minutejosch: it will cool through coupling to the bottom of the case00:55
joschminute: would there be space on the mainboard for mounting holes such that the reform 2 coolers can be attached -- that way the reform next motherboard could be used inside the reform 2 even though the cooling would be different :)00:57

minutejosch: there are a bunch of additional challenges for using the mobo in reform2, it needs to be thought as a whole... but yep, good point01:12

joschminute: mechanically? electronically, stuff like display and keyboard should be compatible with the reform next parts, right?01:14
minutejosch: the reform next has no connectors to the outside and a different power system01:17
minutesorry, reform next motherboard01:17
joschyes, the side-panels would need to be re-designed of course01:18
joschwith the opportunity to add a full-size ethernet plug :)01:19
minutei think the next motherboard as it is would be quite a mess of cables in classic reform01:20
joschi'm already wondering how it is not a mess of cables in the next :D01:20
joschseeing the amount of connectors on the side-panel board designs you posted on fedi01:20
minuteit will be but the mess will be hidden under the keyboard01:20
joschah sure :)01:20
joschand no transparent bottom acrylic :)01:21
minutealso, i might join some of the fpc connectors together later...01:21
minuteexactly :D01:21
joschpotentially allowing different battery chemistries for the charger sounds like a killer feature01:21
minuteit might make more sense to back port the reform next tech to at least part of the classic mobo form factor01:22
minutehave one port side fixed to it and the other modular perhaps...01:22
joschhrm... maybe... i think i really like the flexibility of separating the components, making them exchangable instead of having everything on one big board01:22
minutebut idk yet. first i want to focus on what's best for the next 01:23
joschof course :)01:23
minuteit's hard to think about every component in a multiverse of other form factors01:23
joschit's exciting to see your progress reports :)01:23

ex-parrotjosch: it is a laptop sadly(?) I've just had the lid shut 10:10

ex-parrotso I haven't actually run the "official" unofficial debian installer image yet, I Think10:15
ex-parrotI need to do some backups first though, this might not actually happen until tomorrow night at this rate10:16

joschpandora: you know how to get the system image manually?10:32
pandorano not yet...going a bit through the manual rn since i got the pocket since yesterday10:32
ex-parrotmy boss is currently building a Pocket Reform and is at the "cutting down normal sized Kailh choc keycaps on the mill to fit the spacing"10:33
joschpandora: oh nice! let us know of any issues you find :)10:33
ex-parrotbut it's going well I think :)10:33
joschpandora: here is the link to the latest image: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-system-image/-/jobs/4529/artifacts/browse10:34
ex-parrotmy backup isn't going to finish in a reasonable timeframe I think, catch you all tomorrow10:34
pandorai kinda started a list on my laptop already :D10:34
pandorashould we report issues here first or rather as a forum post?10:35
joschpandora: either works :)10:36
pandorathere is for example a weird bug with the reform help. if i start the help on the pocket and then want to e.g. open the System. Monitor from the Menu too it doesn't work. All the commands get queued up and not get executed until the "help window" is closed again. That confused me quite a bit yesterday since it appears nothing works. I guess the menu item is some kind of shell script and just missing a " &" at the end?10:38

ephaseI don't think so because I have CPU and Memory on my waybar, all become red when full 23:08
ephaseCPU was red by the way23:08
joschephase: how often per second does that update?23:08
joschit could be that memory is allocated too fast for your waybar to update23:09
joschwith htop you see progression of memory use at reasonable intervals23:09
ephasemaybe, but keyboard backlight and OLED screed go off then on again23:09
joschephase: if it's a thermal issue (could be) you might want to try re-seating your heatsink23:09
ephaseI don't have any issue apart compiling this font (with a lot of SVG file to process and export)23:10
+ chomwitt (~chomwitt@2a02:587:7a19:9600:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)23:11
joschephase: try the following: tell nix to only utilize one core and see if your build succeeds23:11
joschephase: if it does, build with one core and run "stress -c 5" to test the "it's gettig too hot" hypothesis23:12
joschor run "stress -c 6" now immediately to test it23:12
ephaseI kill the build seeing how hot was A311D, it didn't  fail23:14
ephaseI was afraid breaking my CPU23:14
