joschminute: i think/hope this might fix things: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-tools/-/merge_requests/95/diffs?commit_id=158619c53d9d3278fc1f0cbe2640e14e2a8f568d00:09
joschi would very much welcome if somebody affected by this could test this00:09
joschare you affected? type this to find out:00:10
joschfind /etc \( \! -type l \) -perm /o+w00:10
minutejosch: on my pocket reform, this doesn't yield any results00:11
joschgood00:11
joschon current system images, this lists quite a few things00:12
minutei get one result in /usr, /usr/share/reform-setup-wizard/reform-setup-sway-config00:12
minutebut i might have messed with that file on my device00:12
joschno, that's another affected file00:12
joschbut it's harmless and the file should probably be removed by the wizard after it's successful?00:13
minuteyeah it's not super critical00:13
minuteon my reform which has a kind of ancient-evolution system, no results in /etc00:13
minutejosch: do we know since when this is supposedly happening?00:15
joschminute: no, since this is not a property of the scripts but of the system running the scripts00:15
joschnamely, the default umask when doing the git clone00:15
minutehmm00:16
joschsimilarly, on the reform-system-image size, this should be the fix: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-system-image/-/merge_requests/113/diffs?commit_id=9e52f30d4a0b59e212d015e364fe7890a3c4b6db00:17
minutejosch: feel free to merge!00:20
minutejosch: does it make sense to also add the find oneliner as a test case at the end?00:21
joschyeah, i need to merge the reform-syste-image change before the reform-tools changes or otherwise the reform-tools changes will mask the problems in reform-system-image :)00:21
joschminute: that's already part of the same MR00:21
joschsorry it is not00:21
joschit's already in main: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-system-image/-/commit/92142307557722b2d5d2cce1edba28505dbe868d00:21
minutejosch: nice!00:22
josch(and obviously made the build fail 17 hours ago)00:22
joschi was already at it yesterday00:23
joschbut then other life stuff got in the way... :/00:23
minutei see :3 well no problem, thanks for putting all the effort into this00:23
joschsorry for the mess... :/00:23
minutenp!00:24
joschminute: could you enable the gitlab CI pipeline for https://source.mnt.re/hramrach/reform-tools00:24
joschit seems that gitlab does not show me a merge button if there is no successful pipeline result...00:25

hramrachjosch: I think o-r for etc/skel is superfluous08:59
hramrachnote that the default parmissions are readable for all ... except .bash_history, .config, .cache, and .local which are only readable to the user. Sounds like this needs more nuanced approach than making everything the same permissions. There are some permission-fixing tools already which are used to align directory tree parmissions with some configuration09:01
hramracheg. chkstat09:04
hramrachhenesy: not relly, there are the differences from the DEbian config, and the built packages that have the resulting config09:06
hramrachhttps://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/blob/main/linux/config?ref_type=heads09:08
joschhramrach: superfluous as in "not necessary" or as in "actually harmful"?09:33
hramrachjosch: 09:54
hramrachIt maybe annoying for users not to see the configuration unless using sudo09:54

joschhramrach: valid point. I just tested this and it looks like when running adduser, the permission bits are 1:1 copied into the new user's $HOME. So if they are world readable in /etc/skel, they will be marked as world readable in the newly created $HOME directory as well.10:28
joschhramrach: would you consider that a problem?10:28
hramrachjosch: depends on the file. Most of the files in /etc/skel as well as home directories default to world-readable. Only select files have tighter permissions, and these should generally not be distributed through /etc/skel.'10:40
hramrachsome distributions provide chkstat or similar tool 'profiles' to switch beteeen more permissive and more paraniod permissions across the system which would likely affect /etc/skel as well10:41
joschhramrach: when you say "most of the files in /etc/skel default to world-readable" what do you mean? who sets that default?10:41
+ mjw (~mjw@gnu.wildebeest.org)10:42
joschjust last year it seems that debian switched to a tighter default umask (via pam) with 002 for the normal user and 022 for root10:42
joschhrm.. i cannot find the chkstat tool in debian10:43

hramrachumask 002/022 is not particularly tight, that results in 664/644. What did they use prior to that?10:47
joschi'm unsure10:47
hramrachas in world readable is the defualt anyway, and aligns with permissions generally observed on Linux distributions10:48
joschthank you, i think you convinced me10:48
joschlets not remove the world-readable bit10:48

grimmwareI've noticed over the last 24 hours or so that the pocket is reporting the wrong (lower) battery percentage in waybar. Whenever I check on the sysctl it's correct, and it always goes back. I wonder if this is just a sampling thing and it's periodically just reporting the wrong thing in /sys14:33
grimmwareI am not imminently about to debug this because it's not *that* annoying but I figured I'd mention it in case it triggers a lightbulb moment for someone14:33

hramrachthe capping only avoids fast changes. The full range should be traversed over about 10 readings, which would be within a minute or so depending on the waybar polling frequency14:39

hramrachso you have the suspected problem that the readings are sometimes 0 which I could not confirm with the patch14:49
hramrachinteresting14:49
hramrachAnd I am runninng some previous snapshot of your firmware, too14:49
xhaminute: i have booted openbsd on the pocket reform and now i have the same problem with ethernet lmao. one question: you set the gpio to active low in the device tree: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-rk3588-uboot/-/blob/main/rk3588-mnt-pocket-reform.dts?ref_type=heads#L20315:47
xhahowever, not for this gpioset? https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-tools/-/blob/1d16a3cf1e455b07e6a9df5963388bda1c7e4a09/sbin/reform-hw-setup#L5515:47
xhait would need the -l ("--active-low") flag15:48
xhais there any documentation on how the reset should actually work? i could not find anything, but i am also not good for looking out for this kind of stuff :D15:48
minutexha: the main thing that i discovered later is that you need to set the gmac clock to output, not input (the 125mhz clock)16:18
minutexha: in that gpioset i use -t for toggle16:23
minutexha: so it goes like 1,0,116:24
