noamWhen I get back to NJ, I should have both new cells and the protected board yayyyy06:15
noambut also... I kinda realized I don't actually need internal batteries :/06:15
noamWhich would abeen a great thing to realize _before_ once again falling victim to consumerism :(06:16

BoostisbetterI think it is better to have the ability to move around with batteries, than to not have it and need it. If you are 100% sure you'll never move around with it, then I guess your point is right. 08:36
joschI'm close to releasing a Debian installer netboot image that allows installing on the Reform using the normal way from a USB stick09:35
joschIs anybody willing to test this?09:35
joschIn contrast to vanilla d-i, my version:09:35
josch - installs the custom kernel and uboot09:35
josch - asks which dtb to choose initially (single or dual display)09:36
josch - allows flashing uboot to emmc or sd-card09:36
josch - installs reform-tools09:36
josch - enables the reform.d.n repo09:36
joschIf you are interested in being an alpha tester for this, just ping me.09:37
joschI'll add this on reform.d.n as well.09:37
joschCredit goes to ex-parrot for having found out that d-i magically started working with the bookworm release09:37

joschminute: https://reform.debian.net/d-i/d-i.img13:42
joschjust flash it to a usb thumb drive13:42
joschto test, i used this to install Debian to a second usb thumb drive13:43
josch(to not mess with my existing installation)13:43

minutejosch: oh cool that that is also possible14:13
joschwell *somebody* should at some point try installing /boot to emmc and / to nvme :)14:28
joschpossibly also with full disk encryption on nvme as set up by the installer14:28

BoostisbetterSO it is possible to boot from USB on the Reform?15:18
Boostisbetterminute: I would also be willing to help fund getting hibernation working on the Reform. 15:36
BoostisbetterI actually think that getting hibernation working might be lower hanging fruit than suspend. 15:48

+ mtm (~mtm@c-71-228-84-213.hsd1.fl.comcast.net)16:10
BoostisbetterAlso I am noticing that when I resume from suspend that the display is coming on BEFORE the reset of sway display in the resume script. This is on the 6.4 kernel. Has anyone else noticed this, perhaps making that work around no longer necessary?17:18
Boostisbetteryeah disregard. I just tested it. The display is on but unresponsive, and then the whole system crashes after about 10 seconds. 17:21
joschBoostisbetter: yes, u-boot has usb support, so it can load boot.scr/extlinux, kernel, initrd and dtb from an ext2/3/4 partition on a usb drive18:24

Boostisbetterjosch: thanks! 19:37
Boostisbetterjosch: do you ever find yourself wanting with the Reform as your sole computer? Also does Starcraft run full speed and is playable? Steam runs but VERY slowly. 19:39

joschBoostisbetter: i find myself wanting with every computer -- doesn't that happen to everybody? cleary computers should always be faster, have a longer lasting battery, produce less heat etc :)21:58
joschBoostisbetter: starcraft is playable for many missions except those with big maps and lots of other factions21:59
joschthe game only runs on a single core21:59
joschit's probably butter smooth on the a311d21:59
joschbiggest problems of the reform for me are missing suspend/hibernate, non-redistributable non-free blobs and missing support in upstream linux22:00
joschi think i had a list in the forums somewhere22:00
- XYZ (QUIT: Ping timeout: 250 seconds) (~XYZ@89-24-50-81.nat.epc.tmcz.cz)22:04
unixpoetthankfully, most/all of those are fixable 22:49
joschunixpoet: how do you fix non-free blobs?22:57
Boostisbetterjosch: hibernation who fix a lot for me. 23:02
Boostisbetter*would 23:02
unixpoetjosch: hence 'most'23:06
joschyup, hibernation would work for me as well23:13
