sl | hello | 03:02 |
---|---|---|
sl | i have had two reforms over the years but i have never attempted to run one off of the ac adapter until just now. running purely off batteries works fine, and the ac adapter does successfully recharge the batteries in the machine when it's turned off, but when i have the ac adapter plugged in while using the machine, batteries drain as if there is no ac power coming in. | 03:04 |
sl | since i never tried on my old reform i don't know if this happened on that machine as well. | 03:04 |
sl | nothing else is weird, everything else works as expected. | 03:05 |

sigrid | https://libera.chat/news/matrix-bridge-disabled-retrospective | 20:22 |
Boostisbetter | whew, that was a lengthy read, but I guess answers the question quiet well. Thanks! Kind of a bummer that it couldn't work out. I remember when Matrix was new, this sort of interoperability was a big deal and was one of the main reasons Matrix was supposed to be something. | 20:34 |
Boostisbetter | I'm just glad bridging from XMPP is still ok. | 20:35 |
josch | sevan: i've read your blog post https://www.geeklan.co.uk/?p=3215 | 20:40 |
josch | sevan: you write "There’s a short delay of around 30 seconds before the system detects the charger is connected and switches over" -- how did you come to that conclusion? | 20:40 |
josch | there is an LED which indicates charging and that LED powers on immediately when plugging the AC adapter in | 20:40 |
sevan | josch: the icon change and notification sound in gnome. | 20:42 |
josch | maybe gnome only checks every X seconds for a change? | 20:43 |
sevan | that's a possibilty, but not when I've been cought out by it. (charger was connected and the system still went down) | 20:44 |
josch | also, if you are looking for CPU power improvement, then the better way forward is not the LS1028A but the CM4 A311D bananapi | 20:45 |
sevan | I'm not, I want more RAM :) | 20:45 |
josch | maybe minute has an idea why the system would go down even with the charger connected | 20:45 |
josch | i cannot wait to see if the LS1028A can do everything i am currently doing with the imx8mq :) | 20:46 |
sevan | :) | 20:46 |
josch | most of my workload is single-threaded so that should mean some improvements. I'm only worried about 1080p h264 video decoding as the LS1028A doesn't have the hardware decoders that the imx8mq has. | 20:47 |
sevan | do you know if the issue could be specific to gnome? (gnome has its power management things?) | 20:48 |
josch | sevan: the OS has nothing to do with enabling or disabling of battery charging | 20:51 |
josch | sevan: the LPC reports the current state to the OS but the OS cannot enable or disable charging | 20:51 |
sevan | understood | 20:51 |
josch | about the wifi: the tiny antenna that comes with the diy kit is not very good | 20:52 |
josch | i found the laird antenna to be a huge upgrade | 20:52 |
josch | with the laird the reception of my reform is as good as the one of my old thinkpad | 20:53 |
sevan | that's great to hear :) | 20:53 |
