joschthe connector of one of my usb-c cables broke yesterday in the train (the power plug is between the seats, so if i put my DC adapter in there and then the cable into the adapter, there is only about 15 cm left between the cable and the seat in front, so when someboy wants to pas through, they are either very careful, or the adapter falls out of the power socket or the cable breaks off...)09:00
joschluckily i found a new cable at a local store and it has an included display that shows how much power is drawn via usb-pd09:01
joschthis one shows 91 W power draw when charging batteries at 31%... ufff...09:01
joschi'm glad that this is supposed to be solved with motherboard 3.009:01
joschi'd love to re-use the usb-c adapter i have for my thinkpad at work which is only rated 60W09:02

AbortRetryFailIs there someplace to directly connect DC input on MB 3.0? 14:41

AbortRetryFailHeh, I wonder if those puppies are rated for 4.5A 😆17:41
minuteAbortRetryFail: it's kind of surprising how much current goes through thin wires! :D17:51
minuteyesterday i flame-grilled an fpc cable though 17:52
minutewas a nice little smoke show17:52
AbortRetryFailWhat tends to be a surprise is how much heat they produce doing it. :)17:52

joschAbortRetryFail: my usb-c cable broke. Have a look at those thin wires which claim that they can go up to 240 W. It's nuts. o018:56
mhoyeI'm vaguely annoyed that we went from "USB is one connector, works everywhere" to "well, actually there's a bunch of different USBs cable and the spec is ambiguous kindaaaaa" to "USB-C, we're saved!" to "actually those ones are fire hazards, don't use those cables or your house will burn down."19:40
mhoyeAny idea where I'd start diagnosing a no-signal external monitor question on a 1stgen Reform?20:27
joschmhoye: you start by making sure that you have the HDMI dtb loaded20:36
joschmhoye: running sudo reform-check has some things in it that check for consistency surrounding dtb choice on imx8mq20:37

mhoyereform-check doesn't claim anything is amiss related to dtb21:37
mhoyeand /boot/dtb is a symlink to imx8mq-mnt-reform2-hdmi.dtb21:38
mhoyejournalctl -S today | grep .dtb   does not return anything.21:40
mhoyeNot sure where to look next. 21:40
joschmhoye: good, that sounds like your /proc/device-tree/model also says "Reform 2 HDMI"?21:41
mhoyecorrect.21:43
joschdoes your hdmi show up in: swaymsg -t get_outputs21:44
mhoyelemme start sway, see what it thinks!21:44
joschyou could also have a look in u-boot which should also output on hdmi21:45
mhoyeBooting with the external monitor attached doesn't show anything on the external monitor21:47
mhoyeswaymsg admits the existence of eDP-1 but nothing else.21:48
joschcould always be a problem of the cable or the monitor...21:48
