flowyran apt upgrade for the first time in months. now trying chromium w/ --ozone-platform=wayland. mixed results, but by far a net win for my usage. general responsiveness, scrolling, video rendering, all noticeably faster. webgl fps is lower, but i don't really care about that personally14:10
flowypretty awesome14:11
flowyi'm using the flatpak, my .desktop launcher has:14:20
flowyExec=/usr/bin/flatpak run --command=/app/bin/chromium org.chromium.Chromium --high-dpi-support=1 --enable-zero-copy --enable-features=WebUIDarkMode --ozone-platform-hint=auto --force-dark-mode %U14:20
flowynice that we keep getting performance gains over time14:21
+ Smith42 (~Smith42__@cpc138114-hatf10-2-0-cust404.9-3.cable.virginm.net)14:33
minuteflowy: you should be able to use chromium from apt now14:38
minuteflowy: with ozone platform hint14:38
flowyyeah. it's cool that there's proper maintainership happening again. i just kind of got used to flatpak. chromium is so complex (which is why it developed maintainership problems in the first place), i take some comfort using it in a container/flatpak14:59
flowyit doesn't seem like there are performance implications, besides a tiny bit of extra memory usage. but for larger apps, the flatpak overhead is proportionally smaller.15:00
flowybut whatever i just got used to it15:00
- Smith42 (QUIT: Ping timeout: 244 seconds) (~Smith42__@cpc138114-hatf10-2-0-cust404.9-3.cable.virginm.net)15:01
flowybut in regards to security, i like that i can take away home directory access from chromium, so not all 0days would get access. they'd also need to break the container15:03
flowyoh another benefit to using flatpak on the reform specifically is that i tend to leave apt upgrades alone for months. i like having a stable system, and i don't always have time to fix things.15:05
flowywith flatpak i can upgrade chromium in isolation to the debian system above15:06
Boostisbettergood points. I like Appimages for the same reasons.15:08
bkeysminute: So I got word from the PSI-repair people, they were unable to get my display back up going again15:34
+ Smith42 (~Smith42__@cpc138114-hatf10-2-0-cust404.9-3.cable.virginm.net)15:48
minutebkeys: ugh15:52
bkeysThey are giving me the cost of the repair at least15:52
Boostisbetteroh wow, what happened to your display?15:54
bkeysI don't know, I fried something on my Reform (display worked) it just damaged some charging circuitry, they repaired it and when I got it back the display wasn't working15:55
bkeysI sent it back, the display still doesn't work; but it otherwise boots up to a linux install just fine according to the serial output15:55

bkeysI will have to test when I get it back16:08

BoostisbetterI wonder if it is the mainboard or the actual display itself that is the culprit. 16:49
BoostisbetterHow long have you had your Reform bkeys?16:49
sigridminute: lpc works fine with spi clocked at 5Mhz17:07
sigridnot that it helps with anything, but 400kHz limit isn't really required17:08

bkeysBoostisbetter: In my hands? A few weeks17:13
Boostisbetterahh, ok well that is a bummer. Hope you are able to get it all sorted out.17:27
bkeysI hope so as well17:27
bkeysAt least I learned this morning that work wants me to travel some so I get to ride a passenger train for almost 12 hours, I really miss riding on trains17:33
bkeysIt's been since pre-COVID and I don't live in Minneapolis anymore, only freight trains where I live17:33
BoostisbetterSo you live in Minnesota? 17:44
- MajorBiscuit (QUIT: Ping timeout: 265 seconds) (~MajorBisc@145.94.167.213)17:44
BoostisbetterMy folks are from Wisconsin. I've never lived there though. 17:44
vkoskivI really like how smooth chromium feels on reform, but I just can't use it because of the google association17:53
vkoskivAnd arm64 build of ungoogled-chromium would be delightful, but I understand that it's a pretty large effort to put together something like that.17:55
kfxvivaldi is available, and it uses the chrome engine18:11
vkoskivI'll check that out, thanks.18:11

smjminute is it possible to exchange keycaps for a newly received order?22:10
smjI don't think there were so many options at the time of ordering :)22:11
minutesmj: what do you mean, you ordered a keyboard which hasn't shipped and you want different keycaps than originally ordered?22:12
smjno, I just got my order but noticed that other key caps are now available.  Is it possible to order just the keycaps if they cannot be exchanged?22:18
minutesmj: which ones do you have and which ones are you interested in?22:18
smjI have US, but would like JP22:20
smjI don't mind to order them additionally.22:20
minuteah yeah, i think almost all caps are different, so we would need to engrave a new keyboard with them and take the caps off22:24
