joschEsi: then you are using barebox. uboot cannot currently init the display itself. If you are on 20260808, try upgrading to 2026081900:12

Esibtw this feels slightly different than last time. now sometimes the whole screen renders but it's still glitchy in one way on the upper half and gltichy another way on the lower half01:13
Esiupgraded the firmware,  glitches feel more "stable" now as seen in first photo. (latter photo is I think before firmware upgrade)01:15
Esialso upgraded via apt as much as possible in case if there was something there that I missed01:15
Esisadly, I can't seem to get a non glitchy display at all now. I've tried turning it off and on several times, restarted, etc... Couple of days ago I could get a good screen occasionally especially after a restart but now it's just always like this.01:16
+ oliverD (~Thunderbi@user/oliverd)01:23
minuteEsi: ok so two things: 1. this is probably caused by barebox not being able to reset the display yet, so i recommend doing reform-flash-bootloader emmc 2. once the glitch shows up and you stay in that mode for a while, traces of it will persist for a few minutes (or longer, slowly going away) so it looks like in the first picture you just sent01:26
minuteEsi: with uboot restored i think you shouldn't encounter this glitch anymore01:26
- oliverD (QUIT: Client Quit) (~Thunderbi@user/oliverd)01:27
Esiok, gonna try that01:28
Esi"reform-flash-bootloader emmc 2", is this correct? or is the 2 a mistype?01:29

Esiok, I did "sudo eform-flash-bootloader emmc". Seems to have worked. Screen glitches are still there although they might be slightly less pronounced. hard to tell01:43
Esiwill get back to this tomorrow morning. thanks for the help <301:43

joschi can finally check whether hdmi works on my MNT machines \o/10:59
joschit supposedly also accepts video via usb-c dp but i cannot test yet -- i have to by the new mainboard for the pocket first :)11:00
joschi just tested it and it just works out-of-the-box including audio :)11:00

EsiNice11:18
Esibtw this little rubbery object was sitting on the batteries when I opened the mnt pocket underside for the first time. is this supposed to be somewhere in the Pocket or did smneone just accidentally leave it there while assembling?  https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/cd9LQpsV/1000064923.jpg11:20
EsiSeems like a cap/protector for a cable or something similar11:21

minuteEsi: strange @ that cap, probably accidental yes. at least it's not used in the pocket. looks like a cap for protecting an open wire11:40
minutejosch: yaaay the dawn of a new era @ hdmi, awesome!11:41
minutejosch: which model is it?11:41
Esihaha yeah i suspected it was accidental. a nice souvenir from MNT11:42
Esiok screen glitches are barely visible now unless I really look for them.11:43
rick_josch its still so strange to read that you never had an hdmi display before.. did you always work only with the small screen of the pocket, or do you have an different display?11:43
rick_josch don't get me wrong.. pockets screen is nice for traviling/events.. but on my desk i want to connect it to sth bigger XD11:43
joschminute: i got an azorpa G1 second hand from somebody off kleinanzeigen. It is a 15.4" portable monitor with 1920x1080 and 144Hz refresh rate. I needed a portable monitor because we live in a tiny flat and I don't have a "desk" so I need to be able to pack it up and store it somewhere when I don't use it. :D11:46
joschrick_: technically i have access to hdmi "displays" but that'd be the big projectors in the lecture hall :D11:47
minuteEsi: ok great that it is recovering11:47
joschSo yes, i'm using the small screen of the pocket.11:47
joschrick_: the thing is that without a desk I cannot have "on my desk" :D11:48
minuteEsi: greta confirms the cap is from molex antenna in their shipping state. i knew this too but couldn't put my finger on it11:48
minutejosch: ahh portable, cool!11:48
rick_josch ahh your answer to minute explains a lot.. pheww and always working with that ^^v respect11:49
EsiI don't mind the small screen of the pocket. Never connected it to anything larger. I did reduce the scaling a bit though11:49
minutei have to say i did do substantial coding on the pocket before :D it was always a wow experience to go back to a bigger computer later, but still11:49
joschrick_: not really, for actually doing "work" I need a big keyboard so i do that on the classic reform -- pocket is for when i'm out and about11:49
minuteEsi: yeah the scaling of 250% is a new bug11:50
minutewakest was looking into it a bit11:50
EsiMy hands are taking a while to get used to such a small keyboard though. Lot of mistyping11:50
minutemutter changed something about how they calculate the default scale and made it worse11:50
rick_josch ahh you also have a classic ^^11:50
EsiOh lol i just thought it was a peculiar UX choice. Haha11:50
minute(mutter = gnome compositor/wm)11:50
minuteand also the mnt reform logo is too huge in gdm11:50
rick_minute yeah i work on the pocket display on the go also.. but yeah same experince when i connect a bigger display again XD11:51
minutei want to replace it by just mnt logo11:51
joschrick_: not just one ;) https://reform.debian.net/Pics/all.jpg11:51
EsiYeah the logo in gdm obscures "wrong password" text11:51
minutejosch: such a cool family picture11:51
rick_thats also why i'm hyped for mb2.0. currently i can only drive one of my two displays :D11:52
joschthey are all doing things right now because i'm trying to get imx8m+ to work in the classic11:52
rick_josch ohh nice, i'm envious...11:52
EsiPocket says hi from a café at the University of Iceland https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/oOYgXR4G/1000065735.jpg11:53
joschEsi: oooh iceland, sweet! Still a bit of an effect on your display...11:53
rick_Esi woah nice :311:55

joschrick_: hahaha that's me every day in the RE20 XD11:57
rick_but i really need to put in some bigger batteries.. charged it with my powerbank a few times at froscon XD11:57
orvaEsi: Just a word of caution: after getting used to ortholinear keyboards it can be very difficult to use anything else11:57
rick_<311:57
joschrick_: do you have an LTE modem installed?11:57
rick_no, wifi hotspot from my phone.. works well enough11:58
rick_also i don11:58
rick_t need an extra data plan11:58
joschright, in my case i don't have a smartphone so the "data plan" is in my "smart phone" which is the pocket :)11:58
rick_hahah yeah i want to use or well use my pocket like that also.. but i sadly still need a phone for trheema/signal and some other android apps.. which sucks...12:00
rick_i actually play around a bit with postmarketOS and my phone XDD12:01
joschi read in the signal blog that signal is working on making the desktop app not require a smartphone anymore12:01
rick_i hate android an its eco system...12:01
joschwaydroid is working okay for some simple apps on my pocket12:01

- elb (QUIT: Server closed connection) (~elb@user/elb)12:11
+ elb (~elb@user/elb)12:11
joschMy use-case was to use mitmproxy to reverse-engineer some of these stupid apps which are actually just a few buttons for a REST api which i could as well run without android. Unfortunately, packaging the new mitmproxy for Debian requires first packaging tons of treesitter Rust crates and that is extremely challenging because of how Rust works... :/12:14
Esijosch: would something like distrobox or toolbx help with that?12:16
EsiI am using distrobox a lot on my Pocket for such messy installs12:16
Esialthough i have no idea what mitmproxy is12:16
joscha "messy install" is exactly what i want to avoid -- that's why i'm packaging things in Debian12:17
Esihaha good point12:17
joschthe problem with mitmproxy and rust is this https://github.com/mitmproxy/mitmproxy/issues/7901#issuecomment-340585694712:17
Esii dont have that skill so i just use distrobox to keep the mess away from my main system, haha12:17
