swivelhm I just realized I still haven't received my printed reform handbook from CS09:41
joschin case somebody has an imx8mq reform with kernel before 6.8 and wants to help, here is a fixed command to run:10:11
joschfind /sys/devices/platform/soc*/ -wholename '*/tty/ttymxc*/power/wakeup'10:11
- chomwitt (QUIT: Ping timeout: 260 seconds) (~chomwitt@2a02:587:7a21:2700:1ac0:4dff:fedb:a3f1)10:22

AbortRetryFailI think mine is before 6.8, but it seems to have done the LPC freakout and discharge all the batteries thing again. I'll boot it up later when I won't wake anyone with the noise from opening it to remove the batteries.10:59
joschAbortRetryFail: thank you!! <311:04
joschwhat lpc freakout is it that you are experiencing?11:04
AbortRetryFailhard to say without powering it back up, but I suspect it woke up in the bag, turned the regulators on, then discharged because the LPC has to hold the regulators *off* for it not to11:05
AbortRetryFailno i dont have protected battery boards yet. maybe that's the next piece of work for this machine.11:06
joschthe battery boards indeed add some peace of mind :)11:06
joschAbortRetryFail: I improved the command to try a tiny bit more:11:08
joschfind /sys/devices/platform/soc@0/30800000.bus/308?0000.serial/ -wholename '*/tty/ttymxc?/power/wakeup'11:08
AbortRetryFailTbh if there's one aspect of this thing I'd like redesigned, it's that. Requiring a computer to be running, even a tiny one, in order to *not* damage things I think is a mistake. It makes fail-safe not possible.11:08
AbortRetryFailnot that this is unique to the Reform. Lots of things these days fail-stupid and destroy their own battery. The HP laptop I have from before is worse.11:09
josch+1 -- i'd also like a physical *off* switch11:10
AbortRetryFail:)11:11
joschminute: maybe for the reform next? :)11:11
AbortRetryFailIdk maybe I can bodge a hard off switch on to mine with some creative solder surgery11:12
minuteswivel: CS doesn't have any stock of the book according to my records11:28
minuteswivel: when did you buy it? can you forward all order info etc to us at support@mntre.com?11:28
minuteAbortRetryFail: this mistake _is_ fixed with the protected battery boards11:49
minuteand we integrated it in production laptops as soon as we had it11:50

joschminute: but the pocket reform has a hardware switch that physically disconnects the battery for when you store it somewhere for a longer time if i remember correctly?13:03

+ robin (~robin@user/terpri)13:10
- q66 (QUIT: Ping timeout: 272 seconds) (~q66@q66.moe)13:55
AbortRetryFailYeah, the protected boards don't stop it from draining dead when unused, they just stop the cells from over-discharge. :)14:08
AbortRetryFailI want an off switch. 14:08
AbortRetryFailLuckily that's pretty easy to bodge.14:08
+ q66 (~q66@q66.moe)14:09
joschAbortRetryFail: is it? where would you modify what?14:34
AbortRetryFailOff the cuff guess: in series with the battery fuse F214:58
AbortRetryFailI'd need to study the circuit more carefully to be sure the balancing circuit isn't going to do anything dumb and also discharge the other cells though.15:00

joschfirst four minutes of this video are my lightning talk about the software on the MNT Reform on the MiniDebConf Berlin: https://saimei.ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/debian-meetings/2024/MiniDebConf-Berlin/45-lightning-talks.lq.webm15:09
AbortRetryFailACTION 👀15:13
AbortRetryFailoh that's cool i didn't know you got reproducible builds!15:18
AbortRetryFailjosch: https://paste.debian.net/1317887/15:26
minuteAbortRetryFail: a series off switch works only if you have MB 2.515:37
AbortRetryFailwhich i do not, bummer.15:38
swivelminute: sure, it was april 7th, ordered together with my reform... when they shipped everything april 9th, the email said "items not yet shipped: mnt reform handbook qty 1"16:53
swivelminute: but then i never heard anything again16:54
swivelsent16:56
minuteswivel: can you send this incl CS order number to support@mntre.com? we'll then reach out internally and clarify17:01
minutemaybe they'll want to stock up on handbooks...17:01
minutethe good thing is we made a whole new version of that17:01
swivelminute: I forwarded the "Subject: Re: [no-reply@crowdsupply.com: Your Crowd Supply order (212208) has shipped!] (#3936)17:02
swivelminute: will you be offering the newer SoC variants in reforms through crowdsupply?17:03
minuteswivel: yes, we already sent 50 cm4-bpis to crowd supply17:07
swivelcool!17:14
swiveli don't see any way to pick SoC variant when buying via https://www.crowdsupply.com/mnt/reform17:15
minuteswivel: it's not implemented on their side yet17:16
swivelgotcha17:16
swiveli'd rather order from you directly, but CS seems like a reasonable way for me to avoid the import taxes17:21
joschAbortRetryFail: perfect, thank you!!17:29
