joschthe switches are very interesting -- i have only been using the browns so far00:00

joschwhat was the original mapping? somehow i keep trying to use the left-most button as the scroll wheel button instead of using it as the middle mouse button00:51

digitalraneIs the uboot for pocket reform + im8mp meant to be able to boot from an NVMe? I haven't reviewed the config yet, but I'm not seeing my NVMe detected in uboot logs?03:50
digitalraneI'm sure I can use the emmc for /boot but I was just curious03:51
digitalraneOK the config doesn't seem to enable it, so I'm assuming no, and will try adding it to the config03:53

joschzeha: i just ran "apt install gnome" and it seems to have worked for some value of "worked": https://mister-muffin.de/p/cG5T.jpg12:12
zeham(12:13
joschthe issue is described here: https://community.mnt.re/t/gnome-integration-notes-issue-tracking/316812:13
joschso it's trivial to fix12:13
joschas a user12:13
joschit becomes tricky when we want to create a reasonable default and then we get into the territory of device specific /etc/skel12:14
joschwe talked about this topic a bit ago and decided on using jinja2 templates in reform-tools and applied by reform-setup-wizard12:14
zehai still hope we can do this in devicetree :/12:15
joschyes, though there were more reasons to want a device specific $HOME12:16
joschzeha: also remember how i showed you that instead of pressing down, enter in the oled menu to start the pocket you can just press "1" as well? I now learned that you can also just *hold* diagonal arrow and enter and the pocket will also boot12:18

minutejosch: so glad you got the pocket now! also, i've been discussing this gdm issue a lot :D18:35
minutewe just had a 5 hour marathon meeting here filling in data for our new self-support system (do be launched soon), now i need some other topic to wake my brain up again :D18:37
minutezeha: i also want to fix this on a device tree level18:38
minutezeha: i remember we tried something a longer while ago here but i don't remember why that didn't work18:39
minutehttps://lore.kernel.org/lkml/CAD=FV=V7EiaYgzr57geyeqEafLJ67G2PJa8ejZwgWNV+icD0RQ@mail.gmail.com/T/18:39
minutethere is drm_panel_get_orientation()18:39
minute> For example, some panels parse the property through device tree during probe18:39
minuteah, so it's up to the panel driver? as we have a custom driver now we could maybe put it there18:39
minute(custom since disp v2)18:39
minuteelixir.bootlin.com doesn't find drm_panel_get_orientation18:41
minuteso i guess at least with this name it wasn't merged18:41
minuteah https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v6.14.7/A/ident/get_orientation18:47
minute> err = of_drm_get_panel_orientation(dev->of_node, &ctx->orientation);18:48
minute * of_drm_get_panel_orientation - look up the orientation of the panel through18:48
minute * the "rotation" binding from a device tree node18:48
minuteok we just need to wire this up in the pocket reform panel driver18:48
zehaah18:51
zehamakes sense to me18:52
joschminute: You know I have been reading this channel and the forum about Pocket topics from the sidelines since the beginning and I must admit I was a bit worried that I would run into one problem or the other. But my fedi post didn't like. I literally did not find an issue yet which makes this device a show stopper. I'm so impressed how mature the pocket is!19:00
minutejosch: very nice to hear!19:05

BoostisBetteryep, the recent sysctrl and kb firmware has fixed all of the kb issues I was having. Although it does seem like messing with the kb backlight does still intriduce some recoverable instability. I just don't do that anymore and things have been solid. I have been up for 9 days at this point Woot!.19:37

BoostisBetterminute: have you figured out a bluetooth solution? I know you said you were working on something. No rush or stress. Just asking.19:45

minutealso, extlinux, yay21:40
joschminute: that is actually wrong, sorry22:00
joschminute: i forgot that when you run the pipeline with custom variables, then that changes the "last successful" run...22:00
joschi'm going to re-run it now with default values22:00
minutejosch: thanks!22:00
joschsorry22:00
joschmy intention was not to "remove" the normal images22:00
joschclearly i need to add some safeguards there like for reform-debian-packages22:01
joschto forbid running the pipeline with different settings22:01
minuteah i see22:03
joschwhat i changed was, that now the reform-system-any image will be generated *in addition* to the others22:03
joschso now you can choose22:03
joschfor me this has the advantage that i now flash an image to an sd-card and it works on my a311d reform, the imx8mq and the rk3588 pocket22:03
joschso testing is a bit faster22:04
joschand my other motivation was, that with so many system images, i'm running out of disk space on reform.debian.net22:04
joschso even if you don't like the reform-system-any images, i am planning to only ship those on reform.d.n because of space constraints22:05
minutejosch: ah yeah, in addition to the others is good22:07
minutejosch: i do like them. i just have a chicken-and-egg problem when needing to create a factory image incl uboot for new devices that don't have uboot yet. but this can be solved soon22:08
joschminute: note that you are always free to flash u-boot to the reform-system-any as well22:08
minuteaaaaa driver based display rotation works 0__022:08
joschminute: the first partition is intentionally at an offset of 16MB22:08
minutei could have done this all along... 22:08
joschthat way, even rk3588 u-boot fits22:09
minute*head explodes*22:09
joschcongrats!22:09
minutejosch: that's cool @ uboot, i just need to adjust our internal tooling for that then, and documentation. so in general i'm all for the universal image, just need some more time to prepare docs etc22:10
joschminute: the advantage is, that there is no rush because the existing images can happily co-exist with the any-image :)22:10
minuteok great :D22:13

joschminute: you did it! gdm is not in portrait mode anymore!23:35
joschand for some reason, both terminal as well as gnome itself (where i set up landscape rotation) are rotated the right way23:36
joschindeed, instead of giving me the options "portrait, landscape right, landscape left and portrait (flipped)" i now get "landscape, portrait right, portrait left and landscape (flipped)"23:39
minutejosch: oh nice, which build did you test, the latest?23:47
joschyes23:47
minutenice, thanks for testing! you have display v2 and i have v123:47
joschyes, two pipelines you said the first produced artifacts so i tested the second once it had completed23:48
joschcoolio!23:48
minutegreat23:48
joschi was worried that this would cause regressions due to existing workarounds rotating stuff -- good that this does not seem to be the case :)23:50
joschthis means that the fbcon=rotate:3 cmdline can stay in u-boot for a while longer until everybody upgraded to the fixed kernel23:51
minuteah yeah, i was wondering23:53
