minutegreat news: ailurux made the pocket dsi display work in barebox on rk3588.08:45
josch\o/08:47
joschminute: do you have a git branch to clone and build a blob from or is this still in POC land?08:52
joschah found it: https://source.mnt.re/reform/mnt-reform-barebox/-/tree/ailurux/panel-cleanup09:18

+ Ar|stote|is (~linx@149.210.3.83)09:41
amkwhatll barebox enable, is it sort of a uboot replacement?10:03
joschamk: yes, you use barebox instead of u-boot10:05
joschamk: and the motivation for barebox is, that many seem to find writing code for it easier, see the barebox README for a list of what should motivate one to work on barebox instead of u-boot10:05
+ johl (~johl@wikidata/Jens-Ohlig)10:29
minutejosch: we still didn't test booting the OS with barebox though i think, so feel free to experiment :D also i think you need display v2, do you have that? also, hdmi works as well, in parallel10:29
minutejosch: and we don't have a clean config nor dtb yet, the dtb is an unholy mix of reform2 and pocket.10:30
minute(last time i checked)10:30
minutealso we should rebase on upstream soon10:30

rick_nice, my usb-uart adapter works :3 just one question thou, when the pocket boots normally, i can't input my luks pw via the console. Is that normal or am i doing sth wrong?11:41
rick_when i type it in the poket via its own keyboard it boots and i can login via serieal without problems. it just seems strange to me, that i need a keyboard and a display on the mnt to boot it when i have serial instead11:43
joschrick_: the luks prompt will show up on the last tty device in the linux comdline arguments11:49
joschrick_: we had the problem that when ordering the tty options differently, the luks prompt would only show up on serial and not on the screen at all11:49
rick_ohhh i see, need to try that, thanks!11:50
rick_and i did remove gdm3 now, this finally feels more like my old setup and everything still works :311:50
rick_i just don't like gnome stuff ^^v11:51

gsora6.18 seemed to be doing some weird stuff for me, pcie devices often timeout 15:39
joschgsora: MNT Reform 2 with RCORE RK3588 Module?15:39
gsorayes15:39
gsoraknown issue?15:40
joschgsora: did you by any chance also update your u-boot?15:40
gsorahmm did an apt upgrade15:40
gsoranot sure if it auto-updated?15:40
joschokay, that does not upgrade u-boot15:40
gsorasomething's wrong with the latest uboot?15:41
joschgsora: the artifacts are already pulled and the version and hashes reverted to the version before that15:43
joschgsora: with rk3588 u-boot version 2016-01-11 the nvme sometimes is not seen by linux15:43
gsorafwiw, the mediatek wlan card enumerated but driver couldn't attach, while this intel one is more hit or miss15:43
joschand because nvme is also a pci device i asked whether you might've upgraded u-boot to the wrong version before it was pulled offline15:43
gsoraah I see15:44
joschthe other remaining 6.18 issues are for a311d users but i am also not able to replicate the problems on classic reform15:44
gsorai'll keep an eye out for any resemblance of pcie issues15:49
joschgsora: what is your u-boot version in any case?15:51
gsorahow can I check?15:51
joschreform-check15:52
josch:)15:52
joschor: cat /proc/device-tree/chosen/u-boot,version15:52
josch(but that's harder to remember)15:52
gsoraagreed haha15:54
gsora2024.10-g424c714eb247-dirty15:54
joschoh that is old15:54
gsorawhoops :^)15:54
joschbut should not matter for you15:55
joschit would be good if you find a reliable reproducer of your problem because then we can bisect the kernel15:55
joschminute: are you on 6.18 already? Did you experience issues yet?15:55
gsoratoo bad it's completely random :( 15:55
gsorathe pcie/mpcie adapter i'm using may also just be faulty15:56
gsorathough it has been working fine for months15:56
- jogu (QUIT: Ping timeout: 260 seconds) (~jogu@user/jogu)15:58
gsoratoday i'm unlucky, my ipod just randomly rebooted lol16:00
Svpbeen having an odd issue in which i cant seem to input any command during u-boot from the internal keyboard, on imx8mq, i tried updating both but hasnt changed. ...does the internal usb port matter for that orthey should all get init'd? everything is fine when booted, though...16:02

+ enwu (~enwu@user/enwu)16:32
joschgsora: i'm currently running 6.18 on rk3588 pocket reform without issues16:33
josch(and i also run the u-boot version reported broken by others without issues on the pocket)16:34
joschSvp: that might be a regression. This feature is rarely tested.16:35
- jogu (QUIT: Ping timeout: 250 seconds) (~jogu@user/jogu)16:46
minutejosch: btw i'm not sure i reviewed the 6.18 patchstack yet, maybe there are some pcie changes?16:46
minutejosch: i'm on 6.18.3 on mnt reform next and didn't experience pcie related problems, *but* i'm also actually not using the 2 nvmes in here16:47
minutejosch: (system on emmc)16:47
minute> Linux mntmnt 6.18.3-mnt-reform-arm64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 6.18.3-1+reform20260112T203739Z16:47
+ jogu (~jogu@user/jogu)16:47
joschminute: there shouldn't be large surprising changes because we didn't re-import the collabora patches but forward ported the 6.17 patches with minimal changes. Only a handful of patches had to be refreshed.16:51
minutejosch: ok interesting. 16:51
joschand the only pci related issues i was able to reproudce myself were with u-boot but not related to 6.18 :/16:52
joschmaybe again something very flaky? i'm sitting here hitting the reboot button on the rk3588 pocket reform in the hope that maybe one reboot will show pci-e errors on 6.18 :D16:54
minutemaybe random16:56
joschyeah but i hope not, would make it very frustrating to track down :(16:57
minutealright. we'll figure it out!16:57
minutetomorrow i'm flying back to berlin ^^16:57
joschoh nice!16:58
minutethen i can update all my stuff to the latest16:58
minutenow it's too risky because of bad internet + could lose my access altogether16:58
joschhehe i know the feeling -- that's why i'm happy to always have the pocket reform with me. Something breaks? Quick serial from pocket to classic or from classic to pocket and debug.17:01
rick_josch yeah i was quite happy today too, that i still got my old laptop. tried serial from there.. its always good to have a backup device if sth breaks ^^17:07
rick_btw i'm about to test your chroot script17:07
rick_currently flashing the sd-card17:07
rick_and i think i also keep that sd-card.. in case sth breaks XD like i had my usb-stick with an arch iso for my old laptop XDD17:08
gsoraminute: i posted this image when you were in the hospital, not sure if this is known behavior for the keyboard firmware but somehow mine ended up like this: https://files.catbox.moe/0p2duv.jpg17:16
minutegsora: oh i only know this from old fw that still has a memory leak17:21
minutegsora: which fw version is that?17:21
gsora9f65ca69 17:21
minutegsora: that's some kind of git version17:30
gsoraminute: yeah that's what I see in the system status view17:30
minutegsora: maybe try the official release from july first, and i will soon make a new release https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform/-/jobs/11713/artifacts/browse/reform2-keyboard4-fw/17:31
+ bkeys (~Thunderbi@66.110.201.50)17:32
gsoraupdated, thank you17:38
gsorasomehow I always end up falling behind on my reform updates lol17:40
minutei mean, updates shouldn't be mandatory :D17:41
minutebut there were some bugs like that one...17:42
minuteclassic reform is more and more stabilizing though17:42
gsorabesides the hdmi issues and this weird wifi pcie thing, classic has been rock solid17:43
gsorarust-analyzer makes the rk3588 not exactly happy, but it's okay :P17:43
minutehehe17:47
minuteweird @ pcie, for me it's not so unstable. i ~suspect~ signal quality issues, ever tried reseating again incl adapter?17:48
minuteesp. if pcie device is flaky17:48
gsorayeah yesterday i tried all the usual tricks, including leaving the board out for a while 17:48
minutehmmm17:48
gsorai suspect it's 6.18 related as i've never seen this before17:48
minuteis it the adapter we shipped or your own?17:49
gsoramy own, i provided both wifi card/adapter and nvme ssd17:49
minutei'm also using 6.18 with intel wifi card, but custom mnt adapter (in reform next) since 10 days straight and no issues17:49
minute6.18.3 though17:49
gsoraoh you built your own mpcie adapter? neat17:49
minuteno reform next doesn't have mpcie17:49
minutebut it has a m.2 carrier in the back under the keyboard for wifi17:50
minutethat is connected with custom flex to the rcore, like in pocket17:50
gsorathe weirdest thing i've seen so far on classic is one time the emmc didn't get recognized by uboot (!!)17:50
minute(actually in pocket it's not yet custom flex, but off the shelf flex + custom carrier merged with headset board)17:50
minutegsora: ah, rk3588/uboot glitch17:51
minutegsora: are you on 6.18.3 or newer?17:51
gsora6.18.5 17:51
minutemaybe something happened in between 6.18.3 and 6.18.517:52
minutei'll upgrade when back home and then lets see if i get issues or no17:52
gsorai was able to reproduce it once in 4 boots fwiw17:52
minutegsora: hmm! did you already pastebin your dmesg somewhere when it fails?17:53
gsorano but i should be able to grab it through journalctl, one sec17:53
+ vagrantc (~vagrant@2600:3c01:e000:21:7:77:0:20)17:55
gsoraminute: https://tangled.org/strings/did:plc:6ll5xi67lyuyovt6fiv4fnjo/3mcx57fl7e22217:55
gsora"Timeout waiting for hardware access (CSR_GP_CNTRL 0xffffffff)" scary17:55
minutemhmm17:56
minutei've never seen that error i think17:56
minuteah that's from iwlwifi17:57
gsorayeah17:57
gsoramediatek had a different message: "mt7921e 0004:41:00.0: driver own failed"17:58
gsorai wonder if maybe the mpcie adapter board i'm using is just bad quality and some change in the kernel triggered an unexpected behavior17:58
minuteactually now i remember that i have some iwlwifi issues since a while already @ home in the classic reform18:01
minutebut they were quite specific18:01
minutecard stopped traffic sometimes when copying a video over sshfs18:01
minutegsora: it is possible18:02
gsorahmm under load I've not had issues so far18:03
gsoradownload/uploads at 950mb/s, it saturates my fiber pipe 18:03
- spew (QUIT: Quit: nyaa~) (~spew@user/spew)18:04
minutehmm i wonder if i have custom iwlmvm power settings on this machine18:04
gsoraoh i've had so many bad experiences with iwlwifi and power saving18:04
gsorai just don't bother anymore18:05
minutedoesn't look like18:05
minutegsora: ah so do you use pcie_aspm=off?18:05
+ spew (~spew@user/spew)18:05
gsoranot on reform, iirc i used it on an old thinkpad18:06
minutegsora: could be worth a shot!18:07
gsorai'm working on a thing atm but i will try later today18:08
gsorawith both cards18:08
minutesure18:08
minutei'm also finding people using > iwlmvm.power_scheme=1 iwlwifi.power_save=0 18:08
minute(haven't confirmed that tho)18:08
