joschcwebber: you should 100% adjust the colors of your pocket reform keyboard to match :D15:53
joschcwebber: with openrgb you could set this up such that you get effects spanning all three keyboards (you can tell it where each keyboard is located relative to each other)15:54
cwebberjosch: oh wow15:54
josch(but you might want to wait a tiny bit because support for the MNT keyboards only recently got merged by OpenRGB)15:56

cwebberso the problem I am having right now is that I am planning on using this as my sole computer for about a month16:22
cwebberbut guess what I didn't do... get a new backplate for the pocket!16:22
cwebberI have the rk3588, and the wifi drops out less than with the original SoC, but still drops out if I run gnome. things seem better with sway16:23
cwebberI thought I heard something about a low power mode for the rk3588 but I'm not sure where I read that16:23
cwebberoh maybe this was the daemon16:24

minutecwebber: hmmm didn't you have your pocket in for servicing quite a while ago... didn't we have the new backplate already? (i'm genuinely not sure)16:26
cwebbersame with user profiles16:26
cwebberoh, is it the new backplate? :)16:26
cwebberit might be16:26
cwebberit does have the copper down the middle16:26
cwebbermaybe I just need to get the molex16:26
minutecwebber: orrr wait didn't you have a custom one/16:26
chminute: .16:26
cwebberno I didn't have a custom one, that was on the bottom16:26
cwebberjfred made a custom one I put on the bottom16:26
minutecwebber: ah right. so the copper is always in the middle, but the question is, is it black inside next to the copper or bare fiberglass16:27
cwebberlet me see16:27
minutecwebber: if black -> old bad version16:27
minutecwebber: if bare fr4 -> good16:27

cwebberI could order the new backplate but I am not sure where to ship it to16:31
joschthe copper is very close to the surface, no? Maybe it could be sanded down until the fixed version arrives?16:32
cwebberhard to guess whether I should ship it to the place I'll be for a month or the place I'll be at after. it says the ship time is 2-4 weeks16:33
cwebberjosch: hm, would that work?16:34
cwebberif that would work I suppose I could do that16:34
joschmaybe? you just have to get the sheet of copper away :D16:34
joschminute: would that work? ^16:34

cwebberminute: haha... no, unfortunately. if congress were at a differen time I'd be there, but visiting my family, and that's too big jump across the pond right after xmas16:36
minutejosch: cwebber: sanding should work, will just be quite a mess. maybe it's possible with sharp knife + peeling off, or delaminating somehow (not sure)16:36
cwebberinteresting16:36

joschminute: some things I'd like to "archive" for others are for example boot logs. You know that it happens regularly that people say "i have this in my dmesg, is my setup broken?" and i'd like to redirect them to a place which stores "known good output". I started dumping things in https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/wikis/u-boot but migrating resources like that to discourse would 19:01
joschquickly hit the character limit again (even after you raised it to 100000). 19:01
joschBut if you declare "this is our wiki now" i'll find a way to work around this somehow.19:02
joschAnd then there are the usual discourse disadvantages of course... when i scroll for example through posts in the official discourse wiki https://meta.discourse.org/c/documentation/10 then i get the usual "stuff unloads, screen goes blank for a few seconds, then maybe reloads" because discourse dynamically loads content in through javascript... :/19:04

jfredcwebber: FWIW that backplate I made was designed to go on the top and thus has a copper layer on the underside in the middle to act as a heatsink like the original did. It does not have a copper layer on the sides of the underside. It does have copper on top but only where the lettering is23:38
jfredat least... if I did what I meant to do in the second revision (which you have one of)23:39
jfredI don't recall offhand exactly what the pocket insides look like behind the bottom plate but I hope the exposed copper for the heatsink doesn't cause problems if you have it on that side ^^;23:51
