gsorahey there! i just ran routine updates on my system and now reform-desktop-{full, minimal} fail to finish dpkg configure, known issue?10:57
gsorafalse alarm, had testing kernel modules dirs under /lib/modules that made reform2_lpc build fail, hence the failing desktop package configuration :)11:00

joschkcxt: would you mind another reform-specific efi question? I have Fedora 42 booting on the pocket reform via efi: https://mister-muffin.de/p/8UH4.txt16:39
joschI know how to tell u-boot which dtb to load when i use a boot.scr or an extlinux.conf. How do I instruct u-boot which dtb to load with efi?16:39
joschAs far as I understand it, the efi stub includes grub and the kernel and i cannot really add my own dtb into it unless I rebuild the whole efi stub, correct? It is not as simple as dropping a file somewhere, right? And even if i could do that, what parameter would i change to tell u-boot "here is the directory with the dtbs"?16:40
joschNow curiously, /proc/device-tree/model contains the correct model name so i suppose that somehow the device tree we have baked into u-boot gets passed on to the kernel?16:44
joschIs this something specific to efi booting? Or in other words: if i boot with efi, do i no longer have to ship dtbs because i can rely on u-boot to provide it?16:45
joschIf the answer is yes, then the follow-up question would be: how do i override the dtb from u-boot because this will break on every other kernel release as the device trees are kernel version specific.16:45
joschThank you in advance for your time!16:45
minuteafaik there's UKI17:13
minutewhich is a bundle of kernel+initramfs+dtb wrapped in an efi executable17:14
minuteand another thing i know is that for qcom, there's a matching table of uboot board names to dtb files 17:15

f_You do have to ship the DTBs but you don't have to manually select one anymore17:51

johlI booted a system image from the microSD and I'm on the root shell of that system now18:25
johlhttps://community.mnt.re/t/boot-failure-a311d-restoring-connection-to-encrypted-nvme/2511/9 describes how to get on an encrypted disk. Is there any documentation on how to proceed when the disk is not encrypted?18:27

joschminute: i know how to create an efi stub, this is what one of the reform-system-image MRs does. But that fedora image ships dtbs (so i wonder how it selects from them) and then it looks like it inherits from u-boot and i have never seen that either and maybe we can exploit that behaviour?19:28
joschf_: okay, but where do i put the mapping from "name of device" to path?19:28
f_I think you can just drop your dts in the appropriate directory in /boot ?19:29
joschf_: Fedora has a directory but what name do i pick? How will it choose?19:30
joschjohl: i have a script which does the right thing for an encrypted root here: https://community.mnt.re/t/testers-wanted-for-new-tool-reform-rescue-shell-maybe-interesting-for-users-with-the-gdm-issue/415319:31
joschjohl: you could comment out the parts which handle unlocking or wait for me to adjust the script for your setup.19:31
joschif the latter, could you describe it for me?19:31
josch(dinner with family now so i'll be afk for a bit)19:32
joschf_: like, i cannot just name it foo.dtb and expect u-boot to magically find it19:33
f_oh right19:34
f_you can tell systemd-boot to use a specific DTB IIRC19:34
f_In the loader.conf19:35
johljosch: RK3588, no encryption.19:35
johljosch: Any way that I could get the script on the machine apart from typing it in?19:37

joschjohl: okay but is your / on emmc or on nvme? How many partitions do you have on emmc and nvme respectively?19:46

johlI think I remember that I didn't change any defaults during the first install, but I guess that still won't help19:49
