl loop for 2.5 hours18:04

joschstephano: the timing is good because linux 7.2.2-1~exp1 just got uploaded to Debian expearimental, so i can test your branch easily18:08
minutejosch: ok that's super weird @ 2.5 hours18:28
minutejosch: good that you can repro though. need to come up with some solution strategies for this18:29
stephanojosch: oh, sure, commit access works18:31
joschstephano: awesome, invitation sent!18:33
joschwhile i was at it, i sent one out to minute as well18:33
joschif you accept, you are both repo "owners" now -- have fun! :)18:33
joschminute: i'll see if i get somewhere later when i have a connection via serial. I have no clue yet why journalctl is stalling on mnt-sc not being able to connect to the sysctl. hrm...18:34

Esifor those interested in that stamp app. It seems to pick up my gnome accounts, as in my imap email and my nextcloud contacts. no cal it seems. I installed this on my desktop through distrobox using arch guest (stamp is available in the AUR). So yeah, haven't tested this on my pocket. https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/hD2xrmLr/image.png19:28
Esilooks like it's sort of following a similar design idea to Geary19:28
Esiseems to be struggling with displaying my emails though. haha19:29
Esii hope this project will go further as I really like Geary but it's just a bit too limited. Want something like Geary but a bit more featurepacked and closer to evolution/thunderbird without going overboard19:31
+ spew (~spew@user/spew)19:32
loonGUI mail clients in linux are an overlooked category, I've seen. you mostly have thunderbird or evolution with claws being the only one that isn't ginormous19:33
loonor kmail, but still huge19:35
^alexwe wish there were more gui mail clients built around notmuch19:35
Esiwell to be honest, good desktop gui mail clients in general are starting to be quite rare given how many people just use webmail or android clients / gmail /etc19:35
Esiso yeah, nice to see something new popping up19:35
Esinow a days I use Geary but always have Thunderbird installed for more complex tasks19:38
Esi^alex: are there any gui clients for notmuch? 19:39
^alexwe use the emacs interface, so idk19:43
bremnerEsi: I haven't used it, but astroid is one gui client for notmuch19:48
loonI was just reminded that claws exists and I'm giving that another go19:48

I was following its development when it was still young and then got scared away by "A user you’ve blocked has previously contributed to this repository." but now that i look closely it's only six insignificant commits from the machine. I'll try it out again! At least it seems actively maintained in contrast to alot. XD21:16
