dmornHello :D Is there anyone in here that has problems with spearkers not emitting any output?16:31
dmornI just discovered alsamixer's TUI (thanks sl), its dope16:33
minutebkeys: i'm working on your laptop repair now16:50
minutedmorn: does it work for you now?16:51
minutebkeys: the problem is that regulator U13 does not work. it supplies 1.2V for the eDP converter and the USB hub. i would have expected an electronic repairs company to find this problem17:16
minuteit outputs only 0.025V17:16
minuteLPCs 1V2_PWR_EN line is low17:30
minuteso it doesn't enable U13 _or_ U13 pulls the line low very hard17:31
vkoskivI think even I could measure the regulators with a random volt meter and figure that one out. Weird that a repair shop missed that :S17:31
vkoskivHow does one damage a regulator? Is that something that can just happen or was it an oopsy17:32
minuteno idea! maybe it was shorted for a while17:35
minutebkeys: U13 is the culprit. i removed the 0R on its enable and it is now high on the LPC side. 17:35
minutebkeys: replacing U13 fixed the display (and i guess USB)17:52
minutejosch: the rescue system build from oct 7 behaves strangely. i just flashed it to an SD card. it waits for a long time for /dev/mmcblk1p1 and then times out. it also asks for "Please enter system locale name or number" and then hangs after a few more tasks (with blinking cursor)18:29
minutejosch: it somehow doesn't get to a login console.18:30
minuteconsole login.18:30
+ vagrantc (~vagrant@2600:3c01:e000:21:7:77:0:20)18:35
minutejosch: yeah, waited 5+ minutes and there's no login. weird18:36
minutedmorn: what's the output of `sudo dmesg | grep wm8960` ?18:52
minutejosch: there's the same problem with the full image, so something is broken with the system setup. it also says "Welcome to your new installation of Debian GNU/Linux bookworm/sid!" and "Please configure your system!"19:07
+ qwer (~qwer@37.48.48.156)19:17
+ ajr (~ajr@user/ajr)19:23
minutejosch: interestingly it works after a reset19:25
minutebkeys: i have also tested both pcie slots, ethernet, audio, battery charging and discharging. looks all good19:34

joschminute: the message "Welcome to your new installation of Debian GNU/Linux bookworm/sid!" comes from systemd firstboot which was enabled in systemd 251.5-1 which got uploaded October 2nd22:00
joschminute: to fix this, we need to create an empty /etc/machine-id which I'm going to fix with the next mmdebstrap upload22:01
joschbut I cannot do an upload until the autopkgtest passes and that is stalled on procps transitioning22:01
joschthe procps maintainer closed the bug before it was closed so i thought the problem was taken care of and I could fix it soon22:02
joschthat's why i didn't implement a workaround once I got to know about the problem -- i thought i could implement the proper fix quickly22:02
joschthe procps transitioning should've happened yesterday22:02
joschbut now i learned that there was a problem with the Debian transitioning mechanism due to the recent glibc upload22:03
joschand now it will probably be fixed tonight or tomorrow22:03
joschonce it's fixed i'm going to upload the next mmdebstrap version22:03
joschand then i'll ping you to re-create the image22:03
joschhere is my mail to d-devel from October 9 which is when I learned about the problem you are seeing: https://lists.debian.org/166530128900.454088.13022831233949056496@localhost22:04
joschin hindsight, i should've pushed the simple workaround to reform-system-image much sooner but all along the way I thought "oh but i can fix this in three days so lets wait until then" :(22:05
josch(which is the same state i'm in today...)22:05
minutejosch: thanks for the explanations!22:44
