minutechartreuse: yes, really impressive thermals00:38
minutethe module is pretty affordable and has lots of cpu power—if 4GB ram is sufficient00:41
minutei will need to check mipi dsi though, so far i've only used it on hdmi00:41
minutei do find it more interesting than the rpi itself00:41

joschwell, that's not really a downside as the imx8mq and imx8mp have the same problem :(14:48
eeryimx8mq just requires the synopsys memory trainer blob and the optional video bridge one, looks like that one has a separate "security coprocessor" and needs blobs to turn on the SoC, train the memory, enable interrupts, and handle power management stuff14:56
joschtrue, but even they do different things, both are non-free blobs14:57
joschand as far as Debian is concerned, one is not worse than the other -- both blobs go into non-free-firmware14:59
eeryright - I understand that as far as packaging and FSF go they're both unacceptable, I just find the synopsis blobs less intrusive and so "better", as far as my personal taste goes15:00
eeryI'd like no blobs, but I don't think fitting a P9 processor in a laptop will work well haha15:02

jfredI worry about the USB-C to barrel adapters because my Reform was plugged into one when it went poof. Don't know if the adapter was to blame though or if there might have been something more fundamental wrong with my early model Reform19:15
jfredre: blobs, I should take a look again at what you'd need to get Reform support in Guix. Couldn't be upstreamed because of the blobs of course but it could go into nonguix I bet19:17
Booster[m]jfred: I hear ya. I think I would weary of them as well if my Reform went poof on it.19:26

jfredJust heard back from the repair shop, they were able to get my Reform booting again (said it was the Q17 MOSFET that had failed) but it won't charge the batteries so they're calling it a partial repair and charged me less than the full price. I'll take a look at it when I get back, if it turns out one of the cells is just dead or something I'll offer to pay the rest, otherwise my quest continues21:37
Boostisbetterjfred: hope you get it back soon. Is this a local repair shop or will it be getting mailed to you?21:52
BoostisbetterDo you know if this is something you did that caused this, or was this just a fluke?21:52
jfredIt was a mail-in, and as for whether it was something I did or not I do not know21:54
jfredI do know I won't be using that particular combination of USB-C barrel adapter and USB-C power supply with my Reform in the future though, if only as a precaution 21:55

Boostisbetterahh ok. Well I hope that you get it back and that you can start using it again. 22:08
