josch-pocket | still struggeling with the keyboard... the esc key ist just next to the 1 key, so win+1 to switch to the first workspace often becomes win+esc | 00:10 |
---|---|---|
josch-pocket | i guess i should change the win+esc hotkey | 00:10 |
bremner | do you have things setup to dim the screen etc... when the lid is closed? | 00:14 |
josch-pocket | brennen: there is no lid close sensor so i have to do that manually | 00:14 |
bremner | ah. boo! | 00:15 |
bremner | maybe some kind of idle timer / screenlock style thing | 00:15 |
josch-pocket | oh i have that | 00:15 |
josch-pocket | using swayidle | 00:15 |
bremner | I should set that up. | 00:16 |
wickedshell | josch-pocket: yeah I do the same thing with win esc and win 1, to the point where I moved important work off of the first desktop | 00:23 |
+ reform17401 (~root@174-21-141-166.tukw.qwest.net) | 00:23 | |
wickedshell | win esc makes sense, but it is prone to that, you're probably right on changing, I just need to actually think about what would be better | 00:23 |
josch-pocket | its specific to the pocket keyboard -- i never had this problem with classic reform | 00:25 |
reform17401 | hi y'all! I recently received my MNT reform and I'm encountering an issue where while charging with the battery display up on the system display, the battery display crashes. It stops updating, shows 000000 where it would show the charge/discharge amperage, and the keyboard stops functioning. The only way I've found to reset it is to open the case and disconnect the battery array leads. does anyone know anything about this issue? | 00:26 |
+ josch-pocket_ (~josch-poc@5.42.207.2) | 00:26 | |
josch-pocket_ | minute: i just got another pesky reset and reboot -- i'm switching back to the old sysctl firmware for nowc | 00:27 |
wickedshell | reform17401: I don't know about the issue, but to help others with it, pocket reform of full size one? | 00:27 |
wickedshell | josch-pocket_: have you noticed ubsan complaining on the pocket and stomping all over tuigreet/dmesg log on boot? | 00:28 |
reform17401 | my issue is with the full sized one | 00:28 |
josch-pocket_ | reform17401: is your issue explained in the top pinned post on https://community.mnt.re/? | 00:29 |

josch-pocket | reform17401: ah it is not | 00:30 |
josch-pocket | reform17401: did you just receive your new rk3588 classic reform? | 00:31 |
josch-pocket | wickedshell: my comment about pinned comunity forum post was actually for you, sorry my pocket rebooting made me loose chat history | 00:32 |
reform17401 | yes, I did just receive my new rk3588 | 00:33 |
josch-pocket | reform17401: yes others are experiencing similar problems with that batcn | 00:33 |
josch-pocket | minute: what is the progress with this problem of classic reform? | 00:34 |
reform17401 | thanks for letting me know. I'm considering disconnecting the batteries and running it off external USB power banks for now | 00:34 |
reform17401 | it's worth noting I've replaced all of the cells, after a few cycles 6 of the 8 cells it came with seemed to be faulty | 00:35 |
josch-pocket | reform17401: according to the oled? | 00:36 |
wickedshell | josch-pocket: ah makes sense, I assume the meta package change was recent though? As of a couple days ago I was completely up to date | 00:37 |
wickedshell | And I have to say I don't love seeing ubsan warnings :P But I know there's a lot more of those out there :) | 00:37 |
josch-pocket | wickedshell: no the metapackage change was 3 weeks ago | 00:38 |
wickedshell | josch-pocket: so if I read the post right it should have swapped to gdm, but tuigreet is still what's kicking, anything surprising about that | 00:39 |
josch-pocket | wickedshell: you have the reform-desktop-full meta package installed though? | 00:39 |
wickedshell | josch-pocket: ah, that's a fair question. I had made an assumption I did, but I don't actually know that. I'll check later. | 00:41 |
wickedshell | I've only really added things so I assumed it was there, but that's a terrible assumption | 00:41 |
josch-pocket | the loglevel default change comes with a reform-tools upgrade | 00:42 |

reform18574 | heya! I was in here a moment ago with the battery issue on the new mnt reformn classic. I just had a hard hang, which is particularly frustrating when the system power options don't work :) feedback for future designs: a hard power off switch that doesn't require disassembly to access would be incredible | 00:43 |
reform18574 | if there was any feedback on progress with this issue I might have missed it | 00:43 |
josch-pocket | reform18574: you might have to hang in a bit longer until minute or somebody else fixes this im afraid :( | 00:44 |
reform18574 | no problem! thanks for letting me know | 00:44 |
josch-pocket | reform18574: i also have one of the new rk3588 classic reform and can confirm your issues | 00:44 |
reform18574 | do you know anything about how to reproduce it consistently, so I can avoid reproducing it? | 00:44 |
josch-pocket | reform18574: there might be a connection with having the oled battery monitor open | 00:45 |
josch-pocket | reform18574: can you confirm whether or not you have your oley on? | 00:45 |
reform18574 | gotcha. I'll try to not have that open while charging then :) every time I have reproduced this, the battery display has been up on the oled | 00:45 |
josch-pocket | okay, thank you for confirming | 00:46 |

kfx | damn, the gpioset command isn't fixing the ethernet reset loop. | 01:42 |
minute | kfx: with the newest dts, the gpioset shouldn't be necessary anymore. which dts are you using? | 01:45 |
kfx | definitely not the newest. I'll pull it down. | 01:45 |
kfx | where is it? the one I'm using, from reform-debian-packages is from a month ago | 01:46 |
minute | relevant changes: | 01:47 |
minute | https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/blob/main/linux/rk3588-mnt-reform2.dts?ref_type=heads#L913 | 01:47 |
kfx | ok, that is the one I'm using | 01:47 |
minute | and https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/blob/main/linux/rk3588-mnt-reform2.dts?ref_type=heads#L228 | 01:48 |
minute | kfx: ok, you have the same stuff in those nodes yeah? | 01:48 |
minute | kfx: can you show dmesg of what the loop looks like? | 01:49 |
minute | kfx: another thing you can try is limit to 100mbit, does that change something? | 01:49 |
kfx | minute: http://okturing.com/src/25686/body | 01:50 |
kfx | and I'm verifying the node contents now | 01:50 |
minute | kfx: doesn't look like reset to me | 01:51 |
kfx | confirmed I have that node data in my device tree | 01:51 |
kfx | ok, guess I misdiagnosed | 01:52 |
minute | kfx: thanks! it looks like there might be a signal integrity issue | 01:52 |
minute | kfx: you have another cable or another port/device for the other side? | 01:52 |
minute | kfx: or is it stable when forcing 100 mbit? | 01:53 |
kfx | I've tried several ports and cables on this switch, and also took it into the office and it behaved the same way there | 01:53 |
kfx | I'll try forcing 100mbit | 01:53 |
minute | ok, then signal integrity issue is in the laptop | 01:54 |
minute | if 100 mbit is stable, i would try to reseat the rcore module in reform's slot and make sure it's straight in, not at a slight angle etc | 01:54 |
kfx | yep, 100mbit is stable. I'll reseat the module | 01:56 |
kfx | otherwise, alpine linux is workin' great | 01:57 |
minute | kfx: cool to hear about alpine and sorry for the ethernet woes :/ | 01:58 |
kfx | next demon to slay is cpu frequency scaling | 01:59 |
