gordon1ACTION looks at RSSI graph of a daily usage13:24
gordon1reception in some parts of my apartments is definitely better, but i have a feeling that wifi throughput dropped a bit nonetheless13:26
gordon1can't say it is definitely better than the stock antenna, but if it is on the same level - i'll take it, at least now i have an option to get metal backplate13:27
gordon1ACTION ticks box "antenna design" in his checklist13:28

cararemixedI had to leave my Pocket at home today. I don't know if it's gotten worse but the USB wifi has become so unusable on some connections that I can't even run apt install/upgrade on half the networks I use. It just hangs on checking bug reports.20:32
cararemixedI've got the knew board on order but while I wait, does anyone know what things might help stability?20:33
+ jogu (~jogu@user/jogu)20:33
cararemixedIt's been close to useless on non-hotspot wifi since congress.20:33
cararemixed(no idea why my phone hotspot works better)20:34
cararemixed(still slow and I'd rather not burn through that data)20:34

minutecararemixed: ugh, i'm sorry to hear it. it's strange that it's gotten worse21:03
cararemixedYeah. No idea. I have other machines I can use instead for now.21:05
cararemixedI’ll pretend this is a reform tablet https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/hmuNwKRF/IMG_7192.JPG21:06
d_mcararemixed: have you noticed a difference in usb wifi performance between running battery power versus and running on usb-c power?21:09
cararemixedHmm. I have been plugged in most of the time. Maybe I'll try unplugged?21:10
d_manother thing to check is which wifi channels/frequencies are being used.21:10
cararemixedThe driver crashes semifrequently.21:10
d_msome 2.4 GHz channels are more prone to intereference.21:10
d_mso if you have the option to use a 5 GHz network that might help21:11
cararemixedd_m: Good point. My other devices seem fine but I guess this card could just be problematic.21:11
d_manyway, good luck! i hope you find a better work-around 21:11
cararemixedI haven't checked the specifics on the channels. It's just a crummy vodafone AP but even so, it will fail while my other devices work fine.21:12
minutecararemixed: aw21:25
minutecararemixed: btw i remember i had a weird thing once where the shield of that card got semi loose... i had to reattach it with solder. and the other thing that comes to mind is antennas. have you ever tried looking at wavemon and playing around with the pocket's location/orientation/hinge opened/closed/back opened closed? 21:27
minute(that's how i usually debugged wifi issues)21:27
minutewavemon can show a lot of stuff, signal/link quality in realtime with a graph and then you can also see which channel + bandwidth is negotiated21:28
joschcararemixed: i once also had a usb wifi adapter which got worse over time. Turns out that it just got warmer every time i used it until at some point it stopped working altogether. Now, whenever i plug it in, all i can use it for is to keep my coffee warm as the only thing it's doing is to convert electricity from my usb port into heat... (too hot to touch)21:40
cararemixedI'll do some experiments once I am home again. Thanks for the tips21:41
cararemixedjosch: Yeah. I have had an uptime >48hrs while dealing.21:42
joschoh look, imx8m+ https://mecha.so/comet21:56

f_sounds like that phone might overheat a lot22:14
