joschminute: are the differences in the imx8mp.dtsi also relevant?00:17
minutejosch: no, these should be generated by patches (and some are moved into the pocket's .dts)00:23
joschright, i just saw patches-imx8mp/2ghz/imx8mp-2ghz-opp.patch00:33
joschof course the patches do not apply cleanly on the latest Debian kernel (6.3.5)00:34

joschhuh weird patches-imx8mp/2ghz/imx8mp-2ghz-opp.patch doesn't apply because it indents with spaces but even torvalds linux git uses tabs...00:51
joschokay, rebased on 6.3.4 -- now building01:03
minutejosch: ah, my mistake... 01:04
joschwill be done in around 7 hours01:06
joschenough time to get some sleep :)01:06

BoostisbetterAhh the Penkesu, I am seriously impressed by how well the Pi Zero 2 w actually holds up in terms of being a usable desktop machine. You wouldn't think it, but it really does a good job. Makes me really excited about the Pocket!14:06

jfredHmm, I was just trying to build a piece of software through Guix (since it doesn't seem to have substitutes available yet) and my Reform seems to shut down during the build. Not suddenly, like it actually starts the shutdown process and everything 15:01
jfredI wonder if it's overheating or something and the OS is triggering a shutdown? Maybe I need new thermal paste or something 15:02

joschminute: https://mister-muffin.de/reform/pocket/15:40
joschminute: though since this is 6.3 it might not do much15:40
joschbut since i can build 6.3 it will be much easier to build 6.4 once it's ready15:40
joschif you like, feel free to try it on the pocket or the reform15:40
joschtrying it on the big reform would already be useful i think -- then we know whether the patches broke anything or not15:45
minutejosch: cool, will try it on monday!15:50
minutejfred: hmm, it sounds like it could be critical temp. indeed15:50
minutejfred: under load on the standard system image, what's the temp?15:50
jfredNot home at the moment but I can check when I get back. Is there a log line I could look for that would indicate a temp shutdown?15:51

eerythere may be some other daemon triggering a shutdown, but if it's shutting down at the configured "critical" temperature (90C), something is wrong with your cooling solution (or you're somewhere with a really high ambient temp)16:17
eeryI've had all cores running compile jobs for 30+ hours straight and I've never seen the temp go above 70C16:18
- mjw (QUIT: Ping timeout: 268 seconds) (~mjw@gnu.wildebeest.org)16:19
joschi've just had my reform compile linux on all four cores for 14 hours while standing on a couch (so no good heat dissipation towards the bottom) and also never got above 70°C16:20
eeryThe chassis works as a pretty good heatsink, so the whole thing gets pretty warm, but I think that's about where thermal equillibrium is at max load16:24
eeryif that's the case it should be obvious pretty fast if you start a build16:24
eeryer, if the heatsink is loose, it would explain the temps spiking to critical16:25

* bkeys1 -> bkeys16:43
jfredIt did take a while before that shutdown happened last night but it seems to be topping out just over 60°C at the moment16:45
eeryThat's a pretty normal temperature, hmmm16:52
+ mjw (~mjw@gnu.wildebeest.org)16:59
jfredOh wait, now it's up to 80°C17:04
jfredHasn't shut down yet but I'm guessing it is a thermal issue after all17:04
jfredI think I remember hearing that people have put thermal pads between the heatsink and the inside edge of the case for better conductivity?17:06
joschyour problem rather sounds like a conductivity problem between the die and the heatsink17:07
jfredHm, fair. I suppose if it were a problem between the heatsink and the body I'd feel the heatsink getting a lot hotter than it is now17:11
jfredTime for new thermal paste I guess17:11
minutejfred: yep, sounds like 17:12
joschif it were a problem between the heatsink and the body then those people without any thermal pads between heatsink and case would have problems :)17:12
jfredAlso fair, haha17:12
