vagrantcFWIW i enabled BTRFS support in my reform-rk3588-uboot builds ... seems to work well enough00:13
minutejosch: nice, thanks a ton! this saves me some work indeed00:17
joschno premature celebration please00:18
joschu-boot was not happy with the dtb00:18
joschi had to remove some hdmi-related nodes from it00:18
josch(i saw that the same was done fore the non-dsi dtb)00:18
joschso maybe diff it against the dtb in the linux kernel00:19

minutejosch: uboot only needs rudimentary stuff from the dtb i think... nothing display related works in uboot yet00:31

joschat minidebconf hamburg i talked to roland clobus, the debian live maintainer and he helped me hack debian-live to build an image that can boot on the Reform. Unfortunately, it only goes as far as getting a little bit into the initramfs where it fails with:17:03
joschBegin: Mounting root file system ... /init: .: line 249: can't open '/scripts/live': No such file or directory17:03
joschKernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!17:03
joschI checked the initramfs and it *does* contain /scripts/live17:03
joschI also successfully booted the same kernel and initramfs with qemu17:03
joschWould somebody else with a Reform or Pocket Reform like to try out my image? Ideally somebody who can do UART serial debugging if needed? :)17:04
joschIf your u-boot is on emmc, then the image I built should be working as-is. It's just 438 MB large.17:04

joschi can take care of clicking the buttons just communicating my intentions and making sure that this works with the plan you have in mind :)21:57
minutejosch: this works, thanks a lot!21:59
joschyou are welcome! it's a lot of fun :)22:00

austriancoderminute: 43d3451fdb9419d7eab5c2fff9e58d314521e62a is the first bad commit - lets see how to fix it22:19
minuteaustriancoder: oh ok22:20
joschminute: pipeline was a success -- if you are impatient you could trigger the mirror sync manually :)22:22
vagrantci think the .dts files need to be versioned or something ... getting "Error: arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/rk3588-mnt-reform2.dts:277.1-11 Label or path hdptxphy1 not found" when building linux 6.12 with the latest reform-debian-packages patches22:22
minutejosch: ah nice22:22
joschvagrantc: minute conciously decided against patching rk3588 dts because it's much easier to edit it if it's a plain file and not a versioned patch22:23
minutejosch: done22:23
minutevagrantc: you're working with unfinished stuff there22:23
vagrantcfair ..22:23
minutevagrantc: i've already fixed this...22:23
vagrantcshould i both with 6.14 ?22:23
vagrantcbother ...22:24
minute6.12 is no more22:24
minute:D22:24
vagrantcoh noe22:24
vagrantc6.12 is lts ...22:24
vagrantcbut i cna understand not maintaining N different kernel branches22:24
joschvagrantc: unfortunately 6.12 cannot do dsi display with rk358822:25
joschso minute had to upgrade22:25
vkoskivRan an upgrade and now that weird CPU time accounting bug where it was showing sugov as using a lot of CPU is gone.22:25
vagrantcso ... 6.12 should be removed?22:25
joschvagrantc: define "removed"22:26
vagrantci see lots of patches in reform-debian-packages/linux/patches6.*22:26
vkoskivWonder what caused that. I looked into it, apparently sugov is the scheduler governor adjusting thing, and I saw two of them, I believe because there is one for each type of CPU.22:26
vagrantcbut if they do not work, then should they just be laying around to trick people into using them :)22:26
joschvagrantc: no, those are used -- on reform.debian.net22:27
joschvagrantc: we need the patches directory for stable, for backports, for unstable and sometimes for experimental22:27
joschthus, multiple directories at the same time22:27
vagrantcthere are more directories than debian suites22:27
minutejosch: hmm, flash-kernel still complains about not knowing the RCORE-DSI machine22:27
joschminute: indeed we have to patch flash-kernel as well22:28
minutei set up today one of two Desktop Reforms here in the office (those will be dedicated machines for coworkers) and the first one uses the RCORE-DSI uboot+dtb, testing with that22:29
grimmwaremhoye: thanks man, I started writing it because I was between things and decided to start and then I realised I had most of a blog post so…22:30
joschminute: i pushed the patch directly to main: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/commit/80a25743bf7f2b39209b5dc19978910fbd1c939722:32
joschonce the dtb is upstream (*hint* *hint*), vagrantc will include it in the official flash-kernel22:33

minutejosch: very good, thanks... i need to go home + rest a bit, but will continue testing etc in the morrow22:34
joschnice :)22:35
joschrest well _o/22:35
minutethanks!!22:35
joschand thank you too for all your hard work :)22:35
vagrantcso, building with the latest patches i can see in reform-debian-packages ... should i look elsewhere for the fixed versions?22:47
vagrantcor just wait?22:47
joschvagrantc: can you not just use the last commit that worked for you instead?22:49
vagrantcjosch: of course, although i also am trying to test things ... but if i should just wait, i can just wait22:50
joschvagrantc: the hdptxphy1 thing might be something that only exists in the 6.14 collabora patch stack and not in 6.1222:50
joschafaik minute only tested the new dtb on 6.14 and not on 6.1222:51
vagrantcsure22:51
joschvagrantc: alternatively, do *not* use the dtb copy at all but use this patch against the upstream rk3588 dtb: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/8922:52
joschthis should work because you are only interested in 6.12 and you are only interested in the HDMI variant which was upstreamed22:52
vagrantcoooh. this will be interesting to try... :)22:53
joschvagrantc: be aware though. I do not have an rk3588 reform (yet) so this received zero testing22:54
joschvagrantc: i just changed upstream's dtb until the output looked similar enough to MNT's dtb (only addresses differed)22:54
vagrantcwell, if all goes well it will get one test :)22:55
joschnono22:55
joschif all goes well you send me patches :)22:55
vagrantcoh yeah, i owe some patches for some other things :)22:55
vagrantcor at least a bug report22:56
joschhm? like for what?22:56
joschi still need to receive a reply from guillem22:56
vagrantcreform-tools split thoughts22:56
joschah :)22:56
vagrantcsuppose i should also fix fscking flash-kernel so it can get uploaded ...22:57
vagrantcACTION pouts22:57
joschvagrantc: once you have a patch for that, please feel free to send it to me so that i can throw it into my reproducer machinery23:00
minutedoing a few apt upgrades on my personal pocket reform at home :023:56
joschall going well?23:57
joschshould not be many upgrades these weeks23:57
minutereform-tools went fine i think, now i'm installing the kernel 6.14.523:57
minutei'm not doing a real upgrade, just reform-tools and kernel23:58
minute(and what gets pulled in)23:58
minuteok, install went fine, gonna reboot, and hope for the best23:58
