joschminute: call this script https://paste.debian.net/hidden/52cc305c/ with schemas/20_reform.gschema.override as the first argument and it will print which of your current settings differ from those in that file01:33
joschI could add this to reform-check and also add a mode which alls reset() on those settings that do differ, restoring their default01:33
joschminute: then you don't need to add reform-gnome-config anymore, right?01:35
minutejosch: great, thanks a ton, i'll test that tomorrow!01:36
joschokay :)01:36

gsoraminute: ah i see, good thing i chose the trackball then - hoping in a hi-res trackpad for reform2 in the future :^)14:39
minutejosch: about !123, looks good to me, so with that i'll remove the autostart .desktop file from system-image and test that. do you think !123 could be merged?15:23
minutejosch: the comment about the autostart should be removed then from the top of reform-gnome-config15:24
minutejosch: also, any blockers to merge https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/112 ? (none from my side)15:26
- andreas-e (QUIT: Quit: Leaving) (~Andreas@sauterelle.math.u-bordeaux1.fr)15:32
joschminute: about !112 -- yes, i'm concerned about the upgrade path. The meta-package now pulls in gnome and with that gdm and I wonder what that will do to existing systems with sway and greetd/tuigreet. I didn't test that yet.15:39
joschminute: !123 might be fine (I didn't test very thoroughly whether the schema override does the desired thing or not) but merging reform-tools MRs poses zero risks15:40
joschminute: only merging reform-debian-packages stuff is risky because whatever the pipeline in main produces will be placed on the MNT mirrors an hour later15:40
joschminute: so if you think that reform-tools !123 is ready, press the merge button. If there are bugs, those can easily be fixed after the fact without affecting anybody.15:41
joschminute: and about the autostart .desktop file: yes, if everything works as we expect, then that one should not be necessary anymore. Does that also make reform-gnome-config obsolute now that reform-check contains code to show the user how to migrate their system to the MNT defaults?15:44
minutejosch: not sure about reform-gnome-config, it could also solve/cleanup any greetd/gdm foo in the future for example15:49
joschokay15:50
minutejosch: we wanna ship a batch of 30 rk3588 classic reforms this week with gnome because it would be bad UX to ship something immediately deprecated 15:50
minuteso i'm thinking how can i make a system image for them relatively safely15:50
minutejosch: i'd like to start reinstalling those machines tomorrow15:52
joschokay, let me quickly do the test of installing the modified reform-desktop meta package on a system configured with sway and tuigreet15:52
minutejosch: cool15:52
joschminute: did you verify already that the schema overrides do what they are supposed to?15:53
minutejosch: no, can do it now (in 5 mins)15:53
joschnice -- fresh system image is getting copied on my poor victim sd-card :)15:56
minutetrying to wrap my head around how to test this16:07
joschdid you already schedule a system image to be built with all the new stuff in it?16:08
minutejosch: no16:08
minutecan do it now, i have to push the commit that removes the autostart16:08
joschyou could for example merge the reform-tools stuff that you think is good -- as i said, if something is wrong we can fix it later16:08
minuteok16:08
joschand then you run reform-system-image and tell it to use reform-tools from the  main branch16:09
minutejosch: ok, reform-tools MR merged, gonna push reform-system-image. reform-debian-packages branch will remain as "gnome"16:10

minutejosch: woops, i made a huge mistake16:12

joschminute: should i just rewrite history to undo that quickly?16:13
minutejosch: if you can, that would be great yeah16:13
joschokay, say...16:13
minutejosch: ok, now i clicked merge on the right thing (reform-tools !123)16:15

joschBus 002 Device 004: ID 2c7c:0306 Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., Ltd. EG06/EP06/EM06 LTE-A modem16:32
joschi got a mini-scare because the thing shipped with a adapter to plug it into a usb-port and on the classic reform this resulted in "unable to enumerate USB device"...16:33
joschminute: okay i have results. What happens is the following. I installed the updated meta packages from the gitlab CI artifacts, pulling in gnome and gdm. After rebooting I am presented with gdm (i did not touch the greetd systemd unit or the tuigreet config) which will log me into *gnome*16:44
joschso i guess a forum post is in order explaining how to log into sway instead (if desired) by clickingon the small cog wheel icon on the bottom right after selecting the user name16:45
joschone can then choose sway from a popup menu16:45
joschand i'm back in sway16:45

joschminute: i rebooted. No idea how else i would get gdm. or do you mean reboot a second time?16:50

minutejosch: ahh yeah ok. do you have a dock with icons? do you have mnt reform logo in gdm? do you have the "y2k" mnt logo background in gnome?16:50

minutejosch: ah right :D sorry16:51
joschi'd need a new system image for that16:51
joschbut once the pipeline is complete you can shout and i pop it in16:51

minute(reform-debian-packages)16:56
