henesyand this was only after updating to the 2025 firmware sets00:00
henesyor 2024? i forget, not at home either00:00
henesybut i updated all of them because i broke my debian unstable (well, the unstable broke itself, really)00:00
henesyand was reimaging anyways00:00
henesygood to know i'm not the only one00:00
henesyit always scares me that one day it just won't come up00:00

mjvhi, unless it's been updated in the last few days i noticed the system image for rk3588 here https://source.mnt.re/reform/pocket-reform/-/releases#known-good-mnt-pocket-reform-system-image-operating-system-for-microsd-card are missing some configs in the sway environment. eg it appears exec waybar is used and should be exec reform-waybar-icon-wedge to add the right icons to waybar, some of the menu colors are not themed, and i suspect the swaylock screen is14:06

gl0bhenesy: is it actually failing to boot, or is it just the display not initialising? i.e. can you still blindly enter your luks password (if using) and ssh into it?14:32
gl0bthat's what i get fairly frequently. i narrowed it down to some sort of modesetting race condition, but haven't managed to do proper debugging14:33

Svpslapped in raspi cm4 in rcm4, plugged in hdmi adapter, no video in internal, backlight on. brilliant. this is the opposite of when i had that issue where i got video but no backlight, cant seem to see where it could be going wrong, snooping the serial link on the hdmi adapter only yields me the firmware version and a DP_SINK text. hm...21:26

minuteSvp: for example, cable went out of the panel slightly?21:31
minuteSvp: also, feel free to show some closeup photos of the hdmi adapter installation21:31
minuteSvp: do you get serial output from the CM4 itself?21:32
Svpi'll pop open the display but i have my doubts... also the adapter is installed properly i believe, hdmi ribbon is snugly in on both sides, white dot matches the label and both rows are in well on the mb side21:33
Svpstill worth a shot, let's see how's the ribbon...21:33
Svpoh and yes i did put in the overlay and config.txt settings, didnt mention21:35
minuteSvp: do you get an image on the external HDMI ?21:36
Svpyeah, that's working a-ok21:37
minutealright21:37
Svpribbon seems fine on display side21:37
minutecan you see on the rpi OS if it detects the internal display as connected or not?21:37

minute(hotplugged)21:37
Svplet's see...21:37
Svpwait as in like, plugging the panel in with the os started or just if it reads EDID or whatever?21:38
minuteSvp: hdmi has a hotplug detect line. i'm wondering if the pi has the correct signal there, i.e. if it thinks that something is connected. and yes, edid would be the next important step to check21:39
+ mark_ (~mjw@gnu.wildebeest.org)21:39
minuteSvp: btw IIRC about the serial output of the hdmi adapter chip, it uses \r instead of \n for its output so depending on your terminal program it might quickly overwrite previous output lines21:40

elbso I've got a few days under my belt with pcie_aspm=off, and I think I also haven't had it stop at hte waiting for a particular UUID to come online to start cryptsetup22:21
Svpok that took me way too long to get set up. starting x11 does at least detect two monitors and it updates when i plug the hdmi ribbon out of the rcm422:23
+ boonet (~boonet@user/boonet)22:24
Svpenabling backlight with bl_power works but still no image even if i have xrandr enable and position the output. hm...22:27
Svpedid seems to be readable from /sys i believe. running that through edid-decode does result in some sensible-looking output22:31
henesyjosch: i have a few uart somewhere or other - i could try to verify, but not sure where to start22:35
henesygl0b: i have not verified if it's the display specifically or not - i don't have SSH on and i dont have luks on so i could turn on SSH and see if the box comes up that's a good point22:36
