joschokay, so my hdmi does work with a fresh sd-card image09:42
joschso something is broken in my installation09:42
joschthough somehow even though the monitor can do 1920x1200 as well as 2560x1440, the reform has 1920x1080 as its maximum resolution :(09:42
+ dmorn (~dmorn@46.234.244.221)09:57
dmornGoodmorning people ;) Can I post here some IRC related questions? How are you handling message history? Today I checked the logs, but ideally I would like to join the channel in the state I left it. Are you all running your own ircd or similar?10:04
dmornIdeally I would also like to receive notifications when something happens...10:05
joschdmorn: i'm running my irc client on a server i own 24/7 and log in to that server via ssh10:12
minutedmorn: i use weechat relay on my server but it's a bit more involved to set up. an easy commercial solution is irccloud10:13

einkoderdmorn: look into matrix, they have bridges to irc, and mobile apps10:44
- yankcrime (QUIT: Read error: Connection reset by peer) (~nick@agrajag.dischord.org)10:49
+ yankcrime (~nick@agrajag.dischord.org)10:50
joschhonestly, it can be a bit annoying to have people who join an irc channel via a matrix bridge10:52
joschnot because the matrix users are doing anything wrong but because the matrix bridge does funny things with their messages10:52
joschthere is some bug in reform-display config10:56
joschi downloaded a fresh sd-card images from the ci pipeline and running reform-display-config dual does not enable hdmi10:57
joschi can build my own system image with hdmi enabled though10:57
joschbut i cannot switch from the default (single) to dual10:57
joschminute: should the "model" in imx8mq-mnt-reform2-hdmi.dts not be "MNT Reform 2 HDMI"?11:16
+ MajorBiscuit (~MajorBisc@145.94.167.250)11:28
joschminute: i figured out why my hdmi didn't work. Reason is, that I'm using u-boot from git which includes a change that sets $fdtfile in the u-boot env. This is necessary so that a boot medium that is able to boot on a variety of platforms (like the Debian installer) gets told by u-boot which dtb it has to use to run.11:53
joschBut this setting also overwrites the dtb selection made by flash-kernel, so running reform-display-config is without effect.11:53
joschAs a solution I implemented an addition to the boot.scr which will use the dtb produced by flash-kernel if it exists and fall back to the default value set by $fdtfile otherwise: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-tools/-/merge_requests/2811:54

* wielaard -> mjw11:56
minutejosch: adjusting the model seems like a good idea12:23
joschminute: great, that would've helped me track down this bug much quicker12:23
minutejosch: thanks for tracking it down!12:23
joschboth dtbs claiming they are "MNT Reform 2" doesn't help :)12:23
joschminute: well, it's nothing that effects anybody but me because you'd need to have u-boot from git installed for the bug to show XD12:24
minuteok cool12:26
joschi already tried the hdmi projector and it works (resolution is funky but i'll figure that out)12:28
joschso maybe next week we'll have the first university lecture presented on a reform2 )12:28
josch:)12:28
minutegreat!12:30
minuteyou can try giving your own modeline in sway for hdmi12:30
minuteon modern sway, that's possible on outputs12:30
minutemaybe EDID doesn't work for some reason12:31
joschi'm also wondering about my other hdmi monitor in my office which does go up to 2560x1440 with my desktop but the reform only shows 1920x1080 and lower resolutions12:32
minutesame problem perhaps12:35
minutefor me, 4K works on a LG monitor12:35
- yankcrime (QUIT: Ping timeout: 252 seconds) (~nick@agrajag.dischord.org)12:53
+ yankcrime (~nick@agrajag.dischord.org)12:53
joschhrm... I added a "output HDMI-A-1 modeline ..." into my sway config and now the 2560x1440 resolution does show in swaymsg -t get_outputs but the output is also marked as "inactive"12:59

joschi can confirm that 4k works in principle -- it does show up for the projector in my classroom (funnily, that setting never showed up in xrandr on my old intel laptop)13:04

joschdmorn: i tried using a modeline in my sway config with the other hdmi monitor but that didn't fix the issue17:45
joschreading the reform motherboard repair logs... reading 2022-11-03 sounds like waaaaaay longer than 4 hours just by looking at the list of things that were done!17:46

Boostisbetterminute: Thanks for the repair write up on the forums. Was interesting to read about. I do wonder, did you think you would be dealing with board level mainboard repairs when you first set out to create the Reform as much as you have?21:45

minutebtw if you like point+click adventures and the cyberpunk genre, there's Technobabylon, and in runs perfectly on reform when you point the open source engine "adventure game studio" to it (ags)22:48
