minutevkoskiv: how do you mean? it's not in u-boot, it's in 9front00:52
vkoskivminute: Merged !27, other PRs still pending conceptual approval00:52
vkoskivminute: True, forgot about that :D00:52
minutevkoskiv: yeah, i will get to them tomorrow!00:52
vkoskivu-boot lives somewhere on emmc?00:52
minutethanks for the merge00:52

minutevkoskiv: u-boot is part of the system image00:52
minutevkoskiv: it is by default on the sd card, but there's also a rescue image with another copy on emmc00:53
vkoskivRight, yeah.00:53
minuteit lives at a specific offset on the sd/emmc, at 33kB. see also https://mntre.com/reform2/handbook/advanced.html#system-boot00:55
vkoskivI still haven't adhered the serial # sticker on my unit.01:01
vkoskivI'm paranoid I'll stick it on crooked and I can never unsee it :D01:01
kfxI haven't put mine on because I'm a loner, dottie.  a rebel.  01:19
vkoskivanonymous reform. No identifying marks!01:23
sigridI was confused about what that sticker was and where to put it01:24
sigridso I never did01:24
vkoskivI know from pictures that it goes on the bottom cover, not sure if it sticks on the inside or outside surface though.01:25
vkoskivAnd as far as I know there's no strict "official" spot for it, other than that one corner region.01:25
vkoskivBefore I stick mine on, I want to wash the cover with detergent to remove any oil on the surface for good adhesion.01:26
vkoskivPro tip: Never use isopropanol to clean acrylic.01:26
vkoskivI learned that the hard way, luckily way before I even heard of the Reform01:26
vkoskivIt causes acrylic to spontaneously crack.01:26
minutethat is true.01:28

eerywell, gonna be flying tomorrow, time to see if airport security thinks my Reform is a bomb again lol12:23

eeryI'm almost tempted to just leave the lithium cells here and buy new ones so I don't deal with the hassle of "scary metal box full of blue shells"12:25
minuteeery: was it a problem before?12:35
C-Keenis the lpc fw repo from nanocodebug still the right place to get the LPC fw with the spi communication changes?12:35
minuteC-Keen: i believe i have merged it into the main repo12:36
eeryminute: minor one, there have been no dramatic scenes yet but I did get stopped and it was singled out and run through a bunch of machines in the back lol12:38
eeryA little more concerned this time since the security here is usually more antsy12:39

minuteis anyone here using Nix?12:46
eeryas in the OS or just the package manager?12:47
minuteboth, kinda12:49
minutei got an email from someone involved with summer of nix and nlnet and who wants to package software/firmware for the ls1028a and kintex modules that nlnet funds/funded12:50
minutebut i wonder if the current imx8m stuff is even packaged by nix12:50
minutei am not sure how nix works tbh12:50
eeryI've only used it on x86 hardware as a package manager, but it works well enough like that, would probably work fine on reform's debian image12:51
eeryno idea how it handles ARM/u-boot stuff for bare metal installs tho12:51

jfredminute: I was using NixOS on my Reform prior to it breaking. Still need to get the Reform sent back to you folks so I don’t have it handy to refer to, but I may be able to answer questions about Nix (or Guix which is architecturally similar)16:51
jfredOne of the biggest differences between Nix/Guix and a typical distro is a fairly fundamental shift in the way you think about packages. In e.g. Debian, the built artifacts you get from the repos *are* the packages, and rebuilding those packages might be more or less difficult depending on how the packager built them17:01
jfredIn Nix, you have a git repo that contains build instructions for every package including dependencies, and those instructions in a sense *are* the packages; you can fetch pre-built binaries from cache servers as substitutes, but fundamentally that's just to save time vs. building locally. If you want, you can 'guix build <package>' (don't know the nix equivalent offhand but I'm sure there is one) and you should get an identical result17:04
jfredThere's a Nix repo for the Reform containing some Reform-specific stuff, e.g. this grabs the Reform kernel patches and applies them to the kernel when building: https://github.com/nix-community/hardware-mnt-reform/blob/master/kernel/default.nix17:06
minutejfred: cool, thanks17:09
minutejfred: could i perhaps loop you in on an email thread about this?17:09
jfredSure, although I'll admit my Nix-specific experience is somewhat surface-level. I've written packages for Guix which is similar, so I know the concepts at a high level, but the Nix language itself I haven't quite gotten the hang of. That might not matter in this case though17:12
