chartreuseI also found turning the DAC Deemphasis on help a little too to take off the harsh of the highs. Especially since the volume can be a bit louder now to make up for losing some. 00:05
chartreuseThough need to find a way to toggle it with the headphones, since it makes them sound worse00:05

chartreuseUnrelated, does the stock keyboard firmware update the battery status page if left open, or am I still running one of my custom forks. I should push that change if not.00:27
chartreuseWasn't there also a RP2040 version of the keyboard before the v3 now? Or was that just the trackball00:27
chartreuseKinda tempted to mess with the controller there again00:28
minutechartreuse: the current stock fw updates the battery page.01:13
minutechartreuse: the rp2040 version of the kbd wasn't finished, but found its way into pocket reform, and into the reform trackball01:14
minutechartreuse: but i'm gonna work on a rp2040 version of the reform keyboard (for the next) with rgb backlight etc01:14

photomattmillshaving an issue hooking up to serial on the reform mini. The PCB/schematic seems to have one pinout and the handbook has another, but I can't get either to work05:52
photomattmillsanybody know which is correct?05:53
joschchartreuse: yes, same firmware but compiled with -DKBD_VARIANT_3 instead of -DKBD_VARIANT_205:58
joschphotomattmills: what usb uart adapter are you using?05:59
photomattmillssparkfun ftdi basic06:02
photomattmillsI'm using jumpers to the pins on the pocket06:02
chartreuseKinda an odd request, but a feature that could be a neat addition to a Next motherboard would be using some of the extra gpio pins from the CPU socket and interfacing to a micro like a RP2040 for just general purpose hacking an peripheral interfacing, with something like a 0.1" pin header for breakout from it. Kinda like how there's currently a breakout of the LPCs extra GPIOs to the "hack the 06:19
chartreuseplanet" connector. But without the risk of programming the LPC which controlls battery charging06:19
chartreuseOr at very least break out some of the non-connected pins that map to GPIOs or such to pads so that peripherals can be hacked on rather than soldering to the connectors pins directly06:19

photomattmillsin the manual, pin one is UART2_TX, on the board and schematic (and in pcbnew) it's gnd. I assume the board is the correct setup?06:34
chartreuseI don't have a pocket, but if you have a multimeter you can check which pin is ground and then work from there, the schematic is likely correct as it's from the sources used to build the boards06:37
photomattmillsyeah, I think this uart adapter might be toast, I'm not getting anything. although it shows up in /dev and tio connects to it06:41
photomattmillsok, tried another adapter in both the board pinouts and the manual ones, still nothing.07:08
photomattmills115200 baud, right?07:08
photomattmillschecked with multimeter, pin 1 is gnd for sure.07:19
photomattmillsok, verified both serial adapters are working by hooking them together and opening both in different terminals, they're talking to each other fine. hrm.07:29

minutehenesy: oh, it says cells missing: 6, i.e. something is wrong with 6 cells at least21:19
minutehenesy: and actually all of the cells show as 5.3V which means that they're not there/faulty21:19
minutehenesy: are these protected battery boards?21:20
minutejosch: no not integrated. but the hdmi connector on the motherboard is exactly the same spec as the one on rcm4 and rcore. so you can route the module's regular HDMI to the internal display if you want21:22
joschah funky :D21:26
joschmidfavila: for me the big reform has the advantage of more volume for hacks as well as the trackball. The reform next, for me, has the advantage of (potentially) multi-chemistry charging (allowing li-ion cells) as well as more flexible ports on the sides (but i do not know enough to make use of this myself). usb-c charging is something i already do with the big reform -- so i think "half as many 21:30
joschfeatures" are a bit of an exaggeration :)21:30
minutehello from reform next!21:37
vkoskivHello!21:37

mtmneat!21:38
mtmI'm excited about the server version (I'll have a spare original SoM once my rk3588 arrives, would be perfect for a small server)21:40
minutenice!21:40
mtmwill Reform Server (place holder, I'm sure you'll come up with a better name) be available without a SoM?21:41
minutemtm: yep!21:41
mtmsweet!21:41
minutei think one package would be just the case, and another with motherboard, and another with motherboard + module21:42
minutebut also, i plan that we have additional "storeys" on top for mounting battery boards or a pcie card21:42
mtmbtw, I did manage to get a scope on pin 29 on the RP2040 in my Pocket: pressing a key on row 6 (mouse keys) does not take the line to ground, but rather about half-way there (still see the pulse train but at half voltage).  That would explain why that row isn't working but I haven't looked into why its behaving that way21:46
mtmah, so some sort of vertical connector to support the "stories"21:48
gsorahi reform next!!22:07
gsoradid you manage to troubleshoot that pcie issue?22:07
midfavilajosch i was mostly being silly :p22:08
joschmidfavila: :D22:09
midfavilai've actually considered maybe trying to make a larger version of the standard reform, myself22:09
joschlarger than the reform?22:09
midfavilai saw someone on the clockworkpi forms managed to cram two extra sets of 18650s in their uconsole and that kinda made me want to take a stab at adding more batteries to the reform22:09

midfavila:p22:10
midfavilai'm used to carrying around a 12lb laptop22:10
midfavilahelps squeeze in some gains when i can't get into the gym ig idk22:10
midfavilaseeing if i could cram in some stuff for old SATA peripherals would be nice too but my hardware skills are like22:11
midfavilaalmost nonexistent 22:11
midfavilaone time i soldered an SD card slot on a WRT54gs and then i made a cantenna and that's about it lmao22:12

Manisminute: really cool to see ongoing work on the next. Looking very much forward to it!22:20
minuteManis: thanks!22:22
minutegsora: no, for pcie issue i'm gonna make another spin with more attention paid to SI, esp intra diff pair matching22:22
gsoraminute: i see! well it’s still great to see next alive and irc’ing, hopefully you’ll be able to find the issue22:28
chartreusejosch: rounded corners so your palms don't get stabbed by the sharp corners of the normal reform :P22:51
chartreuseWith the motherboard right under the palm rest port, is the reform next only going to have touchpad options? Or is it using the much smaller trackball from the pocket?22:52
minutechartreuse: so far only touchpad, but one could probably make a keyboard that has the tiny trackball in place of the middle space key22:58
chartreuseRelated to the trackball, learned about ZrO2 bearings which some people use to upgrade even the ruby bearings in commerical trackballs, so got some of those on the way from aliexpress in 2.5mm size, will have to see how they compare to the 2.5mm steel ones23:11
chartreuseCould even get a 25mm one, but that'd be expensive and not sure how well it'd even work as the main ball. 23:16
