chmaybe you need to say ~/.config/...14:50
chjust guessing though14:50
amospallaYou probably need permissions, you are writing to a device in /dev.14:50
amospallaMy script is a simple wrapper that ends doing a `printf > /dev/hidrawN`, but needs to be run as root, or at least with permissions to write to the device.14:54
BoostisBetteryeah I did a chmod +x14:59
BoostisBetterI thought this would make runnable but it does need root to work. 15:00
gsorahave you tried with a udev rule?15:02
BoostisBetterwould need help with that. 15:04
BoostisBetterI know they allow you to alias sudo on commands, and give those commands to run as root, but I don't know how to make the rule. 15:05
gsoralet's see if i can be helpful then!15:08
BoostisBettergsora: that would be great15:08
BoostisBetterthe command in the wrapper is 15:08
BoostisBettersudo rmt leds set 0 0 255 15:08
BoostisBetterbasically I want to use a key combo to just make the keyboard backlight blue. 15:09
gsorawithout sudo of course15:09
BoostisBetterI would need a udev rule for rmt, I believe. 15:09
gsorayup, there's prior art on it as well: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/85379/dev-hidraw-read-permissions15:09
BoostisBetterno because it is rightin the /dev/hidraw I believe it is necessary15:09
gsorathe accepted answer should work, provided your user is in the plugdev group15:09
BoostisBetterok the solution is for hidraw, if I replace that with rmt15:15
BoostisBetteris it ithe same? 15:15
gsorawell if rmt accesses /dev/hidrawN directly, then it should work the same15:16
gsorathat is, running rmt without sudo should have read/write access to /dev/hidrawN15:16
- ericsfraga (QUIT: Quit: ERC 5.6.1-git (IRC client for GNU Emacs 31.0.50)) (~user@2a00:23cc:b43d:4b00::3ce)15:16
BoostisBettermeaning that I leave hidraw in there and don't substitue rmt for it? 15:16
gsorai'm assuming that rmt read/writes to /dev/hidrawN here15:18
BoostisBetterit does15:19
BoostisBetterso I can just use hidraw* in the udev rule15:19
BoostisBetterthat is what you mean15:19
gsorayeah i think15:20
gsorathat rule should allow plugdev users to read/write to any /dev/hidrawN device15:20
amospallamy script shows your hidraw device path. Putting this on cron should work too '@reboot my_username "$(/usr/local/bin/rmt wait hidraw)" && chmod g+w "$(/usr/local/bin/rmt wait hidraw)"'15:21
BoostisBetterI added the udev, but not sure how to restart the udev services. I'll try rebooting. 15:22
amospallaSorry, this '@reboot chgrp my_username "$(/usr/local/bin/rmt wait hidraw)" && chmod g+w "$(/usr/local/bin/rmt wait hidraw)"'15:23
amospallaAn udev rule is cleaner though.15:24
amospallaMore event oriented.15:24
BoostisBetterjust reboot and it is working calling rmt directly from the sway config. Thank you very much for the help15:24
gsoraso no need for sudo right?15:25
BoostisBetteryep, just can call rmt leds set and pass the argument and it works. 15:25
gsoraawesome! glad i could help15:29

nockoUnrelated question: I have an original reform2 motherboard (#83). The battery meter (oled) recently stuck at 0%. However charge/discharge and the meter in swaybar function as intended. I assumed my firmware was old, and installed a newer one using ./download_fw.sh in reform/reform-lpc-fw . I selected 20_R3 (because I have a 2.0 motherboard (I think that was the first shipping versio). 21:05
nockoAfter the upgrade, the battery meter (oled) is stuck at ???% and charging no longer works.21:05
nockoIt will run from AC, but not charge.21:05
nockoUpon closer inspection, the motherboard version says: <obscured by cable>MOB20R02.21:06
nockoThis sounds like I have an older motherboard and should build the fw myself with #define REFORM_MOTHERBOARD_REV REFORM_MBREV_R2.21:07
nockoI just wanted to confirm before I get started.21:08
sevannocko: somewhere in the LPC firmware I recall it states that if you got your motherboard before 2023, it's an R2 version.21:10
nockoOkay. I tried to save myself the build/setup and use the downloader... and that doesn't support R2. It advises to use 20_R3 "if you have a 2.0 motherboard".21:11

nockoYeah, it doesn't build an artifact and the script only accepts 25_R2 or 20_R321:18
nockoIt's fixable. I'll try to put in a patch.21:18

sevannocko: I meant to say download firmware-20_R3.bin from there and save it as 'firmware.bin' in your reform/reform-lpc-fw/bin directory.21:19
nockoI don't have an R3, I have an R221:19
sevannocko: you can then run ./flash.sh21:20
nockoI can build it myself, but it would be nice if it was prebuilt.21:20
sevanthat's release 3 for the 2.0 motherboard, right?21:20
sevanand release 2 for the 2.5 motherboard21:21
sevanor that's what I understood. Let me double check21:21
nockoI have release 2 of the 2.0 board.21:21
sevanahh, are you refering to '#define REFORM_MBREV_R2 12 // stock R2'21:23
nockoI think that is me, yes.21:23
sevanunderstood.21:24
sevannocko: just to double check, when you upgraded to the latest firmware, did you upgrade the lpc driver package on the OS side? (assuming you're running debian)21:25
nockoI wanted to check my understanding, like maybe the 20_R3 is also supposed to support the 20_R2... the help text on the download_fw.sh command says use 20_R3 "if you have a 2.0 motherboard".21:25
nockoThe lpc driver is current.21:26
sevannocko: according to comment in src "#define REFORM_MBREV_20_R3 13 // R2 with "NTC instead of RNG/SS" fix21:27
nockoI read that, but I don't know if mine has this fix. It's quite an early unit.21:27
nockoMarch 202121:29
