minutejosch: about the hinges, i'm sorry to hear! but you're the only one who ever reported this issue...01:41
minutebkeys: sorry. i'm kind of on my own at the company at the moment01:42
bkeysminute: No problem, I can wait as long as needed. I just wanted to make sure it didn't fall into a hole01:42
minutevarious people are on holidays or have only part time capacity01:42
minutebkeys: yeah, i need to bring back the auto responder, it's off since DHL created a 400 mail bounce loop in there01:42
minutebkeys: i remember seeing your ticket01:43
minutebkeys: and we have new display stock so this should be sorted out soon01:43
bkeysDo you think it's the display itself?01:59
bkeysI think it's either that, or maybe something with the motherboard. I think it might be the motherboard because it won't light up an external display either01:59

kfxminute: since removing R82, I can't get video on rk3588 via dsi or the hdmi adapter, or with the imx8mq.  I know you & the team are overworked right now -- when would be a good time to ask after buying a new motherboard?02:48

joschminute: no worries, it's okay because i know how to repair them with M2 screws and i even have replacement hinges from you if i feel fancy :) -- i just hope i stay the only one and that the hinges last more than four years for others...03:28

joschgordon1: i already did on the forum back when it happened for the first hinge11:55
joschgordon1: https://community.mnt.re/t/unhinged-how-one-of-my-hinges-broke-and-how-i-repaired-it/334311:55
joschgordon1: tell me if you'd like me to elaborate somewhere. I can also follow up on that thread with photos of my left hinge which is now busted in the same way11:56
gordon1ah, i see, there were two rivets that failed and you just replaced them with M2 screws12:07
gordon1commendable12:08
gordon1i will keep that in mind12:08
joschoooh they are called "rivets" :D12:09
gordon1well technically those are not rivets i guess, because bottom part is press fit instead of pinning (maybe?)12:13
gordon1there's probably a technical term for this kind of fastener12:13

gordon1oh i realized now that original fasteners just sheared clean off, that's impressive12:55
casparvitchjosch: Hi sorry I'm back only with failure again, sorry. I get an error during d-i (d-i/reform-system-any-bpo.img.xz) in the 'select and install software stage'. Not a network or other simple error I think. It fails at about 95% after 'installing ca-certificates' or similar. I initially thought it might might just that the bootloader install is designed to fail as we use u-boot. So I just proceeded without bootloader. [...]12:58
casparvitchjosch: The installer just hangs there though, no "Finish the installation" or "U-boot" screen. Syslog before the fail says 'grub-installer: GRUB is only available on EFI arm64 systems, not arm64-generic' and then `systemd-boot-installer: systemd-boot is only usable on 64bit EFI systems, not arm64-generic`. Previously there's also `WARNING: pkgsel failed with error code 100`. [...]12:58
casparvitchjosch: Also, in case it matters it detects some missing firmware at the start of the d-i, I assumed it was just the wifi card so I ignored that. Any pointers appreciated as I've now written over my old partitions etc. - no rush though :)12:58
gordon1josch: technically m2 screws will have a bit less "meat" because of the threads, but just judging by the thickness it probably is some sort of manufacturing defect, and your M2 fix will probably last for quite some time12:58
casparvitchsorry to everyone else for the spam12:58
gordon1i doubt just metal fatigue can end up in such a clean shear12:59
gordon1also why those pins are so hard they can shear like that? i'm puzzled13:01
casparvitchjosch: Oh... I see a potentially more relevant issue in syslog (during pkgsel): "package linux-headers-mnt-reform-arm64 is not available, but is referred to by another package", then pkgsel fails. I will investigate...13:08

joschcasparvitch: thank you for your report! That looks like an issue that I should be able to reproduce as the last error message you posted should not be a platform-specific issue14:37
joschcasparvitch: mind if i copypaste what you said into an issue so that i do not forget to look into it?14:39
casparvitchjosch: yep go for it. I have some more info, I am just checking 1 last thing14:40
joschthank you!14:40
joschgordon1: yes, the M2 screws might be more fragile but if one breaks, they are very easy to replace which makes me sleep a bit better than having to wait weeks for replacement hinges from MNT XD14:40
casparvitchbasically looks like a whole heap of stuff was messed up - /sys wasn't mounted into /target & I had to copy the dtb to /etc/flash-kernel/dtbs/ to get the installer to find it14:42
joschoh?14:42
joschcasparvitch: i'm going on holidays in 2 weeks and i expect to definitely find the time then to fix this. Sorry for the trouble.14:43
joschcasparvitch: of course if you are fasten than me and can send a patch, that would work for me as well :)14:43
casparvitchjosch: no worries at all!! 0% upset here, having fun. Not sure exactly what the fix/source error is, just playing around and finding things that are missing14:44
casparvitchmy notes: Found the reform headers file with `chroot /target apt-get update` & `chroot /target apt-cache search linux-headers-mnt-reform`, so I go back to the installer from there and run software install step again & it works a bit better.. but still pkgsel errors out. Hmmmm. OK then what's missing is `imx8mp-mnt-pocket-reform.dtb` -> no `/target/etc/flash-kernel.conf`, and no `/proc/device-tree/model`? Looks like the installer 14:46
casparvitch`mount --bind /sys /target/sys` and run software install step again -> still errors out with missing `imx8mp-mnt-pocket-reform.dtb`14:46
casparvitchcp /target/usr/lib/linux-image-*/freescale/imx8mp-mnt-pocket-reform.dtb /target/etc/flash-kernel/dtbs/   14:46
joschcasparvitch: the problem is very likely the changes in this commit: https://salsa.debian.org/reform-team/reform-debian-installer/-/commit/26fdbf12bf6e0194bffdf1a25f9ff840de2d219f14:46
joschi bought the sd mux fast and once the MNT shop offers motherboards again, I'll get myself another two so that I can set up an automated testbed for these sort of thing14:49
casparvitchneeds an additional item there for the pocket-reform dtb?14:49
joschcasparvitch: theoretically no. I do not understand yet what the problem is but also do not have time right now to look into it. Still over 400 exams to correct...14:49
casparvitchha sorry you go enjoy that14:50
casparvitchno stress on timeline either, I can wait a month14:51
