josch | minute: what are your thoughts about a cube-reform with the size of a intel nuc? The rack-reform fits the reform2 mobo. Would the pocket reform mainboard fit for a cube-reform as a desktop replacement? | 15:51 |
minute | josch: yes, that's a possibility | 15:52 |
josch | i'm administering desktop computers for friends and family members. They need nothing more than loading websites, email and office. Today i fixed a system with an intel core i5 and 4gb ram that feels even slower than my reform (probably because of its spinning disk) and is slowly dying and needs a replacement at some point in the future. I think even the imx8mq would fulfill the requirements and hence | 15:56 |
josch | the a311d even more so. But a desktop is needed and not a laptop. :) | 15:56 |

josch | minute: you are running the ls1028a still with linux 5.19? did you try a more recent kernel release already? | 16:55 |
minute | josch: cool, i see! i think a pocket mb+a311d+small case would fit the bill, indeed | 16:58 |
josch | does the pocket reform mainboard come with a normal on/off button or is an additional board needed like for the rack reform? | 17:01 |
josch | if i had the board the rack reform uses i could already build myself a larger-than-nuc-sized-but-smaller-thank-rack-sized desktop system using the reform2 mainboard | 17:02 |
minute | there's no button... yet, but also the design is not yet set in stone | 17:03 |
josch | a 19" rack is just too large for a normal desk i think :) | 17:03 |
minute | ah, keep in mind this 19" case is only a bit more than 30cm deep | 17:03 |
josch | aha, that's not too bad | 17:04 |
josch | i always had the 19" chassis from my office in mind :) | 17:04 |
josch | ah i found a photo of the rack reform with greta working on it which gives a good idea of its sizea | 17:09 |

ec0 | @minute is the psu location final on the rack reform? I was thinking it may be better to have it on the edge of the case so the AC side could be kept away from the internal Ethernet cable and DC side in general? Is there a constraint I’m not noticing? | 23:29 |
ec0 | I’m mostly just thinking about interference from the AC wiring and potential for a damaged AC wire to contact something expensive | 23:30 |
minute | ec0: you mean the front edge? | 23:33 |
ec0 | near where the power socket is mounted to the chassis | 23:34 |
ec0 | I’m not sure I have a good mental picture of what is front and back on the rack reform now that you mention it | 23:38 |
