ex-parrotwriting up these notes... can someone confirm that in the default "ON" position of the SoM boot switch it will try to boot from SD only, and with the switch off it'll look at SD then eMMC in that order? How does USB factor in to this?11:44
ex-parrotI'm yet to try USB booting my Reform11:45
joschex-parrot: maybe this contains the information you need? https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-handbook/-/issues/211:47
joschin summary, the SoM switch only controls where the u-boot binary is loaded from. But the choice from where kernel/initrd/dtb come is up to the loaded u-boot (independent from where it was loaded from).11:48
ex-parrotperfect, thanks, I will link this in my notes11:49
ex-parrotI am writing some notes for a person with some Debian experience on x86 to note the major differences, and also where we are at with the installer process currently11:49

minutejosch: about the bodge, it's only something that came to mind, it is not necessarily the root cause20:18
noamwoo, m2x8 from local hardware store was good enough to hold the NVMe drive in place :D20:19
noama bit big, but apparently not too much? which is good20:20
noambecause the hot glue fell off lmao20:20
+ vagrantc (~vagrant@2600:3c01:e000:21:7:77:0:50)20:36
minutenoam: in pocket reform? :320:51
noamminute: I don't have pocket reform :P20:56
minuteoh :D20:56
noamI have been very clear about my intent to keep it that way lmao20:56
noambecause if I slip I am going to buy one and I really shouldn't lol20:56
minuteahhh that's why my memory was all confused!20:56
minuteit only saved the association of noam and pocket reform, but not qualified20:57
noamminute: when I fixed my reform, I couldn't find the m.2 screw20:57
noamso I hot glued the nvme drive in place lmao20:57
minuteaw20:57
noamthat came loose a few days ago, and about a day later the drive popped out and I couldn't boot :P20:57
noamhit up the hardware store and went "m.2 means 2mm screw, right?" and was apparently correct lol20:57
minutefun story :D21:02
- skipwich (QUIT: Ping timeout: 256 seconds) (~skipwich@user/skipwich)21:07
noamLost one of the bottom screws in the process >_<21:18
joschnoam: be prepared to loose them all unless you add some loctite or similar21:22
joschmy reform even has the screws in the screen and keyboard bezel replaced (in addition to those holding the bottom acrylic) because one by one they all fell out at one point or the other without my noticing21:23
noamjosch: none of them have ever come out for me before21:24
noami lost it on the floor lol21:24
noamwell okay, one of the _internal_ screws came out at one point :/21:24
noamthat's what fried the first iMX board21:24
joschoh no :(21:24
joschi had internal screws come out three times already21:24
joschlucky for me they were only rolling around on the bottom acrylic...21:24
joschfriends then had to help me open up the reform without turning it around first XD21:25
minutewe should really offer a bag of those new nylok-like screws we use for pocket...21:30
joschmaybe but there also seem not to be many reports of people who had a screw loose -- seems to be mostly me21:32
joschand i got mine now fixed with a bit of loctite21:32
noami had loctite but it exploded in my kitchen lol21:33
joscho021:35
noamoops21:35
jfredjosch: I've had it happen to me on numerous occasions23:05
jfredIf it's easy enough to get some of those nylon screws I might have to do that23:05
joschjfred: i had a heard time finding nylon screws in small quantities23:14
