vkoskivI've read the nice documentation josch made about reform-boot-config but I'm afraid I still don't understand how to get what I want :D22:09
vkoskivSince I got this thing, I've booted from the sd card, and my encrypted luks thing is on an nvme22:10
vkoskivI'd prefer to set it up like the guide on the gitlab says at the end. I want to boot with the emmc, and then have the encrypted rootfs from nvme22:10
vkoskivBut running 'sudo reform-boot-config --emmc /dev/reformvg/root' while booted from SD seems to just do nothing22:11
vkoskivIt just prints out the usual startup print and then '/dev/reformvg/root is still in use'22:12
vkoskivI'm not sure what I'm supposed to do about that? I could try unmounting /boot, yanking SD, mounting /boot from the emmc and running it again, but I just get the same message.22:12
vkoskivAnd nothing happens. If I pull the SD card and boot, it just boots to the rescue emmc thing, which is not what I want.22:13
vkoskivI've gone over this whole process multiple times, but I just think I still don't get it :D22:13
joschit seems the problem is that when you run "reform-boot-config --emmc /dev/reformvg/root" you still have /dev/reformvg/root mounted somewhere?22:14
vkoskivI almost went to manually edit /etc/fstab, but I don't want to mess up the currently working system. I *think* I tried that when my system was more fresh and easily wipe-able, but I couldn't get it working then either22:14
vkoskivjosch: Sure, yeah, I'm booted to my system.22:14
vkoskivThat's what it said in the guide. Boot with SD in there and then run that cmd22:14
joschah you booted into your encrypted nvme system with /boot on your SD-Card and now you want to switch to /boot on emmc?22:14
vkoskivI think unmounting the live root volume while running from it is a no-no? :D22:15
vkoskivYeah22:15
joschsorry, baby22:15
vkoskivThat's what I want, exactly.22:15
vkoskivI only use the SD card for /boot, rest comes from luks on nvme22:15
vkoskivI want to boot without any card plugged in there.22:15
vkoskivIt's nice to have that later if I want, but I'm daily-driving this thing and I find that the sd card may pop out while in my bag22:15
vkoskivjosch: no worry, baby comes first!22:17
joschvkoskiv: why didn't you configure emmc as your boot device for your encrypted nvme while your system was still on sd-card?22:20
joschthat's what the guide says22:21
joschreform-setup-encrypted-nvme asks you where you want your /boot, whether on sd or emmc22:21
vkoskivI think I used the reform-setup-encrypted-nvme script and followed the instructions there22:21
vkoskivI might have said SD there22:21
joscheven though you wanted the other? ;)22:21
vkoskivI'm too scared to run that script again, I don't want to wipe my nvme22:21
vkoskivI think at that moment I wanted SD22:21
joschokay22:21
vkoskivAssuming I could switch to emmc later22:21
joschtry the following:22:21
joschflash a fresh sysimage-v3 onto your sd-card and boot into that system22:23
joschfrom that system, run reform-boot-config --emmc /dev/reformvg/root22:23
josch(of course after you have done luksOpen to make /dev/reformvg/root available)22:23
vkoskivOkay, back in a bit22:24
vkoskivSurprised googling just 'sysimage v3' brings me the right result up at the top22:27
joschwhat result is that?22:27
vkoskivThe sysimage v3 forum post22:28
vkoskivjosch: woo! That worked. I'm now booted without an SD card in, from my encrypted nvme23:01
joschvkoskiv: nice :)23:02
vkoskivThe sysimage v3 forum post23:03
vkoskivWhoops.23:04
vkoskivI guess I'm now saving the however many few mA the SD card was drawing when it was idle while being plugged in :D23:04
