joschi'm going to bed but once vagrantc comes online, anybody please feel free to share that i got kernel 6.12.35 running just fine on my rk3588 pocket reform: https://mister-muffin.de/p/yf1A.png00:49
joschwith these changes: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/12500:49
grimmwarejosch: that is pretty interesting… do the reform and the pocket use the same sensor?01:22

photomattmillshello! has anyone had any luck adding a touch digitizer to pocket reform? I found one following relevant links from the screen on Aliexpress, but the nominal size and actual size were somewhat different. it's like 9mm too narrow on one side.03:22

+ anzu (~anzu@melkki.cs.helsinki.fi)12:16
anzuHi! Update on my screen startup issue on A311D (I hope that's ok, if you're super bored from this, let me know). I have read the forums a bit, and I believe josch suggested to use gdm.12:17
anzuI now tried to enter my passphrase even when the screen is turned off. I saw the orange light on the motherboard blink, and eventually gdm showed up!12:18
joschanzu: you are using full disk encryption with luks?12:22
anzujosch: Yes12:22
joschyeah, then not having the screen light up sucks a lot :(12:22
joschi do not know what's causing it yet12:22
anzuIt is a good enough fix that makes the laptop actually usable again12:22
joschfortunately, in cases where the screen does not come on, you can just hard-poweroff the unit without having to worry about filesystem corruption because your rootfs wasn't mounted yet (as you did not enter a password)12:23
joschanzu: another workaround would be to not run the latest kernel12:23
anzuKnowing that it does turn on eventually is good for me. Before gdm, I have tried to somehow login, and reach the script that switches monitors. And there is just too many typos that could have occured somewhere that it's impossible to execute perfectly.12:24
anzuJust typing a passphrase means that if the screen doesn't show up, or the orange mainboard light does not blink, I entered my passphrase incorrectly12:25
anzujosch: Right, running the old kernel of my sd card was my previous option, but I didn't like it12:26
joschanzu: why?12:27
anzuI like to minimze the outdated software versions that I use12:29
joschanzu: linux kernel 6.12 is denoted a longterm release so it will receive updates for many years to come12:30
joschfor example kernel 5.10 is at revision 239 and received an update last week even though the original release was 4 years ago12:31
anzuOh, I see. I could figure out how this works in debian12:33
anzuI remember arch had one newer and one LTS kernel12:33
joschanzu: 6.12 is the kernel which will be used in the next Debian stable release (Trixie)12:34
joschanzu: if you don't want to build it yourself you can grab a copy from reform.debian.net12:34
josch(that's what i'm running on A311D)12:34
anzuI'm on 6.15 right now :D12:34
joschyes, that's the version which introduced that regression12:35
joschyou can also go back to 6.14 but that has the problem that it is not maintained anymore and thus will not receive any fixes12:35
+ photomattmills (~photomatt@192-184-254-28.fiber.dynamic.sonic.net)12:40
anzujosch: Yep I might go install Trixie stable! Thanks for the pointer. Currently I'm using Trixie unstable and I was thinking for a while that I probably don't need or care for unstable12:45
joschanzu: thanks to the freeze, unstable is currently very close to testing (which will turn into stable soon)12:46
joschanzu: you could even try turning your existing unstable installation into testing (Trixie) if you like12:46
joschdepending on whether or not you want to keep using unstable or stable going forward12:46

bremnerhopefully. I did try to register. And I'd hope my doppelganger would have more interesting kinds of trouble to cause ;)18:13

chjosch: have you seen this error before in your grml-live run.sh wrapper? https://paste.debian.net/hidden/9e8195bd/20:57
ryukazouDoes remove rk3588 compute module from RCORE-1 difficult? RCORE-2 is going to release soon but I’m afraid it would a difficult swap.21:27

joschch: i do not remember having ever seen this error (including outside the grml context)22:50
chkinda found it in the meantime. when mmdebstrap runs as root, /dev is not fully there22:51
chpretty sure i saw something similar before22:52
josch"not fully there"?22:52
chf.e. /dev/fd does not exist/work22:52
joschif you run mmdebstrap as root, it creates /dev like debootstrap would22:52
chhaven't fully investigated22:52
joschit should be a symlink to /proc/self/fd22:53
joschso maybe /proc not mounted?22:53
chah yes, that might be the case 22:53
chso its probably some combination of podman, mmdebstrap as root, grml-live22:53
joschyou run mmdebstrap as root inside podman?22:54
chyes, but then grml-live also probably doesnt mount /proc22:55
chnot really worth debugging it further imo22:55
joschch: talk to helmut about nested namespaces :)22:55
chyou have a merge request on salsa btw22:55
chheh yeah22:55
chthe nesting is too high22:56
joschch: what salsa project? i didn't get a notification mail22:56
chreform-grml22:56
joschoooh i did get a mail22:56
joschthanks will try to look at it tomorrow22:57
ch:)22:57
chdo you know if u-boot actually honors "prompt 0"?22:58
bremnerACTION grinds teeth a bit at being told new users can old put two links in a post23:07
chhttps://paste.debian.net/hidden/9afcdac4/ in podman this is all a bit terrible23:07
chbetter than paste.d.n going "do not spam!"23:08
bremnerkinda similar ;)23:15
