mhoyeThat fails for me; it expects the device to have a sane partition table already00:33
joschmhoye: can you show me the error message you get?00:34
+ jacobk (~quassel@utdpat241106.utdallas.edu)00:40
mhoyeFirst error is "wrong fs type" after "this script selects your preferred boot medium."00:45
joschmhoye: could you run the script with sh -x in front and then send the output into a pastebin and show the link here?00:46
mhoyeThat'll be a challenge, I'm booting this off an SD card that doesn't seem to admit the existence of network hardware.00:47
joschit does not?00:48
joschyou definitely should have ethernet00:48
joschwhat wifi card do you use?00:48
mhoyeWhichever one came in the box.00:48
joschyou could send the output to a file and then copy the file off of the sd-card00:48
joschthat wifi card should work out-of-the box00:48
mhoyeYeah, lots of "should works" on my desk right now.00:49
joscha "wrong fs type" error sounds like a mount command failed00:49
joschi'd need to know which one00:49
mhoyehmmm. If I'm reading the reform-flash-rescue script right, it's basically blowing the decompressed recovery image straight into /dev/mmcblk0?00:54
mhoyeOh, I might have screwed this up by offsetting the image when I tried this 00:54
joschyes, it just copies the image to /dev/mmcblk0 and then adjusts /etc/fstab and initramfs inside00:55
joschhow did you "offset" the image?00:55
mhoyeI've got that image around, let me just try that first. 00:56
mhoyeI had a seek option last time I used it.00:56
joschokay, if you do it manually, make sure to run the following after your dd is done:00:57
josche2label /dev/mmcblk0p1 reformemmcboot00:57
josche2label /dev/mmcblk0p2 reformemmcroot00:57
joschreform-boot-config --emmc emmc00:57
mhoyeGot it. 00:57
mhoye"12 MB/s" 00:58
mhoyeComputers are never fast enough.00:58
joschmhoye: maybe you want to try 9front on the reform -- it's much smaller and i heard it runs really well :)01:17
joschminute: i identified the problem with gstreamer, filed a bug (#1051904) and disabled the build in reform-debian-packages until the bug is fixed01:40
joschnow bedtime for me :)01:40

joschhappened to me as well09:05
joschi now have a few spares09:05
violetyeah i will remember that for the next time i order something lol09:07
violetdo you have any trick for getting the plastic bit out of the switch09:08
joschyes, i have two pieces of wire that i bent just the right way so that i can pull the keycap straight up instead of bending it sideways and breaking the legs09:08
violetoh thats not what i mean09:08
joschoh09:09
violeti mean the piece that broke off is inside the switch09:09
joschout of the switch09:09
joschoh that was terrible :(09:09
violethahaha 09:09
violeti guess maybe it would be easier to just replace the switch09:09
joschin the end, i heated up a thin metal needle and stuck it into the broken leg a bit slanted and waited for everything to cool and harden again09:10
violetoh that is clever09:10
joschbefore that i experimented with the broken cap and some glue09:12
joschbut no glue i had really stuck to it09:12
violetabout to try and upgrade to a 2TiB drive09:17
violetfrom the same line of transcends mentioned in the thread09:17
violeti am sort of curious about encrypting it. the iMX8Q module has hardware AES right?09:18

violetneat, drive swapped and encryption turned on15:22
violetyeah like you i see a speed drop and cpu usage. 200 MiB/s read encrypted vs 280MiB/s read unencrypted. weirdly i get 250MiB/s write encrypted, and it seems to use less cpu when writing. idk why the read/write spread is like that when `cryptsetup benchmark` is much more symmetric15:22
violeti also see various errors in dmesg for caam_jr (the nxp-specific crypto acceleration module). so since that's not working it's instead using the generic armv8 aes acceleration instructions15:23
violetno idea whether it would make a difference if caam was working15:23
