reform12520hello, anyone running rk3588? I have mine stuck in external display mode and was curious if anyone has encountered that problem. I used a script to swap between external and internal display when I had the A311D module installed, and tried to run that script with this module, and now can't get output on my internal display. 04:59

megasquidHello. I can't get internal display to work on MNT Reform with RK3588, any advice? I had A311D prior and used some shell scripts with swaymsg to enable / disable HDMI & EDP. It seems the one to get the external display worked, but only after I rebooted my reform. Now I can't get the internal display shell script to work. I did try rebooting. A bit stumped. Tried the wlrandr commands from the05:21
megasquidcommunity thread on A311D external monitors too. A bit stumped. 05:21

AbortRetryFailminute: Sorry about your dad. Take care of yourself and your family. You've given us all darn near everything we need to fix our own computers while you're away. <313:36
AbortRetryFailmegasquid - can you start sway on the external display and pastebin the output of `swaymsg -t get_outputs` someplace?13:39
AbortRetryFailI don't have a RK3588 module in my Reform but I've dealt with Sway display shenanigans for years now.13:40
AbortRetryFailOh, nvm. I found teh thread.13:41

josch;3~14:36
grimmwareMy silicon nitride bearing for pocket reform trackball just showed up :) Like everyone else's reports the motion tracking of it is pretty unuseable so imma leave it for 24 hours and see if it oxidises!14:51
grimmwareit's nice that I feel I can just put it in my bag for my trip away this weekend and swap it out when I have a quiet moment14:52
grimmwaredon't even have to turn the pocket off to do that!14:53
joschsorry, that was not a smiley from me but my display pressing some of my keys while my reform was in my backpack...14:58
joschgrimmware, mhoye: tracking is a mixed bag so far14:59
joschsometimes (like right now) it's quite perfect14:59
joschbut then there are times where it's not14:59
joschi haven't yet managed to find out what makes the difference14:59
grimmwarejosch: are the dropouts particularly problematic?15:07
Twodisbetteramospalla: It seems like your script was already using brightness instead of dpms. Do I see that right? 15:12
joschgrimmware: yes, they are over 1-2 hours and then it's good again15:14
joschodd15:14
grimmwareyeesh15:14
grimmwareso what I'm hearing here is "keep the POM ball and a screwdriver handy if you're going out somewhere"15:15
joschno idea, maybe 24 hours wasn't enouh and it's fine starting now?15:19
joschit's fine right now15:19
amospallaTwodisbetter: yes, it does by setting brightness, so it was not dependent on any desktop or command.15:29
amospalla"swaymsg output dpms" works on sway and maybe on something else, but what about gnome, kde, being on a plain terminal console, etc? So I just set the brightness.15:30

- chomwitt (QUIT: Quit: WeeChat 3.8) (~chomwitt@2a02:587:7a1a:7a00:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)18:58
minutestaticbunny: maybe you're looking for `sudo modprobe i2c-dev`? but which i2c do you want to mess with?18:59
staticbunnymaybe? i have something connected to the i2c steema plug on the pocket mainboard19:00
staticbunnyit has power but i dont see anything in /dev/ and i2cdetect comes up with nothing19:00
minutestaticbunny: ahh, the qwiic one. this is connected to the system controller. grimmware has been hacking with that and not entirely sure but might have made a cpu SPI->sysctl I2C bridge?19:01
minutestaticbunny: that i2c is unfortunately not connected to the SoC19:01
minutestaticbunny: but to the rp2040 (system controller)19:01
staticbunnyah damn, is there one that is?19:01
staticbunnyalso, the system controller rp2040 mainly controls booting right? there is a seperate rp2040 for the keyboard which is /dev/hidraw019:03
minutestaticbunny: yes. have a look at the schematics, it might make things clearer19:04
minutestaticbunny: the rp2040 mainly controls power and charging19:04
staticbunnyah ok i thought there was two of them19:04
+ chomwitt (~chomwitt@2a02:587:7a1a:7a00:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)19:04
minutestaticbunny: yes, there's a second one in the keyboard19:04
staticbunnygotcha19:04
staticbunnyi was thinking it would be cool to have a little external display to control the keyboard using the buttons to pick prebuilt profiles for color and macros19:05
staticbunnyi also was going to try adding a hardware clock19:05
staticbunnysounds like i might need to jump through more hoops than i imagined if there isnt direct SoM access through i2c19:06
staticbunnyim also working on a new cover plate that better fits the rk3588 and has antenna slots19:07
ericsfraga,19:07
ericsfraga(apologies; keyboard noise)19:08
staticbunnyericsfraga, just blame the cat19:08
- ericsfraga (QUIT: Quit: ERC 5.6.1-git (IRC client for GNU Emacs 31.0.50)) (~user@2.28.216.133)19:08
minutestaticbunny: possibly we can set up a bridge in the system controller that forwards SoC->SPI->SysCtl->I2C, grimmware was playing with integrating accelerometer (gyro?) that way19:13
staticbunnyThat would be awesome. It would open up options for cool addons19:14
grimmwareYeah I’ve got it set up for the accelerometer and it works well, I can imagine we could do a generic proxy19:14
staticbunnygrimmware: are you using that to control hybernate?19:16
+ ericsfraga (~user@2.28.216.133)19:16
staticbunnywait. im looking at the schematics and there is already an RTC?19:17

grimmwareNo hibernate working in RK3588 that I know of but I’m using it to disable screen and keyboard backlight on lid closed and also rotate the screen when held in book orientation19:18
staticbunnyahh cool, i would like to use that too. I think i have a qwiic accel around here someplace19:19
grimmwareYou’ll need 2 of them!19:19
grimmwareI’ve been using the adafruit board with lis3dh19:19
+ chomwitt (~chomwitt@2a02:587:7a1a:7a00:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)19:20
staticbunnyDo you have your code up on github or someplace i can check it out?19:20
grimmwareI also have a bug to figure out that causes the keyboard to start doing weird shit sometimes. It’s a difficult one to get logs for and harder to reproduce but I’ve spent like, 0 time on it since the SPI refactor19:21
grimmwareYeah if you look under my username on source.mnt.re you’ll see the branches I’ve pushed for both reform-tools and pocket-reform19:22
grimmware(Sorry, on my phone at an airport bar right now)19:22
staticbunnyawesome, thank you19:23
grimmwareThere’s also the userland part which I’ve not put online yet to actually do the rotation and stuff.19:24
grimmwareIt needs refactoring tho cos I was initially just tailing the UART and getting values out that way.19:25
staticbunnyno worries, im more interested to see how you are forwarding everything at the moment. To see what my knowledge gap is19:26
staticbunnygrimmware: nice blog writeup <319:35
grimmwareThanks! It’s quite a lot more advanced than that now, just haven’t had time to write it up.19:42
staticbunnyyeah a lot of this is over my head. It looks like there is a serial port at j16. Maybe we just need another RP2040 just for peripheral's ;-p20:11
grimmwareIn unrelated positive news, nobody at airport security gave a shit about my pocket reform.20:24
