joschminute: how high on your priority list is a wireless pocket reform keyboard? i read on fedi that it's pretty easy to convert a pocket reform keyboard into standalone mode and there seem to be various options of dongles that turn usb keyboards into bluetooth keyboards, like this one: http://handheldsci.com/kb/12:50
joschadafruit also has one: https://www.adafruit.com/product/153512:51
- mjw (QUIT: Ping timeout: 252 seconds) (~mjw@gnu.wildebeest.org)12:51
joschand i'm tempted to start tinkering into that direction...12:51
* Guest4083 -> mjw13:01
minutejosch: guess what, i just installed "img2pdf" to convert the image for our pocket reform poster... and saw that you're the author :D13:03
sigridimagemagick's convert can also do that, unless I'm misunderstanding what img2pdf means13:05
minutesigrid: i know, but i wanted something more convenient13:06
minute> Losslessly convert raster images to PDF without re-encoding PNG, JPEG, and JPG200013:07
minutei'm not sure if convert does it without re-encoding13:07
minutejosch: i met with ana on monday and we planned her next industrial design work, so the pipeline is like: 0. some reform next changes, 1. compact cases (3d printed and aluminum/...) for reform and pocket reform motherboards, 2. pocket reform standalone case (but not wireless yet, so these adapters come in handy, 3. mnt mouse, 4. ???13:12
joschsigrid: the reason i wrote img2pdf was, that there didn't exist any software which was able to convert raster graphics to pdf without loosing information. If you know other software that can convert images to pdf and give the lossless guarantee i'd love to hear it. Maintaining img2pdf is quite a bit of work. XD13:18
joschminute: wow, what a roadmap!!13:19
joschi'm very interested in standalone non-laptop cases for reform motherboards13:21
minutethought so :D13:37
erleminute do you know what the first switches were that the standalone keyboard used at the beginning? “Kailh Choc Brown (Tactile)” right?13:48
sigridjosch: http://okturing.com/src/19874/body13:52
sigridnote: you don't need to actually convert to ppm, most likely13:54
sigridI just tried a random png and the image contents are equal as well13:54
joschsigrid: sure, img2pdf just automates in one script for multiple formats what you do with mutool13:57
minuteerle: yep https://mntre.com/reform2/handbook/hardware.html#replacing-a-keyswitch13:59
erleminute thanks!14:00

jfredHow big of a USB-C power supply do you need to power the Pocket Reform?17:17
minutejfred: needs to supply more than 5V, optimally 20V. wattage doesn't matter that much17:22
minuteit would be possible to charge from 5V but that requires some adjustments to firmware17:23

minutejfred: yeah17:58
jfredExcellent. Was looking into picking up one of these and was curious if I could charge the Pocket off it - sounds like yes :) https://www.ryobitools.com/products/details/4639603535618:00

minutejosch: i have tested this kernel package/system image on imx8mq-mnt-reform2, imx8mp-mnt-reform2 and imx8mp-mnt-pocket-reform, so i think it's safe to merge, which i'll do19:38
minuteon imx8mp-mnt-reform2 even connecting a displayport monitor via a passive adapter to the eDP port works without changes :D19:38

mlarkinhi, any pocket reform shipping news?19:52

+ reform3700 (~root@216.197.221.29)20:08
reform3700hey all, just got my reform in the mail the other day20:08
reform3700just wanted to pop in if lukas or the mnt team monitor the channel and say that you guys really knocked it out of the park20:09
reform3700reform feels super great in the hand. just... really sturdy. i've got no real complaints (other than my personal preference for tactile over linear switches but i suppose that's what we have schematics for right?)20:10
reform3700i did want to ask if anyone runs their reform off the emmc on the original imx8 though. i ran a quick search online and didn't see anything pop up in the manual and i'll admit to not having much (read: any) experience with non-PC platforms, so i wanted to ask before doing something stupid20:11
reform3700apologies in advance if said info is available somewhere and i missed it20:12
minutemlarkin: we shipped 40 devices so far, probably 50 more next week20:13
minutereform3700: thank you very much for the feedback, happy you like the device!20:20
minutereform3700: you can move to emmc with the reform-migrate command20:20
- jacobk (QUIT: Ping timeout: 260 seconds) (~quassel@47-186-80-125.dlls.tx.frontiernet.net)20:21
reform3700okay, cool. i did see that, i just wanted to double check. there's a DIP under the SoM that you have to switch to OFF to boot from emmc too right?20:21
minutereform3700: it depends how old/new that imx8mq som is... it used to be that way, the newer ones can _only_ boot from emmc anyway20:27
minuteso i would suggest to try the migrate first20:27
minuteand see if it boots without sd card, if not, toggle switch20:28
reform3700i think this is the older model20:28
reform3700i ordered it off crowdsupply20:28
reform3700(i have to admit that that choice was 'cause i specifically wanted the imx8mq and it wasn't on the mnt storefront...)20:28
reform3700but yeah i'll give it a shot 20:29
reform3700once i'm home anyway20:29
reform3700i'm stuck at work rn and i forgot to bring my tools20:29
reform3700"i won't want to play with my new toy when i have work to do", i said to myself, before promptly trying to mess around with things20:30
reform3700good decisions all around really20:30
