optimala couple days ago i mentioned a freezing keyboard problem on this channel, a little update on that:00:17
optimali reseated the processor board and replaced the thermal sticker and the issue went away00:18
optimalso it was either a contact issue or a thermal problem - either way it's fixed00:19
optimalbut now my charging board stopped charging so it doesn't matter anymore :P00:19
chhow does that manifest?00:20
optimalhow does what manifest00:20
optimaljosch: about your pocket reform's 1.8m tumble, i'd take off the bottom and check the little plastic spacer things that hold the batteries in place because for me it took one drop for those to break pretty much immediately00:23
optimaloh wait nvm you removed those00:24
optimalthey do make for good shock absorbers tho =)00:24

f_One question, can the reform connect to 2 displays at the same time?15:16
f_My current laptop has DP out and VGA out and I usually connect dp out to my samsung ultrawide monitor and VGA to a hp vga monitor I rescued from ewaste15:18
f_Though it can't do 3 displays so the internal one is off15:18
f_I wonder if such a setup also works with the reform15:19
f_(lack of vga port isn't really an issue, I can use a converter)15:19

d_mdoes anyone know which repo contains the file /etc/profile.d/reform-setup.sh ? i want to send a small patch17:15
d_m(basically, the setfont command isn't useful when run from a terminal emulator and gives an error about not finding a file descriptor for the terminal)17:16
d_mso i added a line to only run that when tty matches ^/dev/tty.*$17:17
chi wanted to say reform-tools, but its not there17:19
chcan you check what dpkg -S /etc/profile.d/reform-setup.sh says?17:19

d_maha! thanks17:20

d_moh hm. i wonder why i still have it.17:21

optimali'm not quite sure if my Pocket Reofmr charging board is broken - basically, at some point my Pocket Reform stopped charging, and flipping the standby switch a couple times and trying again didn't really fix the issue. the batteries were providing power but they would not charge. so, thinking that maybe there was a bug in the charging board firmware and it just needed a reset, i reconnected the batteries, after which it stopped 18:35
optimalproviding power to the motherboard completely, probably because the charging board needs to be powered with wall power before it turns on, but no power was getting to it from the USB-C port. so that's where i am18:35
optimali did the thing with the jumper to provide power to the motherboard directly from the USB-C PD port and bypass the charging board, and that worked, which means that the USB-C PD port and the power stuff on the motherboard works fine18:36
elbjosch: yes, I teach Computer Science at a state university19:21

choptimal: on ttyACM0 there is debug output from sysctl. can you capture that while plugging in your charger?23:22
d_mgsora: i just did this today. my approach was to loosely tighten each of the 7 screws first23:24
d_mand then once they were all in to retighten all of them a bit more. that seemed to work23:24

d_myeah if leave them all loose then you can still adjust it before fully tightening23:28
d_malso, i had the screen almost totally flat (open) when i did it, to minimize the effect of gravity on the alignment23:29
gsorahmm it's as if I shouldn't really tighten the screws23:30
optimalch: not possible anymore since the charging board needs to have wall power to start up, and i can't get wall power to it, so the pocket reform won't even turn on unless i bypass the charging board with the pin bridging trick23:30
d_myeah you should not need to use any strength23:30
gsorajust tighten them enough for them not to fall off 23:30
d_mright. don't overtighten23:31
choptimal: ok. any of the leds light up?23:31
gsoraneed a torque spec :^)23:31
gsorajokes aside this screen looks a lot better, and has better backlight23:32
gsorathe other one had a huge falloff between 55% and 50%23:33
choptimal: also, does it work if you stop the sysctl from booting? (PROG=on)23:34
optimalch: none of the LEDs light up without the bypass23:38
optimalalso wdym by stopping the sysctl from booting23:47
