gordon1i keep noticing that backlight flickers even on >85% brightness, it is a bit intermittent and very subtle compared to <85% brightness where it flickers a lot, is it something well-known? any advise how to deal with it except setting brightness to 100%?19:44

gordon1ah, ok20:15
joschthere is now one issue tracker for everything which i also find much better20:15
joschit allows filing issues that affect multiple components20:15

rwa_thanks, i added the information about my device20:47
rwa_ok - so the reform is not a suitable device sitting on the couch next to your partner who wants to watch a movie... :D20:56
joschi don't know if the flicker different for you but in my case i had to concentrate on it before i was able to see it20:58
josch(which is why i had to check actively for it just now)20:59
joschrwa_: you have the dsi variant -- do you have that one as well gordon1?21:00
rwa_yeah, it's only a few days old - i usually run the display between 50 and 80% brightness and the flicker is very obvious on my device21:01
gordon1josch: i have dsi variant, yes, flicker is barely noticeable with backlight around 80% and it goes away after a while, but with brightness 60% it is very evident21:01
gordon1it also becomes less pronounced after a while21:02
gordon1but it is very noticeable if you set up the brightness right after boot21:02
- vkoskiv (QUIT: Ping timeout: 240 seconds) (~vkoskiv@109-204-186-7.cust.valoonet.fi)21:02
joschwhile we are at that topic -- i was confused how dark the display is able to become using the gnome brightness slider21:02
joschmy a311d classic reform is way to bright on its lowest setting21:02
joschi think it's a feature but i wonder if that is a gnome thing or a hardware thing?21:03
rwa_jep, curiously the kde brightness values differ from the ones in gnome21:03
+ vkoskiv (~vkoskiv@109-204-186-7.cust.valoonet.fi)21:04
rwa_i.e. 70% brightness in gnome and kde seem to result in a different backlight intensity21:04

minuterwa_: gordon1: i have the brightness flicker issue in my personal todo now, also thanks for filing the bug22:55

minutei think this manifests mainly on the new-ish display we're using (which is technically better than the old one). it's possible that the pwm frequency needs to be changed22:56
gordon1hopefully will be an easy dts fix then!22:58
