josch*first* drop test? :D10:44
joschminute: interested how often my baby managed to throw down my reform onto our wooden floor from the couch or the table? ;)10:44
minutejosch: very interested!10:44
joschlet me measure the heights...10:45
joschtwice 42 cm (couch) and once 56 cm (table)10:46
joschi do not know how it landed when it fell from the couch twice but when it fell from the table at landed corner first and i now have a dent in my floor10:46
josch(hartholz parkett)10:47
c-keen[m]ouch10:50
joschyou see i have very practical reasons to want a laptop made from milled aluminium instead of the usual cheap china plastic cases :D10:52
c-keen[m]I hope the pcb inside didn't take too much of that energy10:53
joschthe only thing my baby managed to break on my reform so far was the trackball buttons10:54
joschturns out that baby fingers are tiny enough to get below them and that the stems are weaker than the force a baby can pull with :)10:54
vkoskiv_baby hand grip is no joke, I hear10:54
joschso minute got some extra bucks for replacement keys from me a few weeks ago :)10:54
joschthere is the misterious white liquid that killed my trackball... no idea where that came from... could've been baby but no clue...10:55
minutewow11:01
minutejosch: btw did you get the new trackball?11:02
joschyes! there were some problems with ups so i got it a day later after two trips to their warehouse but it's installed and working without issues, thank you!11:10
joschi've never used the white switches -- it's an interesting tactile feedback11:11

joschit's "man 5 sway" if you want a list of all the commands you can send with swaymsg11:27
andreas-eTricky! I tried "man sway" without the 5 just before.11:29

joschminute: i think this is where it's tracked: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/mutter/-/merge_requests/8815:23
minutejosch: ohh > Applied in 43.3-1, which I uploaded to experimental yesterday. I'll re-upload to unstable now.15:29
flowyi've had the standalone kbd w/ white switches swapped into my reform for roughly half a year now. my general opinion is that kailh white switches require a bit too much actuation force. they actually make my fingers a bit sore, especially the tips, if i'm typing a lot. the springs require a fair bit of muscle, similar to old IBM keyboards.15:37
flowyso yeah, i'm curious about the red pros, which are supposedly quite light.15:39
flowybut @minute if you find an opportunity to source lighter actuation clicky switches, might be fun15:40
flowythe choc v2 have some interesting options but i see that they are probably not mechanically compatible with the reform's design15:40
flowythis is nothing other than personal anecdata :)15:41
flowyi enjoyed the experience of swapping the keyboard pcbs and learned about desoldering things in the process15:41
flowybut yeah you can actually confirm through the specs that the choc whites have unusually heavy actuation force compared to most clicky switches15:43
flowymy dream keyboard adjustments to what i have would be: 25-40% less actuation force, traditional stagger, and firmly braced to reduce flex15:44
flowyend of rant15:45

joschyesterday i tried falling asleep while listening to something on my reform. So the room was perfectly quiet and since i wanted to sleep i lowered the volume to a minimum. I noticed that as soon as I started playing something, a very quiet (but audible if the room is silent and you want to sleep) brrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound was constantly rattling in the background. The noise is not produced when nothing is 16:48
joschplaying but it is produced after pausing the playback. It vanishes after unplugging and replugging the headphones. It resumes after pressing the play button again. Anybody else noticed this?16:48
sigridmaybe it's because wm8960's speakers output is never closed off16:50
sigridjust guessing. afair on Linux reform's jack sensing isn't implemented16:52
sigridwhich reminds me, maybe someone feels like they have absolutely nothing else to do and they want to test this dts patch: http://okturing.com/src/15060/body16:54
sigridoh wait nvm, that one is wrong16:56
sigridthis one: http://okturing.com/src/15062/body16:59
joschi have stuff to do but my plan was to test another dts patch so i can throw that right in as well :D17:01
joschsigrid: what difference am i supposed to see with that patch?17:01
sigridsound playing out of headphones or speaker automatically17:02
joschcool! i'll try it out :)17:03
sigridbut then again idk whether alsa/pipewire gets in the way or not, I can't test this patch :/17:03
sigridbut this should configure wm8960 same way I did in 9front17:04
joschsigrid: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/6/diffs17:10
joschi'll install the kernel built by the CI pipeline tonight17:10
minuteexciting!17:18
minutejosch: the brrr could be interference from the charger, if you have power supply connected17:18
joschoh lets check!17:20
joschand i cannot reproduce it anymore... :/17:25

joschit's really funny to compare the new keycaps with the old ones because my old ones are shiny and polished from too much use while the new ones are still a bit matt and not nearly as shiny and reflective XD18:30

ex-parrotminute: the machine fell from about chest height on to a wooden floor in the bag19:44
ex-parrotcompletely fine except for a tiny tiny ding on one corner of the chassis and some cracking in the plastic19:44
ex-parrotI'll take some photos19:44
ex-parrotit tumbled and hit on a bottom corner I think19:45
ex-parrotif you can't sell me a replacement bottom panel I'll make one :)19:45

jfredYou know, even though the Pocket Reform isn't a tablet, I bet this tiling mode for GNOME would be pretty nice on it: https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2020/04/gnome-mobile-convergence-concept21:15
Boostisbetterit would be awesome it the pocket screen was a touchscreen.21:27
sigridi'd rather it to have a pen :P21:28
vkoskiv_ex-parrot: Mine has a mark similar to that in one corner in the aluminium. I don't recall dropping mine though :D21:38

vkoskiv_I am worried about the longevity of the acrylic back plate. Mine hasn't cracked yet, though.21:40
vkoskiv_But I'd imagine it's a fairly easy part to replace down the line if need be. Milled acrylic sheet.21:41
ex-parrotyeah21:41
ex-parrotmy friend can mill me one if needed21:41
vkoskiv_PSA: Don't clean acrylic with IPA. I did that to my anytone radio and it just spontaneously cracks acrylic.21:41
vkoskiv_I still haven't adhered my serial # sticker, I'm worried I'll place it crooked and I'll never un-see it :D21:42
vkoskiv_I want to place it before I fly with the thing, that way it has the CE mark and all that21:42
