josch_noreformGTK 4.18 removed the GL renderer as part of a "spring cleaning": https://blog.gtk.org/2025/02/01/whats-new-in-gtk-winter-2025-edition/17:57
josch_noreformThis makes clapper unusable on the imx8mq because it cannot do GLES 3.0+17:58

minutejosch: sure this is not about gl vrs ngl?18:25
minutefunky, no more x11 support in gtk5 :D18:25
minutejosch: ah yeah, ngl requires at least gl core 3.2, but maybe it works anyway on imx8mq, did you check already?18:27

josch_noreformminute: No luck with GSK_RENDERER=ngl either. If I read the code correctly, it's just a different name for the new opengl renderer. Software renderer works but turns the video into a slideshow. The code of the gl backend was completely dropped here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/-/commit/af2aadbe9b4683b752eb2ee10776e36f3fd9f2a719:14
josch_noreformclapper upstream author recommends using the flatpak version which still builds with gtk before 4.18: https://github.com/Rafostar/clapper/issues/54119:16

josch_noreformwith the override it renders the first frame of the video and then quits with: MESA: error: Unhandled NIR tex type: 419:24

joschI asked in #debian-gnome and understandably, gtk4 maintainers are not excited about the idea of re-enabling the gl backend at least for the Trixie release because it's a lot of code22:54
joschminute: do we want to build our own gtk4 with the gl backend re-enabled on the mntre.com CI?22:54
joschthis "works":23:11
joschMESA_GLES_VERSION_OVERRIDE=3.2 MESA_GLSL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=320 GSK_RENDERER=cairo23:11
josch"works" as in: "it plays the video instead of immediately exiting"23:11
joschbut it's a slideshow23:11
joschand looking at the cpu utilization it's probably just using a software renderer23:11
minutejosch: well cairo is software renderer yeah23:19

austriancoderjosch: I am going to install clapper and give it a try. maybe its easy to support it23:38
joschaustriancoder: the important thing is not the clapper version but the gtk version you have installed. The error happens with gtk 4.18+ independent of the version of clapper23:38
