midfavilahey question for you guys03:19
midfaviladoes anyone else notice the screws on the reform tend to wiggle free now and again?03:19
midfavilaive had screws on the main box, the display module, the underside, and even a few inside the main box come completely loose and start rattling around03:20
midfavilamain concern is the internal screws03:20
midfaviladon't want them to end up accidentally shorting anything03:20
joschmidfavila: yes, you need loctite03:22
midfavilacool i'll add some to the list then03:23
midfavilarn they're all just held in with a small piece of electrical tape lmao03:24
joschmidfavila: minute brought up nylon dispensed screws as the long-term solution to the issue03:28
midfavilathat would also work03:30

swivelso one thing about my reform which locks up during long uptimes when mostly idle - I'm still running off the SD card, haven't gotten around to transitioning to the internal flash06:16
swivelare there any known stability problems running of SD?  does the SD port do any power saving stuff when idle by chance?06:16
- jacobk (QUIT: Ping timeout: 276 seconds) (~quassel@2601:380:837f:3520:1113:1c75:8d3b:2220)06:54
joschswivel: not really -- and if it would, linux does very specific things when mounted (even the rootfs) storage devices suddenly stop working -- hard freezes is  not what it does08:11
swiveljosch: ah08:40
minutethe lockup thing sounds like a semi recent kernel regression? i hadn't heard reports of this like half a year ago or a year ago10:29
minutedid sigrid's register tweaking have an effect?10:29
swivelminute: the lockup thing has been a problem ever since I received my reform (imx8)10:32
swiveli hope it's not defective hw... I doubt it is since others seem to have experienced the same thing10:33
swivelmine just sits powered on 24x7 as a terminal server I mostly access via ssh.  It's problematic when it locks up since I'm usually using it when out of office via vpn to reach the consoles of embedded devices on my desk10:35
joschswivel: and if i remember correctly, you do not have any console blanking, so your screen is permanently on and thus it cannot be the dpms issue10:37
minuteswivel: when did you receive it?10:38
minutewe have an imx8mq reform in the office that has literally years of uptime10:38
minuteand never froze10:38
minutebut also the kernel wasn't updated in a long time310:39
minutethat one doesn't have wifi and doesn't have batteries and has a trackpad and keyboard v2 :D10:39
minute(it's connected via ethernet)10:39
swiveljosch: that's correct10:41
swivelminute: Shipped Apr 08, 2024 PDT10:43
swivelfrom CS10:43
swiveli use the wired ethernet, it has the atheros card from CS installed but never used it10:45
swiveljosch: actually I think nowadays I stopped disabling the console blanking because it didn't seem to prevent the lockups to go out of my way to disable it and all the dpms stuff10:46
swivelbut i'll have to check... it's been awhile since I used it via the keyboard+display10:47
swivelbeyond circle key interactions to force a reboot10:48
minuteswivel: so your kernel is probably more recent then. also, try removing the wifi card10:52

jfredHuh. I made a few other design mistakes with my custom backplate that I need to fix with another run, but I just held it up to the back of my Pocket and it doesn't seem to impact wifi signal strength much at all? Maybe the screen side is unimpeded and that's enough23:05
jfredNow I'm considering leaving the full copper layer on the front in the next run for more heat dissipation if it's not gonna be a problem for wifi...23:22
jfredGuess I should test mobile data too though huh23:22
grimmwareOkay I ran into the Apple charger issue, haven't tried the patch yet but it turns out I had another PD charger in my bag that works23:25
jfredOh never mind I see a post from minute on the forums saying you'd stick the LTE antenna onto the non-copper part of the backplate. Guess I should rework that part after all haha23:25
grimmwarewhich is lucky because the rest of my belongings went away in a van today :P23:25
jfredgrimmware: good thing, I had to order one that would work haha 23:41
grimmwareI think I might have been well prepared for once23:44
grimmwarethis keyboard is delightful to have on a laptop23:44
grimmwareI love the system controller menu23:45
