Zabaare you confident that there are no unintended solder bridges etc where you soldered the wires?00:02
joschZaba: i used my multimeter to check that what is supposed to be connected is connected and what is not is not00:03

gordon1josch: looking at the datasheet for quectel em-06e in a pinout table i see it has usb3.0 rx and tx diff pairs, maybe fact that it is not acceping config means it refuses to work with usb2.0-only?02:00

joschindeed but somehow i hoped that a simple usb modem would be fine with 400 MBit/s and would be able to gracefully downgrade...07:27
gordon1josch: there is quectel eg25-g in mini-pcie form with sim slot mounted on the mini-pcie card itself that works perfectly fine with soldered-on usb10:31
gordon1tested®10:31
gordon1(not with reform, but externally with mini-pcie slot-on-pcb)10:32
gordon1(and there is even half-open firmware for it https://github.com/the-modem-distro/pinephone_modem_sdk )10:37
minutejosch: cable signal integrity issues?10:46
minutejosch: that new board by realleif should help with that10:47
joschminute: i'm probably misunderstanding the board by realleif -- does the board contain a pci-e root hub? i thought that was required because there is no usb signal to which a simple hub could just be attached?11:07
+ chomwitt (~chomwitt@2a02:85f:9a42:1100:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)11:20
joschgordon1: interesting, thank you! I find the mini pci-e card and its back contains an indicator on the silk screen that a sim-card slot is supposed to go there but i cannot find one that actually has one soldered. On the other hand, there seem to be variants of the same modem with *only* usb and maybe that works better than trying to somehow get it to do pci11:30
joschuuuh the modem is also sold with a 5-pin jst connector instead of a usb plug!11:41

joschch: did you manage to let m.inute have a look at your pocket reform antennas? was there something you learned?11:51
chjosch: no there wasn't really time11:57
chi should also order the correct(tm) antennas for the modem11:57
joschthere are "correct" antennas?11:58
joschi mean, i have some off ebay which said "lte" but there were not many options with the right ipex connector size...11:59
joschand i get frequent disconnects when in the train or bus :/11:59
gordon1josch: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008646593330.html12:05
gordon1that's the one i got, but it looks like this is GB version12:05
joschgordon1: thank you! i now see that this one has a version with and without sim-card holder12:36
joschi was now looking at variant A5 of this one: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005005259198906.html12:36
chjosch: at least with correct connectors :)12:55
chnot those i thought were correct12:56
gordon1josch: that looks like the best option13:21
