violetthe energy efficiency thing is part of why im hoping my soquartz work pays off02:54
violetsince the rk 3566 is on a newer process node than the iMX02:55
violetim also curious how much mileage you could get out of disabling the P-cores on the rk3588 though02:55
violetand just using the 4 efficiency cores02:55
violeti think you could get a lot out of just telling linux not to schedule anything on them02:56
violetwhich maybe would make it something you could automate based on whether you're plugged in or on battery02:57

ex--parrotI had a brief panic last night thinking the GPU in my Reform was going bad05:55
ex--parrotbut I'd just accidentally booted the upstream Bookworm ARM64 kernel05:55
ex--parrotand it worked astoninshingly well! but the display was a bit flickery05:55
* ex--parrot -> ex-parrot05:58
ex-parrotalso interestingly I observed my PineNote with the RK3566 drawing about 1 watt with the backlight on last night05:58
ex-parrotwhich is pretty good I think05:58

violetthat does sound pretty good07:35
violeti signed up for the mnt gitlab. my account is in queue for manual activation by an admin08:54
violetalso i realized something about how i got the wrong cable. the part number is actually correct in the BOM, but that part isn't stocked. digikey does not have it in their database, mouser has it as "non-stocked" and no product photo. so i think what happened is that i was searching for it and could not find it. so i tried google, thinking maybe the store's search was broken, and the 30pin came up since 09:08
violetthat one is stocked. i tried it out because the hardware section said 30-pin but that is false09:08
violetbut basically that means the bom is not really "wrong" per-se, its just that at least in the U.S., the 50mm-long variant is not stocked anywhere, only the 100 and 150mm are09:09
violetim not sure whether it makes sense to change the part number in that case, like whether the handbook would prefer it changed or left alone09:10

[tj]grimmware: I *think* I can set it up to do time sliced development15:41
[tj]if I manage that, then I can definitely get at least some of the time porting freebsd paid for 15:42
grimmwareNice16:00
joschminute: the reform next keyboard will probably be compatible with reform 2 and the standalone keyboard?17:24
minutejosch: probably17:25
joschnice :)17:25
joschone of my long term projects is to learn enough so that i can send my own custom pcb to pcbway or similar and get it manufactured and populated -- but with the reform next on the horizon, i might just wait until its keyboard pcb is released before investing the time and money into such a project17:26
josch(would be a shame if the result would not be compatible with reform next)17:26
minutejosch: cool! i'll be there for any pcb making related questions!18:50

joschminute: thanks! <321:12
joschdoes somebody know a good introduction video explaining kicad basics?21:12
joschi already watched some -- i'm mostly interested in those explaining how to edit existing circuits and what i then need to upload to services like pcbway21:15
josch(or equivalent service)21:15
chartreuseFor uploading the services themselves usually have a page explaining how to export from KiCAD and what settings they want you to use21:19
joschchartreuse: thank you, i found those instructions now. For me this is probably like others look at wanting to do their first debian package. Very steep learning curve, a tiny bit wrong makes the whole thing fail and all the terminology is new. :D21:26
chartreuseThey're usually quite forgiving in the settings even, and if they're wrong the manufacturers will reach out to you and usually are quite helpful too21:27

Zabafor what it’s worth https://aisler.net/ has been getting a lot better recently for PCBs made in Europe 23:48
