murphnjI've got a but of a problem with my RK upgrade.....02:02
murphnjThe connector on the wifi card seems different than the connector on the antenna.02:03

+ murphnj (~murphnj@user/murphnj)02:04
murphnjI can plug the new antenna into the old card, but the connector on the new (intel) wifi card seems like it is a much lower profile, and doesn't look like it will stay on.02:04
minutemurphnj: which system?02:13
murphnjMNT Pocket....02:16
murphnjI took a pic of the two connectors side by side.02:16
murphnjShould I post int he community?02:16
minutemurphnj: ok, so you need a different antenna. was no antenna included with the wifi upgrade from us?02:26

murphnjIt was through Crowdsupply, with a (reccommended Intel AX210 WiFi card) but I also got an identical antenna from plom with my replcement imx8mp card (I had bad video, and the timing turned out poorly, I got the replacement after the upgrade)  So I have 2 of the molex 219611 antenna.  (Is one required to use the bluetooth on the 02:44
murphnjcard as well?)02:44
minutemurphnj: ah ok. pocket reform version of the rk3588 upgrade included that antenna?02:49
- elektron (QUIT: Quit: brb) (~elektron@apoc.halo.nu)02:50
minutemurphnj: i guess you need a similar antenna with mhf4 connector instead of mhf1. i can send you mouser part numbers (for example) tomorrow if you ping me again here (now it's almost 3am)02:50
minutemurphnj: or if you open a ticket on support.mnt.re02:50
+ elektron (~elektron@apoc.halo.nu)02:50
murphnjSorry to bother you so late.  I'll put in a ticket.02:53
murphnjAlso having a video problem, but I'll drop that in the forums after I check it with another cable.02:53
murphnjSeems like the antenna mismatch would be on them, they suggested both the card, and the antenna.02:55
murphnjTicket submitted.  Sorry to keep you up.03:00

jfredI went down a link rabbit hole and just realized why I wasn't able to get a serial console on my rk3588 reform. I have the serial cable mentioned here as "not fast enough" haha https://sciops.net/information/technology/reform_school/hardware/15:52
kfxjfred: the absolute best reason to upgrade to motherboard 3.0 is being able to use a regular old usb-c cable for serial output without opening the machine!16:01
jfredYeah, I just can't justify it since I have both mb2.0 and 2.5 lying around and both work just fine XD16:02
jfredand I've got the Next preordered16:02
jfredit is also nice having a regular old DC barrel jack as input on the older models. can charge that from damn near anything16:03
kfxI spent like two hours trying to get a serial connection up with that cable before I realized what was going on16:03
kfxglad my website helped anyone, at least16:04
jfredjust ordered that other cable from pishop for the next time I need it, haha16:04
Svpi personally got the drill and added a thinkpad charging port to the side, works remarkably well and i am drowning in those power supplies16:56
kfxthinkpad chargers (not the square ones) (not the big round ones) work great with the older reform motherboards17:02
kfxfrom like the thinkpad 600e through x41 era17:02

joschSvp: i went the other route and i built one adapter from thinkpad to barrel jack and another from thinkpad to usb-c pd :)18:21
joschjfred: i feel you -- it's really nice to just plug in virtually anything with a plus and a minus and it charges :D Note though, that mainboard 3.0 has two pins which also accept DC input but they are by default not exposed via a barrel jack18:22
+ hlep (~hlep@user/hlep)19:03
minutemade a keyboard v4 firmware release https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform/-/releases/2026-04-2119:20
joschminute: maybe scripts like "update-reform-keyboard" should be shipped by reform-tools?19:24
SarioI just saw the Station announcement, it's cool watching yall keep coming up with new stuff19:30
Svpif there is one thing i would personally change about the classic reform is using a 16:10 screen... maybe at a lower resolution because i have to squint sometimes, and a certain very widespread init system who i shall not name can't set a font to be double sized and i have to use one that is big by default19:31
joschSvp: we are setting the font to a larger size on the pocket reform. I don't recall that systemd made this difficult in the past. You could try adding fbcon=font:TER16x32 to your kernel cmdline arguments.19:33
Svpmy issue is specifically with setting a font double size, which is completely unsupported on systemd's vconsole config19:35
Svpsometimes all one wants is some scrawl_w in their life...19:35
joschSvp: another thing we did in the past for pocket reform was to have in initramfs-tools/scripts/reform the following line: for c in 1 2 3 4 5 6 7; do setfont -C /dev/tty$c Uni2-TerminusBold32x16; done19:39
joschthat way, the font was bigger independent of the kernel cmdline args19:39
Svpyeah setfont always works but it shouldnt have to be the solution to that problem19:40

Svpoh right i forgot to ask earlier so i might as well get that over with now: do i still need those old no-nvme dtb workarounds for openbsd? because (while also forgetting to run set tty fb0) i can't get the install image to boot successfully19:47

kfxbin/kicad links to lots of Xorg stuff22:21
kfxI'll test it22:21
