rick_Morning: there was a discussion here about a better alternative to dunst for notifications a few weeks ago. What was ne name again? I actually love dunst, but what i miss is a marker in the tray that i have missed/unread notifs open. I just kinda overlook the notifs from dunst ^^v09:35
MartiniMoerick_: There is mako, which is basically dunst, but wayland native, if I get it right. But what I am using with sway is https://github.com/ErikReider/SwayNotificationCenter bescause it gives you an icon in the tray that shows missed notifications in a nice notification center style :)09:45

joschi talked to the quectel modem via its serial line but those were experiments. If you want to use it simply to get internet, yes install modemmanager13:02

grimmwareI've found that my charger makes a noise when switching from charging to subsistence current13:34
grimmwareI've also discovered that whatever battery imbalance just gets worse and worse with every discharge13:34
+ paperManu (~paperManu@107.159.15.124)13:35
joschi also have a problem with my pocket and these issues coincide with the addition of the wifi port board and intel ax210. sway dies, i see the console and get a huge backtrace from the kernel indicating issues with wifi13:39
joschhere is the dmesg output from yesterday: https://paste.debian.net/hidden/bf2d1fda13:41
joschbut the same happened just now13:41
joschi'm going to disable wifi for now and see if it makes a difference13:42
grimmwareI'm going to take a look at the sysctl to see if the configuration of the charging circuit is implicated because I've seen these problems for a while requiring external rebalancing and someone on the forums suggested it was potentially a sysctl firmware update that caused it to start for them13:44
grimmwareso I've been checking the implementation against the datasheet in part for my own understanding13:44

minutech: the rk3588 module can make a bunch of coil whine/probably capacitor whine14:16
minutegrimmware: the more eyes on this code, the better14:17
minutereminds me we wanted to put the values from the max batter monitor/balancer's windows config tool in the firmware 14:17
minutes/batter/battery14:18
minutejosch: "bridge configuration invalid" sounds like pcie connection issue14:19
minutejosch: perhaps cable issue14:19
joschoh whoops, i'll have a look, thank you!14:19
minutejosch: i can still improve that cable a lot14:20
minutelike, make custom flex like for the next. right now it's just off the shelf fpc which doesn't have amazing SI14:20
minutejosch: btw there's a kernel config option we really want, to debug low level pcie link stuff14:21
joschif it should be active by default, just put it at the end of reform-debian-packages:linux/config14:21
minuteyep, i already did, i just wanted to share the info with you, digging up the correct link/MR part14:23
minutejosch: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/145/diffs?commit_id=6080f0e1ca19f471eb09a455f79565cc1a685b4214:24
minutejosch: the whole MR can't be merged because afaik the patches for eGPU support lower the NVMe speed, for example, still need to work on that14:25
minutejosch: i.e. i need to find out which of the patches can affect nvme performance and then make a kernel module option for turning them on, perhaps per-controller. then people who want to use eGPU can turn that on in their kernel commandline14:26
joschah okay, i saw the MR but indeed had not noticed that commit in the middle14:26
joschright, that sounds sensible14:26
minutejosch: with the patch enabled one can get a lot of debug information of the designware pcie controller, including the state of the link/link training14:26
minutejosch: and error counters14:27
minutejosch: i mean with CONFIG_PCIE_DW_DEBUGFS14:27
joschright, maybe you want to cherry pick that one to main immediately?14:27
josch(i'm currently battling picotool on s390x :D)14:28
minutejosch: yeah, i can't do it right now as i'm in a hurry but i'll do it later14:28
josch(and luckily with rk3588 i have a platform that can emulate it well enough such that the machine boots -- a311d is so slow that several services simply timeout during boot...)14:28
minutegrimmware: there's a windows tool for advanced configuration of MAX17320G20+, you might wanna check it out14:28
minutejosch: oh nice :D 14:29
joschminute: awesome, i also cannot do it right now because apparently train blocks ssh XD14:29

joschnice, dolphin emulates at around 90% to 100% on rk3588 :)22:25
minutejosch: if you set the gpu freq to 1 ghz and cpu governors to performance, maybe even 100% all the time!22:35
joschyeah, i read your post on community.mnt.re about the freq and governors and didn't try it out yet but wonder why it is like that? Should the frequency not automatically be scaled to meet the demand or is the governor just bad?22:36
josch(slightly related: the back of the display of my pocket reform is currently being cooled to 77°C by an 80 mm fan so that it compiles faster :D)22:37
minutejosch: the governor is bad22:40
minutejosch: i.e. the "simple_ondemand" one for the gpu22:40
joschi wonder if we want/need more convenience scripts to work around these things22:40
minutejosch: well, i just had all this struggle with getting the rk3588 not to brownout in pocket reform22:41
joschalso for the audio (remembering selfawaresoup's little script to set audio output)22:41
joschhehe yes but what about us classic users? :D22:41
minutejosch: the audio is a side effect of using sway i think22:41

joschhow do you then switch headphone/speaker in gnome?22:42

minutethese are the things that made me migrate from sway to gnome22:46
joschi've never seen that! o022:46
minuteoh ok22:46
minutejosch: it's when you click the triangle button next to the volume bar22:47
joschis this with vanilla system image? that's what i keep testing22:47
minuteyes of course22:47
joschokay, the triangle button22:47
joschi'll be clicking that tomorrow :)22:47
minuteyeah, now that you say it, they could've made that more obvious22:47
minutei also use evolution + the gnome calendar integration with my CalDAV server etc, quite nice22:48
minutealso with planify which _almost_ works well22:48
joschnice, i'll check these things out!22:49
joschfor sway, i maybe want more waybar buttons or something22:50
minutejosch: you could also use the existing pasystray -> set default sink, but that's a bit of a hassle of course22:57
