joschgrimmware, mhoye: woke up this morning and the sensor tracking is 100% smooth again. I did not do any cleaning of the sensor between now and 9 hours ago.07:58
grimmwareWat. Difficult to see that as anything other than an interaction between the sensor module setting some bits and irregularity in the surface of the ball because otherwise I can’t see how it would happen randomly and persist for hours08:16
joschi wonder what i'm doing different compared to mhoye 08:19

staticbunnywhats that patch for?18:05
staticbunnyalso is there a wiki or releases page to keep track of firmare updates?18:06
joschstaticbunny: the team is working on firmware updates via fwupd18:23
staticbunnywill i get them through apt?18:23
joschstaticbunny: no, you'll get them via fwupd :)18:23
joschit works the same way on x86 machines18:23
staticbunnyso how would someome know to do that?18:24
staticbunnythats what im getting at. no disrespect18:24
Twodisbetteramospalla: thank you very much. I think I assumed your script used dpms because I noticed a crash under wayfire when using it in conjunction with the screen saver. I think I have had your script fail to resume only one time, and if memory serves me correctly there was some other factors contributing then. 18:25
Twodisbetteramospalla: since you are using your pocket a lot, how are you doing with your typing speed on there so far?18:25
joschstaticbunny: you'd run: fwupdmgr get-updates18:27
joschstaticbunny: kde plasma and gnome have frontends for that18:27
joschfor my work laptop (amd machine) i just yesterday got a notification in gnome that my SSD firmware can be upgraded18:27
staticbunnyhuh ok, thats new to me. only seen that on ubuntu18:28
staticbunnyif reforms dont have that by default we should add that to the docs or install by default. ive been doing updates manually wondering if there is a new one18:29
joschstaticbunny: they don't have it by default yet because it's not 100% implemented yet18:31
joschstaticbunny: ch knows the current status18:31
staticbunnyah ok fair enough18:31
staticbunnyi just didnt want to get behind on firmware updates18:31
joschstaticbunny: i think if your current firmware works, then there is not much need to upgrade it18:32
staticbunnykeyboard needs some adjusting imho18:36

NanoCodeBugusing the latest pocket reform image for the rk3588, the bootup and login screen are rotated 90 degrees18:56
staticbunnyjosch: tilde has ;20 or something before it18:58
staticbunnyi meantioned it to minute before18:59
joschNanoCodeBug: can you copypaste your /proc/cmdline?19:09
joschstaticbunny: hrm... that sounds more like a software problem19:10
NanoCodeBugjosch: "ro no_console_suspend cryptomgr.notests loglevel=3  clk_ignore_unused cma=256M swiotlb=65535  console=tty1"19:15
NanoCodeBugdesktop is the correct rotation though19:15
NanoCodeBuglooking into the dts overlays for the rk3588 - I was wondering why the reported frequency range of the rk3588 in the pocket is different from other rk3588 boards - it turns out that mainline linux dropped all frequencies that did not have different voltages for the rk3588.19:36
NanoCodeBugthe radxa (and other) forks continue to include these - it may be worth adding these back in for power efficiency, though I don't know enough about the architecture to say if frequency without voltage change will bring power improvements.19:38
NanoCodeBughttps://lore.kernel.org/all/20240617-rk-dts-additions-v5-6-c1f5f3267f1e@gmail.com/19:39
hramrachit should have fbcon=rotate:3 you can add it in /etc/default/flash-kernel if you are using boot.scr19:40
NanoCodeBugthanks! my follow up question is what is missing in the image generation that this is not the default19:41
hramrachand run flash-kernel to generate boot.scr again19:41
hramrachyou built it yourself?19:41
NanoCodeBugno, this is from the official image download19:42
hramrachthis should be included in u-boot default commandline19:42
NanoCodeBugclean boot from the flashed sd card left me in this state19:42
NanoCodeBugfirst boot into setup was also rotated until it launched wayland19:43
hramrachuh, and that's on the board, not in the image19:43
hramrachso whatver shipped on the board remains there19:43

NanoCodeBuglsblk says my boot device is my sdcard, does it not prefer the sdcard for boot if present?19:44
hramrachthe kernel is loaded from there but no u-boot AFAIK19:45
joschi think i remember that Lukas said that the rk3588 prefers u-boot on sd-card automatically19:46
joschis the latest git tag of rk3588 u-boot including fbcon=rotate:3?19:46
hramrachis there one in the image then?19:47
hramrachlatest is 2024-10-11b which is gefore adding the font size, it has the rotation19:47
joschi'll have to investigate later19:50
joschNanoCodeBug: please feel free to ping me if i should fail to remember to look into this19:50
hramrachyou would probably see SPL messages on the serial console if you connected it, it should say from what medium it loaded19:50
hramrachIn the meantime adding the missing arguments to /etc/default/flash-kernel is recommended, the current git has: clk_ignore_unused cma=256M swiotlb=65535 fbcon=rotate:3 fbcon=font:TER16x3219:52
joschoh good point, i need to update the BOOTARGS value for rk3588 after the fbcon=font:TER16x32 addition19:56
joschNanoCodeBug: what does "sudo reform-check" report?19:58
hramrachfbcon=font:TER16x32 sould be on all Pocket systems regardless of SoM20:01
NanoCodeBughramrach: i don't see rotation in the 2024-10-11b tag20:01
hramrachI see CONFIG_BOOTARGS="clk_ignore_unused cma=256M swiotlb=65535 fbcon=rotate:3"20:02
hramrachthere are multiple configs20:03
joschyes, i'm surprised it's not in 2024-10-11b then -- it should be20:04
joschon all pocket soms that is20:04
josch <= afk now for ~2 hours20:04
NanoCodeBugah my mad, i am clicking the wrong defconfig20:05
NanoCodeBug*my bad20:05
NanoCodeBugreform-check does say that its missing the bootarg20:06
NanoCodeBugi'll reflash a clean sd and see what happens, i have the image i originally download, it has a 10/30 modification date20:11
NanoCodeBugoctober 30th20:11
NanoCodeBugyeah both latest and the one from oct 30 both boot into rotated. either it does boot from the emmc first and then mounts the sd card as the boot partition - which i'm worried will result in the wrong partition being updated on kernel updates.20:21

NanoCodeBugthat doesn't seem the case though, the internal mmc has 6.11.4, the kernel reports its on 6.11.5 from the sd-card20:25
+ spew (~spew@135.233.119.40)20:26
NanoCodeBugit has to be using the flash.bin from the internal emmc, looking at the boot args in that file, that version does not have the rotation set. 20:33

+ chomwitt (~chomwitt@2a02:587:7a1a:7a00:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)20:36
NanoCodeBugI don't see this behavior documented anywhere - it should probably be noted that the bootloader has to be updated on the internal emmc 20:40

joschrk3588 will prefer u-boot on emmc20:55

+ ZylonMaster (~hjcs@ool-ad02e01f.dyn.optonline.net)21:13
ZylonMasterwonder if anyone knows how many pocket mnt reform, nonhypers are left to ship from crowdsupply?21:14
hramrachit's configurable in some way, but if the pins or whatever configures it are set to emmc then that's it. Technically it would be more secure if the u-boot did not load system from SD anyway but harder to recover21:22
hramrachwhen the SoC is directly connected to an USB port and not through a hub it's typically possible to load the system over USB as well when no other boot location works but that's unavailable with reform because it has hubs on the mainboard21:25
