chartreuseI think overall the concept of the top mount is a bit flawed, mostly because to eliminate all the play but not bind the mouse you need way too much precision without using a spring or such. I might give a few different tries though to slightly different designs. Probably why even period laptops with trackballs still have tthat vertical play in the ball00:33
chartreuseI did get a fairly decent setup that reduces it a bit more, though I did end up shimming it with some super glued cardstock on the screw mounts. Part of the precision issue is the two screw mounting, even with a taller flange it still wants to have kinda uneven pressure front and back00:34

minutejosch: what do you need exactly?17:33
joschminute: oh if you have a minute for me, i'd rather be interested in my question above about the position of the batteries in the new lpc firmware -- whether that was changed at any point or not :D17:36
- GNUmoon2 (QUIT: Ping timeout: 255 seconds) (~GNUmoon@gateway/tor-sasl/gnumoon)17:36
joschi'm just looking for some pre-crimped cables because i'm ordering something for the reform on mouser or digikey and there is a minimum value (50 eur) where the 20 EUR shipment are dropped and i wanted to see whether i can fill my basket a bit more to reach that with part that i also need to fiddle more with my reform17:37
joschand crimping these jst connectors back then wasn't really a fun experience XD17:37
joschi now found some adafruit jst ph4 cables17:37
joschand i also still have to investigate my broken trackball...17:38
minutejosch: tbh i would need to check the changelog myself about the batteries. there was a complaint that the batteries don't reflect the position in the handbook. i don't recall atm if that was adressed by a MR17:39
+ GNUmoon2 (~GNUmoon@gateway/tor-sasl/gnumoon)17:39
minutejosch: i will gladly assist with the trackball. 17:39
joschminute: do you have any tips for what i could try?17:39
joschin the past, blowing onto the sensor solved it17:40
joschi'll try to re-seat the cable tomorrow17:40
joschbut i didn't touch the cable to the sensor so i guess it's weird that it suddenly stopped working...17:40
joschthe buttons work just fine -- just the trackball doesn't17:40
josch(and as another note, as i have pre-ordered it i'm also super excited about the recent progress with the LS1028A -- i'm super hyped for that module!)17:42
minutejosch: we can send you a new sensor in a letter to try17:43
minutethanks @ ls1028a!! i really hope these will ~just work~. they should arrive tomorrow17:43
minute(3x with 8GB)17:43
joschminute: thanks! i'll investigate more tomorrow. i doubt thet sensor is broken (again).... nothing happened to it this time round17:46
minutejosch: did we already replace "just" the sensor before?17:47
minutereseating the cable could also help yep17:47
joschnope, i bought a full assembly of trackpad 2.0 with the rpi chip including a new sensor17:47
joschi'll report my progress on this tomorrow :)17:49
minuteok, cool17:52
BoostisbetterSo if my reform keeps looping the login in ttl at boot is there something I can do get beyond that? 18:12

Boostisbetterminute: I updated. When the system boots it asks for my username and password. After entering them the prompt for username and password comes again. I never use the MNT welcome script running and get to a prompt to start sway. 19:46
Boostisbetterjosch: no I don't used greetd, but I think installed it once and then didn't maybe remove it. 19:47
BoostisbetterI also have to force a ttl screen as it just stays at the booting text19:47
BoostisbetterI think I push f11 for that 19:48

Boostisbetterminute: awesome about the pocket reform launch. 20:31
minuteBoostisbetter: ah. we have an u-boot that will show a MNT logo and the ability to interact before the linux text scrolls by20:32
minutebut i'm thinking about what's the most effective way to help in your situation. i think booting into single user mode or overriding systemd init=/bin/bash probably20:32
minuteBoostisbetter: is the ssd encrypted?20:32
BoostisbetterNope it is not20:33
minuteok that makes it easier20:46
minuteBoostisbetter: can you email me the boot.scr on that sd card? i can edit it for you so that it will boot into a root shell without login20:52

minutejosch: could Boostisbetter flash the rescue system onto a new sd card, or would this auto-boot the borked setup on nvme?20:54

joschBoostisbetter: when you say that you boot from sd, does that mean that your /boot is on sd-card or do you only have u-boot on your sd-card?21:27
joschif you also have /boot on your sd-card then there are some things you cannot do when booting a rescue image from sd-card as suggested by minute (all the things that require modifying your old /boot)21:28
joschbut since you are having login troubles and those happen long after your init system has loaded, it's likely that you don't need to modify your /boot21:28
joschso i think booting a rescue system, mounting your rootfs to /mnt and then chrooting into it to repair it would be the easiest option21:28
joschminute: and to your question: u-boot inspects the first partition of the sd-card before it looks into emmc. So inserting a sd-card with a rescue system will boot the rescue system and not the system that might boot from emmc.21:32
minutejosch: great, thanks21:50
